Why So Much Hate On The TV Show?

A lot of people on this forum have been shitting on the AMC TWD Show. Yes, it’s not as amazing as everyone says it is, but I always wondered: Why? Like why does everyone treat the show like it’s the worst thing ever?

I watch the show and I enjoy it. The characters are good and the acting is great, especially during Rick’s and Negan’s parts. What’s there to hate?

I know some of you are like “well, it’s been going downhill lately ever since (blank) died” or “they didn’t follow (blank) storyline properly”.

Well, to that I say: Because they can’t exactly follow the comic storyline. Because of they do, then people will already know what happens by reading the comics and not even watch the show. Granted, some of the stuff on the show are straight out of the comics like Rick biting off Joe’s neck and Negan killing Glenn.

Don’t forget too that they have to limit on the gore and swearing on the show. AMC isn’t HBO, they can’t show nudity or extreme gore or swearing every second. You can’t blame them for that.

Can someone who hates the show please explain to me why you hate it?

I love the TV show and I didn't saw anyone hating it. The walking Dead it's my favorite series and I like it a lot more than the game.
I read the comics and I think they are following very well the comics. Of course they are going to change some things, what do you expect?

You’d be surprised how many people hate the TV Show on the forum.

  • I don't hate the show. I found Beth's death really stupid, got bored, and stopped watching. Going to try to catch back up at some point though. Honestly, I prefer when the show doesn't try to follow the comics. It tends to be terrible because they handle poorly. cough Andrea * cough* It's far better at when it does it's own thing (like Daryll).

  • Lazy writing which involves using the same schtick (who's going to die this episode?) to drive the plot, lack of character development, stupid illogical decisions made by the main characters... these are some of the reasons why I, and a lot of people, have lost respect for the show.

  • I really like the show, but recently I’ve been growing bored with it because it seems like the conflict has run its course. It’s starting to repeat itself.

Group finds a settlement. Group tries to join settlement. Something is wrong with settlement. Settlement burns down. Rinse and repeat.

Also, I understand that the point of the show is that the walkers aren’t the only threats - that living people are just as much “walking dead” as the rest of them - but I wish the walkers were still somewhat of a threat. I feel like the novelty of the zombie apocalypse is starting to wear off because, frankly, we’ve exhausted all possible conflicts. Furthermore, at least in earlier seasons we had hope that the group could find society again, but we’ve seen that they’re no longer comfortable living in society, so what’s the point?

  • Group finds a settlement. Group tries to join settlement. Something is wrong with settlement. Settlement burns down. Rinse and repeat.

That’s gonna change when Season 8 starts. Trust me. In a way, the games are like that too. Clem finds a group, they die, she leaves, rinse and repeat.

but I wish the walkers were still somewhat of a threat

I agree, but sooner or later the number of walkers will increase and they’ll become a major threat in the future.

  • Its mostly just a circlejerk tbh

  • I feel like most episodes are ready boring, you could miss a episode and not miss anything important, I think there's too many episodes in a season just my opinion.

  • Some episodes are just filler, which is why I gave up on TV series in general. I really hate filler episodes that delay the action or add nothing to the story. It's like wasting my time.

Like there has been moments in the show which has made me happy since I kinda felt like it was going down the shitter - like Carl getting his comic book counterpart arc, Rick & Michonne getting together, everyone fighting off the horde which invaded Alexandra etc. But it just genuinely feels like its just getting more lazier with its writing.

One of the reasons being how awfully written some of the character deaths have been. Like with Glenn & Abraham's death scene, I could fully well understand why Abe died, the bat landed on him. But why kill Glenn for what Daryl did??? It was Daryl who acted up and punched Negan so it should of been Daryl to go. Like I get that Glenn originally dies like Abe in the comics but if they wanted to kill Glenn of they should of done it in a better and more respectful way, instead of Daryl pulling some crybaby shit and having Glenn pay the price for it.

Also speaking of Daryl, it also feels like he's more of the main character than Rick. Like, yeah, okay, he was great during seasons 1 & 2 but I really feel like his arc has been completed since season 3 and there's nothing going on for him anymore. Honestly instead of keeping him around cuz cash cow they should of gone with their original plan and killed him off in season 2 and that would definitely backed up their point which they tried to make on the talking dead (??? I think it was???) about "well it's the walking dead no one is safe" which I would of believed instead of having me roll my eyes. Also hate how they make deaths all about him too. Like for Beth & Glenn's deaths should of focused more on Maggie's grief and Dennis' should've had Tara more upset than what she actually was instead of having Daryl blame himself.

