What if the motor inn group had found Javi, Kate, Gabe and Marianna instead of Ben?

Nearly a year ago, I posted a thread asking what if Lee and co. had met Vince, Wyatt and Justin/Danny during the events of "Starved For Help", based on their 400 Days stories taking place before Episode 2 of Season 1, compared to the others, whose stories all took place after Season 1.

Anyway, I also wondered what might have happened if, in this scenario, it was the Garcias - Javi, Kate, Gabe and Marianna - that Lee and co found in the woods instead of Ben, Travis and Mr Parker? According to the flashback of Season 3, Episode 3, the Garcias stayed at their Baltimore house for three months after the outbreak began, waiting for David to come back. But he never did, the neighbourhood was picked clean and Javi and Kate found and killed one of Gabe's friends as a walker.

What if, somehow, the Garcias decided to head south (possibly to try and make their way to Texas or Mexico) and found their way to the Macon area? What difference would it make to both groups? Who would be more likely to live and/or die in this scenario? Who would be more likely to end up in the bear trap?

Personally, I reckon Lee and Javi might find some common ground in being stigmatised for past actions - Lee for his murder of the state senator and Javi for his lifetime ban from baseball.

  • You know, at first, I thought this was one of the speculating/inquiring for the sake of it threads, but then I remember that the Garcia Van Group actually were on the road that far back.

Off the top of my head,:

    • I can kinda see Kate being caught between Lilly and Kenny in that while she agrees that keeping on the move just might be for the best(with later fruit to bear, even), she might find herself commending Lilly's stance on staying put where they have a consistent and comfortable formula for survival. Well that and/or potentially shrinking back a bit from her and Larry taking issue with her agreeing with Kenny.
    • Javier, should he prove trustworthy enough and/or the familia stick around long enough with Carley present, could probably sympathize with Lee hiding his past, given that it was ultimately an unsuccessful one that had him lose what he loved.
    • In regards to the kids, Gabe and Clementine could reinforce each other's desires to see their missing parent(s) again someday, for better or worse.
    • And Mariana's just happy to be there--nah, I'm kidding. Um...actually, no, that sounds fairly accurate. Having more kids around for her and Gabe to hang with off the road for a while would be nice, with the bonus of batteries for her walkman even.

Though, there's also the topic of the beartrap...honestly, if we're going by real time here, either Javier/Kate would be careful enough to be able to spot it or Javier/Gabe would be willing to help free Mr. Parker. Of course, that also begs the question of why the hell are they on the road for.

Plus, how many people would be able to come to dinner at the St. John's Dairy is further limited, meaning some people would have to either be left behind alongside Ben and Carley/Doug or find another spot to eat at. Gabe and Mariana would be likely to tag along for dinner, but Kate and Javier would probably wanna be there with them just in case.

  • Jesus christ you might as well be asking what if the season 2 crew had been competent. The story and outcomes would have been completely different in completely unpredictable ways. There's no way to know how anything would have turned out.

  • Lilly would have been pissed. Bringing one person back was too much for her much less four.

Lily and Larry would have still been mad at Lee for bringing new people in even if it was Javier and his family. Though I think would happen afterwards is Kate would stay in the Motor Inn to watch the place with Ben and Carley while Javier, Gabe and Mariana visit the St. John brother's farm with Lee and his group. Gabe and Mariana would befriend Clementine and Duck while Javier would help Lee with removing the walkers but Mark would still get hit and end up having his legs cut off. Javier could also help out by helping Lee and Danny hunt for bandits but Jolene would still die because of Danny trying to keep the secret that his family is planning to trade Lee's group off for meat. It would be interesting how Javier would deal with Andrew and Danny when they lock Lee's group in locker room with Gabe and Mariana locked in as well. Maybe Javier saves Larry by stopping Kenny from smashing Larry's head in with a brick and grabbing Danny's gun when Danny tries to shot Lee. After Kate will come in with Carley or Doug to check in and help the group. In the end Javier and his family would end up dramatized along with Lee's group but in relief that their still alive.

  • I think Larry was beyond saving at that point.

You understand that Gabentine would've happened much earlier than it actually did. Right? A lot of people would've been insta-triggered.
    "Hey, Gabe."
    "Huh?"
    "Come see what I drew."
    "Oh. Okay."
    [WARNING: GABENTINE IMMINENT!]

  • True.
