Telltale Logic
In this thread I wanted to discuss the thinking of Telltale Developers and their games. I'm not here to say some bad sh*t about Telltale or their developers, but I can't understand some of their decisions they made in the recent past and are planning to make in the future. I've done quite some research about the reviews, sales and peoples thoughts of the games they made. So here are the things I wanted to point out.
Why is Telltale developing another Minecraft Season when the sales were so low? Why are they not focusing on developing another Season of a game that was selling well? For example The Wolf Among Us or Tales From the Borderlands ? These two were very well sold and recieved very good reviews. From developers perspective, it does not make much sense, Yeah I get it, I know there are many fans of Minecraft that want another season, but Its more important to focus on bigger games that many people are waiting for and want to buy another season.
This brings me to GOTG....
I was kinda suprised by the extremely low sales and I somehow expected they would cancel the game completely
The game is recieving good reviews but the sales are going terribly ( They only sold 40 000 copies so far on PC), I liked GOTG and they did a nice job developing it so far, but why were'nt they putting so much effort to TWD ANF instead of GOTG ? This gets me to my last point...
The Walking Dead a New Frontier... I was so hyped for this game when they announced it, yet I was disappointed when it was released.
This series were definitely the best Telltale developed and most people loved them, including me, but ANF was complete failure. The whole season was SOOO rushed, so many developing mistakes, so short episodes. Telltale keeps filling us with stuff like WE MAKE THE EPISODES AS LONG AS WE THINK IS NEEDED TO MAKE THE STORY GOOD, this is total lie and Telltale knows it. The whole ANF was less than 7 hours long, you could probably run through in less than 6 hours if you'd try. Pretty short compared to S1 or S2, which were around 10 hours long.
The story was poor, characters were poorly written, you ruined Clementine, story full of crushes and love stories that most people hated, brought us some baseball player and his family no one cared about, and turns out the 20+ hours I spent playing S1 and S2 were pretty much useless because my choices did not really matter. Wow. Cool story bro.
If there is any TWD S4, then I expect you bring us 10+ hours of gameplay as Clem, good story and no more love stories. I also hope the ANF was just a joke.
Honestly I wanna see the sales of S4 after ANF that pretty much made a lot of players never play TWD again.
All of this was partially caused by GOTG because you were developing TWD and GOTG at the same time, but you've put more effort to GOTG. TWD was just completely forgotten to you. You were also lazy to make this game, even though it was your best selling game.
Honestly, I hope the sales go well for you, but at the same time I hope they go really bad for you so you realise that you made a mistake. But ANF pretty much showed you that already, so did the community.
Don't take this as a hate, I love the games you made in the past, but the new ones just suck. SRY
BTW the sales on PC :
GOTG : 40 000 copies on PC
GOT : 622 000
TWAU : 1 037 000
TWD S1 : 2 230 000
TWD S2 : 1 236 000
TWD ANF : 219 00 LOL

You know what is a telltale logic? Kenny getting a new model for episode 4 but his episode 1 model stays the same. Same with Jane, I guess it is true that people change a lot over night
Yeah well
But at least his episode 4 model looks better (in my opinion). The episode 1 model looked like crap.
I agree with Dangerous Arnie. TWD should be the game that TTG mostly focus on. This was the best selling TTG series and I don't think that abandoning it and making it disappointing is a good strategy for the biggest income. I hope that TTG will choose wisely...and will make TWD with Clementine as a protagonist.
I'd like to have clementine as a protagonist but her action sequences in season 2 were pretty... shit. And in season 3 especially, he only real strategy is to kick out a knee or leap and stab them. I think it's best to bring javier back but only for most of the action sequences.
I agree with you. I'm just curious about season 4. Probably s4 won't beat s1 and 2 but they have to make it better than ANF, if they don't, the whole TWD is fucked. I hope for the better gameplay and longer. I guess they're already working on a s4.
I bet they are working on it. They also need to listen to their fans' feedback. They said they would but if season 4 comes out and they don't... But if they do, here's hoping some fans haven't gotten through to them that might just make the game worse and maybe even boring. I've heard a few request for less action scenes and jokes. I mean, it's fuckin' the walking dead. It's a zombie game it isn't supposed to be laid back, you're supposed to kill shit and joke with each other to lighten the mood, right?
Surely they won't make a zombie, muertos or walkers game with lots of jokes. I just hope this game will be decent and will continue in the s5 but not after 6h.
What if telltale decide to put a lot of effort in and make one better than season 1 ;3 Inforgot which one but I remember one of the employees saying that they wish to capture the same magic that season 1 had some day. There's a telltale logic in itself seeing as it'll be impossible seeing as they work on like 4 games at a time. San Diego comic con woooo 6-7 days left
Regarding Minecraft, as you mentioned, it had arguably the biggest fan base in gaming today, so in addition to Telltale fans you'll be getting a lot of those buying the game. Besides, it's not just Telltale that make the money, it's the owners of the source material.
So for Batman and TWAU, DC; TFTB, 2K; Minecraft, Mojang and Microsoft, etc. In fact, the production of these games is likely morseo theirs than Telltale themselves. That's why they handed Telltale their licenses, right?
The chance of getting s4 better than s1 is nearly impossible but we'll see.
Yeah sucks that their best game franchise got the shortest end of the production stick this round with the very lowest sales. Heartbreaking after 3 years of criticizing season 2's shortcomings that they carelessly turn around and drop the ball even further down the ditch. Eh but then again what do we know.. we are just that vocal minority right? Well they might ONLY listen to the true minority that loved the game by divine miracle.
They could use like an entire separate team, and headquarters specifically for the development of the Walking Dead game. So they cannot be tied down by other less popular games and separated funding for their biggest game. Maybe they could of made a game with S2's choices making a big deal if they had more funds by the millions and maybe time so perhaps they needed to open a Walking Dead game fundraiser $10 per player Nationwide and worldwide to help out. Could be mismanaged by corporate or every player too cheap to pay for quality assurance but still may be worth a shot. I'd pay $75 extra if I knew they could make a great game that is worthy of GOTY status again.
Minecraft itself is without a doubt one of the best selling and most played games even after so long time, but the Minecraft Story Mode itself did not have such a good fanbase.
Looking at the statistics, only 10% of the players that started playing the game finished it till the end, which is very bad even if you compare it to ANF (nearly 50% of people completed it).
It's something I cant get my head around, why does such a forgotten game get another season and the ones everyone wants don't get one for 3 years and when you finally get it, its a total crap?
Even if they do get paid by Microsoft or Marvel, its about Telltale thinking and about satisfying fans of TWD, TWAU or TFTB, not Minecraft most people forgot about.
I think that, regarding Minecraft, there should be some clause stipulating the minimum number of seasons.
Do they want to capture back the magic of Season 1?
Impossible, except for some very basic conditions:
-Take back the original creative team of S1 (Sean Vanaman, etc.)
-Avoid this realistic look of the current engine, returning to truly cartoons graphics, preferably polishing S2 graphics.
-Amitting endless rewrites, even if there are leaks
-Stop with this craze to eliminate 99% of the cast just to justify it is in Zombie Apocalypse
-Adding more exploration hubs and, MAINLY
- DO NOT FORGET THAT IT IS NOT MICHAEL BAY THAT IS IN THE GAME DIRECTION.
