Question about Guybrush's hand

Will Guybrush ever have two hands again? I mean, it's not like Guybrush, if he'll ever find his hand, will just stick it back in... Uhm... right? (heh, I won't be surprised if he does, though) And no one in the series really has surgical abilities (well, yeah, DeSinge is a doctor, but as we know, he likes to take limbs OFF, not ON), so... do you think Guybrush is stick with his hook permanently or it is just a minor gag?

DeSinge needs his entire body - after he's captured him (we're bound to be captured at least one more time in the game), he stitches the hand on. Why else would he need the entire body, when only the hand is supposedly cursed? So he needs a complete Guybrush. Eventually when the curse is lifted (what are the odds they won't be?), he will still have his hand and he'll be the same old Guybrush from before.

    Yeah.

Atm, I'm hoping his hand changes every episode.

If you talk to the merfolk librarian he mentions that his people have the ability to (re)attach limbs.
  • edited August 2009
    I reckon he will.
He does seem to be fond of the hook, though.
Also, you should really label that this thread contains spoilers. Heck, even the title of the thread is a spoiler!

    ..this

and it's the most funniest moment of the beginning of this episode too

I think that the hook was necessary for making him look like a REAL pirate. : P
  • edited August 2009
I like him with the hook :)
But yeah, I'm guessing he'll get the hand back sooner or later.

Uhm... changing the thread name with the edit didn't REALLY change the thread's name...

He needs to at least get his ring back, otherwise a certain woman might make it so that isn't all he'll lose...
  • edited August 2009
if you lost the hand with your wedding ring...would you be more concerned about the hand or the ring?

i think guybrush will get the hand back eventually, since that was always one of his trademarks...being a pirate without having lost some body-parts. until tales he was probably the only pirate without a hook, eye-patch, pegleg or parrot...and now he has two of the four.

The thread title is a massive spoiler, mind you... maybe it could be changed? After Telltale has taken great pains to avoid people guessing the first scene of episode 2
(by actually having Guybrush still present Elaine with an intact zombie hand in the first "official" teaser on their blog)
, it isn't the best move to just give it away in the forum.

Yeah, it'll get reattached at the end of the game or something...

I'd like the hook to stay

The voodoo lady will attach the hand back to Guybrush, maybe in Episode 4 I guess. Maybe we could see him with the beard from MI2 too and a pirate hat! I love when they change Guybrush looks like when he was
    invisible
    in MI1, using the
    dress
    in MI2 and being
    El Pollo Diablo
    in COMI!

Interesting (maybe) aside, though it may have been mentioned before:

In the teaser trailer for Ep. 2, it is obvious that Telltale swapped the hook with the poxed hand model and left the choreography and rigging the same... The hand does that gyro-wobble thing the hook does throughout the episode. (Okay, this may only be interesting to somebody who dabbles in Blender.)

Anyway, I say let Guybrush keep the hook if he wants it. The hand can always be sewn on somewhere else. Besides, it's always good to keep a hand in reserve in case he needs to regenerate and fight The Master.

I was thinking before...with a hook and parrot, all he would need to fit the total pirate stereotype would be a peg leg, and an eyepatch.

The hand was a WEAPON of the master. It regenerated to fight Davros.

    Still, Awesome reference.

People, don't you realize one of the fundamental laws of the series applies here? At the end of the episode (ToMI as a whole being one episode of the MI series), everything is right back to normal.
(insert image of burning New New York from Futurama here)

Hmmm not really... there's continuity in the plot line. Although Guybrush and Elaine aren't together at the start of MI2, that's explained later. At the start of MI3, Guybrush is drifting on a bumper car from Big Whoop- from MI2. At the start of MI4 Guybrush and Elaine are married, as happened in MI3. So things do definitely carry over and the plot is continuous... so I don't see what the difference is between Guybrush acquiring a hook as opposed to a wife...

I think the hook is awesome, and eventually Guybrush should have his leg cut off and re-attached with a portable canon.

    ...wait, that sounds awfully familiar.

Perhaps the hook and the pox will turn Guybrush evil. Then when he has to rescue Elaine, he'll have to decide between the dark and the light side. Y'know, like Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars. It's a total narrative technique, but it works everytime.

The hook should stay until Guybrush realizes he's been possessed. But will it be too late!? Will it now be LeChuck's show? Even though he can't figure out puzzles!?! Is this the end of the Monkey Island series? Should I be preparing for the worst?

Doesn't it hurt when you get your hand chopped off? Guybrush must be pretty tough to juust go "ow" once then forget about it, unless the pox prevented him from feeling the pain.
  • edited August 2009
I think Guybrush's hand was anesthetized with grog (to keep it under control) when it got chopped off. Not that that would make it completely painless...

Yeah, that's the only unrealistic thing about him getting his hand chopped off.
The absence of blood, the fact he didn't need any healing whatsoever, that's normal. But the fact he didn't complain about the pain enough? Now THAT's unrealistic :P
  • edited August 2009
you know what he needs to replace his hand with?

    Chainsaw.

    Hail to the King, Baby.
  • edited August 2009
Perhaps the pox had something to do with the lack of pain and blood... maybe it stopped the blood flow and nerve impulses prior to the cutting (?) - (ok so that would make it fall off probably but poetic licence and all that). hmm.

plus, Didn't deSinge refer to it as "Dead tissue"

technically it's a zombie hand now...being undead and all. cutting that off should work without much pain or bloodloss. the hand seems to be doing fine on its own as well..

It will be interesting to see the pox getting worse in Guybrush. He will probably start to become more
    like an evil pirate
    , and then
    LeChuck
    has to save him
and possibly in doing so and seeing Guybrush and Elaine get together again he will feel disappointed of being a good guy and become evil again
    .

I would like Guybrush to have other hands before getting his own back like an skeleton hand and the parrot.
  • edited August 2009
Doesn't anyone else see what Telltale are doing? Guybrush will become the evil pirate by then end! Parrot, hook, all he needs is eyepatch and peg leg! Well we have episode 3 and 4 to do that in! Then in episode 5, you're playing LeChuck trying to reclaim his evil voodoo throne!

Will Guybrush become some sort of pirate Darth Vader? Hopefully La Espoja Grande is powerful enough to make him come back to his true human form.
  • edited August 2009
actually, it occurs to me that Guybrush doesn't really need to lose any more extremities to be more piratey. What he should do is get himself a Nice Hat. With the parrot and the hook, I think that would be enough to assert his pirate-ness.

i always though that lechuck was pirate darth vader, being half-dead and ruling with an iron fist. guybrush will be more like pirate luke skywalker....cut off hand, annoying golden thing hanging around him all the time, a wife that's probably his sister. hmm, whatever. he will become more evil though..
..the strange thing is, that elaine seems to be going to the dark side much faster than he is. she won't be able to help guybrush, once he's evil. so lechuck might really be the only unpoxed individual left at some point.
  • edited August 2009
I wonder if we'd see Luke Skywalker making out with Boba LeFett in the next Episode.
  • edited August 2009
Yeah he's bound to get his hand back :) It's not something I could see becoming a permanent part of Guybrush.

I'm gonna guess that at some point we're going to see a fully infected Guybrush. He'll have the parrot on his shoulder, the hook for a hand and I bet we get a hat or something in the next chapter :D
