Ok this may sound silly but I can't figure out how to choose saves

Or pick the option to set up a new clementine. I played the game months ago and I could have sworn that I was able to create my own background before starting. Now it just starts the game without asking to continue the story. I could have sworn before starting a new gane you were presented with several options, a grumpy clementine would be fine if it were my first save. This is dumb but what am I doing wrong? Thanks ror the help