  • I pretty much agree with what you said except for this:

But why kill Glenn for what Daryl did???

Because if they didn’t kill Glenn and he survived the Savior attack, the story would’ve changed drastically. Negan killing Glenn changed the characters, more so Maggie and Rick. Negan not killing Glenn will change the story and Maggie’s character wouldn’t be as great as she is now. There was no other way to give Glenn a proper send off other than Negan killing him.

  • I really love the show, but hate thinking about how much more it could be if it were to be on HBO. I think the writers would've had more freedom instead of trying to keep it TV-14. Soo many scenes I wish could've had F-bombs included in them. Many scenes deserve F-bombs as well.

  • Some people get bored with the way it drags out the plot. I'll admit there's been a few episodes where I've wondered wtf they're doing, but overall there's been way more good than bad. The pacing can be questionable but sometimes it's good to slow shit down and focus on character development.

  • I don’t nor will ever hate the show but like with most tv shows, after several years of being on air, it’s not as good as it used to be. I noticed a decline after the Too Far Gone episode mid way through Season 4 when they left the prison. The whole dynamic of what the show was has changed and my biggest issue these days is that there are far too many characters to focus on due to the communities we have and i know that they stay involved in the comics even to this day. Due to their being too many people, i cannot get attached to any of the new characters because they just don’t get enough screen time, hell some people I don’t even remember the names of and that is bad for them.

    I’ll always stay loyal though

  • The acting from most characters is atrocious

  • Generally I think it is down to how you can watch the first three episodes and the last three and know exactly what has gone on without getting the impression that you've missed anything.

The show is just padded out far too much and while the interesting stuff is really good, it just drowns in a sea of mediocrity.

I get that it is a big money maker for AMC with the advertisers but I really wish they'd slash the episode count per season.

  • They don't know how to handle a storyline properly without fucking it up like splitting the whole cast and we get to see rick in about half the episodes because of it OR EVEN NEGAN! Also this shit show that I still watch because I have no life bores the fuck out of me sometimes...and don't let me start about that season 6 final.......

  • For me it feels like they don't know what to do anymore. They are afraid to kill characters, the main ones are just super heroes at this point.
The whole Negan thing is just plain bs, they could have killed him more than once at this point (Instead of going for a random guy Shiva could have just killed Negan), I know they're following, or trying to follow the comics but that's what kills it for me. That's why I like FTWD more, they are not afraid to kill main characters in dumb ways and don't have to follow any comic.
Also so many dumb and straight bullshit moments: Killing the horde of walkers inside Alexandria, Daryl killing Negan's men with a rocket launcher (Umm a rocket launcher does not work that way), characters do overall dumb decisions and somehow walkers are not a threat anymore (Remember in the earlier seasons when they were afraid to fire a gun because it would attract walkers, even in the woods ? What the hell happened to that ?)
Soon we will have new formed countries fighting over land all over the world, and from time to time we'll get to see 2 or 3 walkers somewhere in the distance.

  • Group needs to find shelter
Group finds shelter that already has people at it
Group debates whether they should trust these people for an episode or two
This leads to one of two things: a.) Turns out those people weren't trustworthy and they try to kill them. b.) The people were trustworthy, but they are sitting ducks for another group to attack.
Then, someone in the group dies in the conflict and they have nowhere to stay.
They recollect, then they need to find shelter...

  • Here is why I dislike the show a bit. Rick is the main character and I don't mind if he isn't in an episode and AMC wants to show a villains story like The Governor or Negan. However, when they start showing minor characters that I do not care about like Tara I am sorry she is a good actor but she does nothing for this show's story. Also Negan is the most interesting character on the show because he shows some signs of insanity while also being a charismatic and intelligent leader for The Saviors. Minor characters should get like ten minutes of screen time not drag the fact of them wanting to do something to help Rick and his group for one hour that is filler and this show has a ton of filler episodes even when they promised that Season 7 wouldn't have fillers. I was a huge fan of The Walking Dead, I bought the comics, toys, the TellTale games, and would have parties for Season Premieres of the show but now the show is not Rick's story anymore its becoming all split into character's stories that I really don't care about. Also the walkers are just a plot device to move the story along now. Also Alexandria had all that fighting against Negan and not one Walker showed up like what!?
