Christa will be returning, thanks to the power of plot armor, just like Kenny in Season Two. And the writers will do every single thing they can think of to convince the playerbase to side against her, just like Kenny in Season Two. =^)
They confirmed one or two returning characters! I personally think Lily will come back but who knows.
Except it would technically work better and be at least a margin more believable.
Okay, maybe not the whole "Veteran's [more of] a totally unlikable and dangerous asshole," but you know what I mean.
I highly doubt the returning character will be Lilly as there would be a lot of people who would still think that was the character from the comic. My guess it will be one of the characters from season 2.
I hope some of the Garcias would return like Gabe and/or Javi but I highly doubt they'll be in the final season considering the recent AMA.
Christa is gonna return and how she got out of that situation is going to be "Well, I got real lucky."
It could depend on what you choose during the game. I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if you get three choices, go back to the New Frontier (the Garcias), go further North (find Christa), or go somewhere else (find Lilly).
Jokes aside, I don't trust Telltale to do Christa any justice. That being said, IF she does returns, I'm siding with her on everything, the second she shows up.

Unfortunately, they kinda fucked their chances of properly returning up in part by making the former determinate.
More realistic than Kennu.
I honestly can't comment much on the matter aside from hoping to dear guudness she's not derailed into being a villain because fuck mother[-figure]s in this series.
