I do not lost faith, but I have a few wishes, which are phantasies and one, which can be heard for upcoming last season.
In final season we should be Clem. Participate the study of character. Her companions should means something, they shouldn't be only cannon fodder, which die anyway like it was with Ava and Tripp. Showing the bounds with Javis family would be good to the story.
Last season has less freedom than previous ones, so I want more interactions with surroundings, more open space where I can control character and be in gameplay. Maybe more gameplay at all - some sneaking, scavenging, cooperation with other characters, not only choosing 4 answers all the time. This could higher the immerse.
[Technical] I want to import my saves easy without telltale account and games on it, just like it was before on steam.
But my 'deepest' wish is, if it's final season, I want to see Lee once again in flashback - the symbolic 'framing device', when all has started and where all will end. To show the whole way of Clem.
But to give an answer: Honestly, I doubt it'll be able to.
It should first be said that much of what happened with ANF was an evolution of what happened with Season 2, albeit with simultaneously worse and better results. It's difficult to truly fix what's been broken--usually not impossible, but very difficult nonetheless. And unfortunately, fixing what's been broken seldom fixes everything: that shattered treasure will never truly be the same.
More to the point, it's been made pretty clear that when people talk about "redeeming" the franchise, it almost always involves invoking as much Season 1 nostalgia as possible, often when little care as to what actual material/substance that would naturally add to The Final Season. Telltale already tried to cover up their shortcomings in both by pandering and in both cases, doing so only made said flaws more apparent and even made things worse in the earlier case. And you know what the extra sad thing is? Part of me legitimately can't see them making an entire 5 episode Season out of "Find AJ" and thus they kinda have to dip into the old well in order to make things feel worthwhile for many longtime fans.
The fact that this is supposed to be The Final Season is little more than an indirect acknowledgement that TWDG has run it's course into the ground at a slanted angle and while it was still able to function, that crash has made continuing the track increasingly error prone. Thus, it's best to just wrap things up by going on one last obligatory ride before putting it away. Maybe, just maybe someday, we'll get a reboot that hopefully runs at a better sequence that people can consistently enjoy. But, until the wait for that hypothetical day truly becomes a period, we'll just be sitting idly by waiting and judging what's left of the original's noneffective perish song.
Hopefully S4 will be better than ANF, but I still doubt it'll be that good, or that I'll care about the story at all. ANF really just fucked up a lot for the series going forward. I mean what are they even going to do exactly? We know the plot (atleast the start of the game) is finding Aj. Cool great, too bad I dont really care about Aj... at all. You see, this is what happens, ANF didnt do anything for me to care about what happens to Aj. He is just a plot device again, ANF did nothing for me to feel attached to him. So there is already going to be a disconnect between the player and the game. Out to accomplish a goal I dont care about. Also for this to go on for 5 episodes... lots of bullshit is going to happen. Either some dumb shit will happen and we get caught up with some other antagonist group trying to find Aj, or we find Aj and then get stuck with the bad guy conflict plot. Just for 5 episodes with the basic plot being "find Aj" I already see this story doing nothing interesting or original, just more of the same, and not for the better.
It's hard to describe what I want for Final Season when I think about the beginning of it all. Although Season 1 was not perfect in all respects I would say it hit 99.9%. What is the secret of such success? Perhaps it was an almost exquisite writing, spectacular art direction, and the sense of urgency that each chapter seemed to impose on us.
Season 2 attempted to continue the base cast but slipped into a writing that, while not exactly bad but vicious, left many holes in its development and, to make matters worse, the 'idea of several possible endings'. Obviously it would be monumental work to try to sequence the various finals (which later proved true with ANF).
What do I want for the final season? Simple: a simple story, exciting and cohesive, without cheap trick of futile emotion.
For it to earn my respect, it must be done right. Like, Season One/Life is Strange/Tales from the Borderlands right.
For it to earn my mo… moreney, it must bring back characters I care about and not crap my laptop up.
Alternatively for either/both, it must be gaaay. (Having openly LGBT+ characters and killing them all off or having them be villainous does not count.)
Personally, Season 4 needs to take many steps in the right direction to make up for ANF's shortcomings:
Either have longer episodes out of 4/5, or have shorter episodes out of 8. ANF is the shortest TWD season (besides the mini-series) yet, and the story appears to jump from one event to another without enough breaks in between to make up for it. Getting invested with the story and characters takes time to indulge and understand, an important feature that is difficult to maintain if the story is proceeding too fast for the audience to try and keep up or care about what is happening.
Be more ambitious and original with the story. Stop making call-backs and references to early TWD seasons through scenes or characters, and tell us a new story that can seamlessly be told after ANF.
Make the characters more consistent in behaviour and motivation, less one-dimensional, and more importantly, a reason to want them to succeed and/or survive.
Stop killing characters left and right purely for shock value. The side characters aren't all meant to be seen as 'red-shirts' just to fill up the death tally, and the emotional impact has already been lost a long time ago.
Make determinant characters matter more than the traditional 'delaying their death until the next episode or the next few minutes' development. Otherwise, why bother saving them to begin with?
No forced romance segments. Enough said.
No character bias or plot armor. Again, enough said.
And finally...give Clementine a story arc besides just looking for baby AJ. Give her a good reason to warrant an appearance in Season 4, and make it clear if she is the leading character or not. Don't have her seemingly playable in a story that is not revolving around her.
It will take a lot for Season 4 to impress me at this point, quiet frankly, but I may as well see how it all ends when the time comes.
Well for one: listening to the fans and their feedback. You can’t make a game and not listen to the fans and expect them to not give you shi… moret about it. There’s a lot of things the fans want in the Final Season, and there’s a guarantee not everything we want will be in the game, but the most important ones should be (like longer episodes, hubs, better character development, and more impactful choices.).
Another thing is; not killing off Clementine. Yes it’s the Final Season and it’s the end of her story, but that’s a poor excuse to kill her off. Let’s not forget she’s still so young and there’s a lot her character can do when she grows up. Not to mention there isn’t an explanation as to why they should kill her off. She’s the company mascot and a fan favorite in all of The Walking Dead franchise. There’s not even a good way to kill her off. Have AJ kill her? Nope, because he’s only 3 and I’m sure he can barely even lift a gun. Besides, they… [view original content]
Have a bigger emphasis on characters and their development than action.
I feel like all variations of Walking Dead have always been at their best when they focus on a smaller cast of characters who are properly developed as opposed to a larger cast of less developed characters.
Make the consequences of choices have a bigger and longer lasting effect. Judging by what I have heard about episode 5 of Batman The Enemy Within I am hoping they have similar plans up their sleave for the final season.
Give us a chance to breathe. Everything in ANF happened so fast you barely had time to think about what is going on enough to actually care about what will happen in the future.
I would like to see a more emotional story than a gut-wrenching one.
Everything in ANF happened so fast that the timeline was maybe only 10 days or however .
Actually, I think the game only took place over the span of 5 days. For the most part I agree however, we don't necessarily need month long time skips but the game should at least take place over the course of a few weeks rather than only 5 days.
● More Dramatic story than a poor written action story .
● Return the old graphics (Seriously am i the only one that liked the old graphi… morecs more than the new one?) .
● Make choices matter for the whole damn game !
● No more poor-written deaths . (example : Drowning, Hanging)
● Slow timeline . Everything in ANF happened so fast that the timeline was maybe only 10 days or however .
● More interaction .
● More arguing . I would've loved to see drama, just like with Kenny and Lilly
● More gore, ANF almost didn't had any blood on the characters clothes.
● Haircut variants . That haircut from the final looked like the Joker from Batman..
● Better evolving throughout the season . Just like S1
● Better Characters .
I can go all day talking about ideas that'll make the final season better, but that's it for now .
Well, most of that "Action" story took place in Wellington and it was 5 Days. What a huge dissapointment, Never seed game from TT that the story is 5 Days ... It probably had to be a mini-series (Like Michonne).

