  • Really? Cause I'd think you'd have said David if that's your reasoning.

  • I've been sweet and nice my entire life. Gotta be bad sometimes, you know. ;) :joy:

Anyway, in all seriousness, I just thought it was kinda amusing someone saying that he had potential, because David was pretty much the focus of the season. We couldn't sit down, drink tea with the group, ask them how they feel about certain situations, learn about their backgrounds, develop any relationships(whether they'll be romantic or friendly or hostile) because of the constant sense of emergency and dealing with David's problems all the time. It's all about David, David, David!

  • Yeah, pretty much. And even then, most of his character was that of a Kenny-Clone with much of what made him work(likability, sympathy, and even tragic aspects) gone, a military background, and a very under-explained(or at least unjustified) chip on his shoulder towards Javier. So when they started constantly shilling him(outside of Gabe, even), underplaying or outright shifting the other characters(mainly Kate and especially Joan), and trying make him this uber-tragic figure at the last minute, it just fell flat and sullied what little there was to respect about him. Which wasn't much to begin with, mind you, but let's work with the sentiment here.

  • I know it's Kenny all over again. Except worse. I am just tired of that. Angry Dad, wants to protect his family, is butthurt over everything, yarayara. It gets repetitive and annoying. I fought David cause I was done. After Episode 5 I lost even the slightest respect I had for him.
If they ever remaster ANF I hope he doesn't receive so much screentime so characters like Ava, Dr Lingard, Max, Eleanor, Conrad get the development and spotlight they deserve.
If they always planned on having David to be the focus, why didn't they make him the playable protagonist? :unamused:

  • Really? I thought you were being sarcastic lol. Most of the season, to me, felt like it was about proving Xavier magically grew a sense of responsibility off screen, while David was featured a good deal I didn't think much at all was spent on actually building on the tragic life they seemed to build for him. I apologize, I should have elaborated more.

Here's my top 5 list - read if you want

    5. Tripp

His character went from OK to useless. There was potential, as there was with every character in ANF, but it was wasted due to laziness. After episode 1, he just got worse and worse. In episode 5, there was a herd outside of Richmond. David's being held hostage. Javier needs to steal a truck. And Tripp, the biggest guy in the room, stays behind with Elenor. WTF. I wouldn't even expect Duck to do something that childish. You could've taken his character out of the game and literally nothing would have changed.

    4. Elenor

She was obviously written to be a love-interest for Javier but I guess that was forgotten about. I genuinely liked her character in episode 1- she seemed like a sweet gal. I sided with her for the whole game because she was actually a pretty decent character. Was. If you shoot Conrad, she'll turn on you no matter what you say. Even if you had her back for the whole game, she'll snitch on you to Joan. And if Tripp dies as a result, go to hell Javier, this was all your fault. Sheesh.

    3. David

I understood his anger with Javier in episode 1; Javi wasn't with his family the one time they needed him the most. But after that it just got tedious and annoying. You say something David doesn't agree with? Fuck you, Javier. You don't agree with something David said? Fuck you, Javier. I'd even go as far to say that he's emotionally abusive. He's written to be a hot-head, which is stupid because the player is SUPPOSED to like him. You either have to submit to him and listen to him shout at you for the whole game or you call him out. If you call him out, you're the asshole because he's your brother. Asshole.

    2. Clementine

Sorry sweatpea. I never thought I'd do this, but its what needs to be done.

You'd find more personality in a stale slice of bread. It doesn't matter how you treated her in season 1 and 2, she acts the same no matter what. She acts like JANE. Like I said in another post, TT Daryl Dixon'd her character and only put her in only so the OG's would ride along just to make sure they wouldn't kill her off. She was just a walking advertisement. RIP Clementine.

    1. Gabe

I'm sure no one saw THAT one coming.

Like David, he was written to be hot-headed. He's an angsty teenager, I get it. But here's a tip to all of you future-storytellers: NEVER write in an angry hypocritical hot-head if the protagonist is SUPPOSED TO LIKE THEM! DURR DEE DURR! Imagine if Clementine acted like a spoilt brat in season 1 episode 1. Maybe Lee would've put up with her but it doesn't matter how Lee would've felt. It matters how YOU would've felt because you're the player. The problem with season 3 is that Javier thought FOR the player. He put up with Gabe's bullshit and we just had to watch him with no say. I'm slightly going off topic but thats my biggest pet peeve with Gabe's character. We had to babysit him and sugar-coat everything we said to him. If we had more opportunities to tell him off, maybe he wouldn't be number 1 on this list.

This was long but there ya go.

  • All of them but javi

  • Gab was an insufferable little twat snot that should have died in mariana's stead

No, actually Gabe was one of the better ones. Though whether or not that's due to a lack of competition is up for debate.

  • Nah. Personally, I don't anyone needed to die there anyway, but it's better that it wasn't him either way.

Characters with a "I fucking hate you" rating beside their names:

    Kate (10/10)
    Eleanor (9/10)
    Gabe (8.5/10)
    Badger (8/10)
    Joan (7.5/10)
    Javier (6/10)
    Clint (5.5/10)
    Tripp (5/10)
    David (4/10)
    Conrad (3/10)
    Clementine (2/10)

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to say that Gabe, Kate, and Eleanor are worse than a child killer, they just invoked more hate from me than the others.

  • I know, dear. :kissing_heart:

    Creepy?

But he shoudlve been mature from the start.

    But that would've been boring.

And it's not like he wasn't mature at all. If anything, one of the main reasons he came off as such a jerk to people was because he was being uptight and even judgmental at times.

Plus, Character Development usually constitutes an improvement in some shape or form. If he was just a Spear Counterpart to Clementine(which he sorta was in an ironically flipped way, but let's not get into that here), he wouldn't have had nearly as much to him.

The problem with season 3 is that Javier thought FOR the player.

Holy shit. That summed up the entire problem with ANF absolutely perfectly. The player was allowed to "become" Lee and Clem in previous seasons, but Javi? He'd already made up his mind about what he was going to do, and we were just along for the ride. You DO NOT screw around with the player to that degree. Shame on you, Telltale. Didn't you learn anything from Bioware's mistakes?
