Erm.... I can't find the poll.

    I'd say Captain Dread, mon.

Ignatius Cheese isn't up there, either.

    oh damn forgot Ignatius Cheese

Tough choice, but Haggis JUST BARELY beats the others, just by nature of being Alan Freaking Young.

    The map! winslow FTW

Otis. I liked his character design, and a crewman sprung from jail only to mutiny then be left stranded on an island later? How cool is that? I never really liked the Barbershop Pirates outside of their one song, and they were gone as soon as they appeared almost, serving hardly any purpose. Winslow still has three chapters left for me to draw any opinion.

    I second that :)

To be honest, I like EfMI's crew the most (plus Winslow, of course :p ). And though Otis and Carla are from SoMI, we do spend much more time with them in EfMI. Plus they didn't really mutiny then. For once. And I. Cheese is a cool character, in my opinion.

"Wait, your name is Ignatius Cheese?"
    "Aye."
    "I. Cheese?"
    "Aye."

EDIT: Oh... noticed it's about ONE person... well then... I'll choose Winslow, for that matter... but I still like EfMI crew very much.

lol slapping him was like one of my fav thing guybrush does

    I'd have to say Otis.

    "Ha freaking ha."
  • edited August 2009
I guess Otis? Honestly Guybrush hasn't really had all that personable of a crew ever. His new first mate is so far pretty great, but I don't feel like I can really judge the character well enough until the series is over.

I'll say Carla now, but by the end of the season of Tales it'll probably be Winslow! Very hard choice to make, good poll! Someone should make a poll on "Favourite New Character From Tales"...
  • edited August 2009
I voted Winslow, but you forgot Captain Dread! If you had included him, it would have been a tougher choice (though I think I'd still go for the Winslow man), and Dread was better than all of those other options.

Captain Dread wasn't really in Guybrush's crew.

I'd disagree as he crewed the ship you sailed around in in MI2, and pretty much had the same role as Winslow.

Technically, Captain Dread wouldn't be a Captain if Guybrush was a Captain. Guybrush didn't own Dread's ship, he didn't really had a power of command over Dread (as a Captain, because, well, he wasn't a Captain) and Dread sailing where Guybrush asks to was more like a mere gratitude for finding a sailing talisman (which was, kind of, pretty much important for him).

And, I'm not quite sure about this one fact (it was a long time ago since I played MI2), but wasn't ferrying other people over different islands Dread's main job before he lost the navigator head talisman?

And though his in-game role is similiar to Winslow's, Winslow is a first mate, and, well, in Guybrush's crew. Dread was not.

Dread is chartered by Guybrush and is working for him, Dread specifically says that you have chartered him and ship. For the duration of the lease, he is working for you. A captain of a flagship would still be called a captain even though he is working under and considered part of the crew under an admira, and a captain working for a company is considered part of the crew of the ship by the company, so it is possible to have a captain as part of your crew.

For the purposes of this poll and for the role of crew in MI games, Dread does qualify I believe.

Guess I have to replay MI2 then, I do not remember anything about Guybrush chartering the ship (that's a fact that kind of does make Dread qualify for this poll, I suppose, since Guybrush does hire him). I do remember that you had to find a sailing talisman for him, and I though Dread was just helping Guybrush, not working for him.

It was a close call between Reginald Van Winslow and Haggis McMutton... But in the end I chose Haggis. Maybe when Tales is over, I'll think otherwise.
  • edited August 2009
Yeah, you have to find a necklace to replace his 'eye that has seen the world' talisman in order to get him to be willing to sail (as well as end the Largo Embargo), but you also have to pay him 30 pieces o' eight as well, (I think it's 30), at which point he says "Consider my ship chartered then" or something along those lines. Then again, I admit that I played the first part again not that long ago so it's still kind of fresh in my mind. :D

    Winslow probably, as an individual.

But otherwise I'd have voted for all three; Haggis, Edward and Bill. I don't think I'm a big enough fan of any of them individually, but when the three of them are together... :D

As much as I liked Haggis, he did kinda mutiny you...like everyone else on the list aside from Winslow. He wins by default - him being hilarious is just a bonus. :p

Cheese also didn't mutiny once. Even after the LUA bar incedent... Though he's not in the poll.

    wooo go winslow!

i find it almost funny that if this was asked a week and a half ago, winslow probably wouldnt have even been in the top 3

I couldn't stand Carla and Otis, especially in Escape. They were lazy and held that whole Monkey Island thing over Guybrush's head for way too long. I mean the guy found them great jobs, said sorry numerous times, did all the work while they just literally stood around, took all their insults, didn't complain about them, offered to get them things from the islands, and has been though 100 times more tough times they have, give the guy a break. Winslow is my vote by a landslide as he works hard and treats Guybrush with respect. Not to mention he's freakin hilarious.

Well, for what it's worth, Haggis wasn't very exciting in CMI's first chapter, either. ;)