I want referring to the time skips between seasons. I was referring to the present day timeline, The first junkyard scene to the ending which was only 5 days.

What is so bad about the new engine? It is an improvement from season 1. Yeah, season 1 definitely had a better story but The engine hasn't downgraded in anyway. The animation quality in ANF has improved significantly in comparison to season 1. The lighting and visual effects are also better. Personally I don't miss all of the awkward facial animations seen in season 1.
While the story and character development of ANF was lacking the engine itself was fine.
I hope The Final Season isn’t about love relationships as this was all in A New Frontier with Clementine and Gabe, David, Kate and Javier triangle. I felt from these relationships from A New Frontier made the game feel like I was reading a love story from Taylor Swift.
Clem's maternal love for AJ is already the main premise of the final season which I am happy about. But, like you said I hope the season doesn't shift focus to romantic love and include a forced love interest for Clem that is a crucial part of the story.

Bumping this since we're a few weeks from getting our first official info on The Final Season.
What does that even mean here?

i don't think LGBT representation is truly representation if they're immune from being killed off, no one is immune to that except clementine

It's not only that. The new engine is full of shit, i liked the old one more, this "new" engine is so big failure and was made for Batman ..

I mean in Graphics. Season 1 and 2 looked more cool even if they looked cartoonish. The blood also was way better.
Oh ok. You were talking about the art style.
I just missed the old art. It looked way better, i think.
