Different Backgrounds for John decision in Episode 4 choices

I found it really interesting that for the Villain ending, you can see that John is at that Carnival location, where you can presume he and Harley will go to for their criminal activities. But for the Vigilante ending, John's at the Subway, which is abandoned now with the rest of the Pact in custody. They couldn't have just done this for no reason, and I'm interested in why there's a distinction here. I really hope that the Vigilante path will allow for some redemption in John instead of him ultimately being an issue that cannot be ignored.
