Might be as simple as getting rid of Gimple.

What are your current impressions of this radical corporate change for the television series?

  • Still my favorite show and I will watch it no matter what, but the kid's already bit and it's too late

  • Not sure how I feel about this. While the show has declined in quality over the last couple of seasons, Gimple is the one that helped revive the show after the disastrous Mazzara run. Seasons 4 and 5 are up there as some of my favorite seasons of TWD. Not to mention that he wrote some of the best episodes in the series, such as Clear, The Grove, and No Sanctuary, among others. You can argue that he needed to go as show runner, but he was still a great writer, and with his new position, it doesn't seem like he'll be doing any more writing for the show, just overseeing both TWD and FTWD.

Not to mention that I'm not entirely sold on Angela Kang being the one to take over. She's written some good episodes and, other than Gimple, has been with the show the longest. But when I look at her writing credits, I see a lot of episodes I was never a huge fan of. If it was up to me, I'd rather have the new show runner be either David Leslie Johnson, Corey Reed, or Channing Powell. If people complained about how Gimple was doing, what makes them think Kang will change things up or take the show in a new direction?

Who knows, maybe Ms. Kang will end up bringing something new. Maybe we'll see another huge uptick in quality like we did when Gimple took over, before he started to try and be TWD's Christopher Nolan or Zack Snyder. I guess we'll have to see what happens in Season 9.
