Why there is no US army activity in TWD world

I really wanted to know why there is no active army-controlled bases or armory-like places. Why characters always in desperation?Where the hell are the tanks, aircrafts, military vehicles?

  • Lee: Kenny! The zombies are running the army!

    Kenny: NOT THE ARMY!!!

  • The military KNOWS they can't fix that shit, and they're not about to give away all their MRE's to civilians. They're gonna shelter and preserve their own before anyone else.

  • Actually, I think people forget that the military was mentioned several times in S1. In the drugstore, the survivors think they hear the military, and the sounds confirm it if I can remember them correctly, and in episode 3, you find out how the airforce pilots all died, yeah ik not the same thing as army but whatever

This is actually a good question, Fear the Walking Dead probably gave us the closest experience to such an activity happening when it all began, (granted the military was losing by the end of season 1 and they were planning to slaughter entire sectors of their own civilians.) It would've been interesting if Season 1 of the game attempted to add some relative importance to the story since that's when the game began as well.

An example could have had the survivors searching for help by having Mark introduced at Warner Robins airforce base, and then proceeding with the time-jump or something like that.

I knew military alarm sound in the end of S1 E1 that even Mark've come from that. But there is no Army activity enough.

I am agree with you at this point. There could be time-jump that how did Motel Survivors intrduced with Mark or something like what you said.I am really considering at that point.

  • EXACTLY!!!! it's too big of a stretch to think there are no bases left, hell, the soldiers and marines would be the first to survive with the training and not to mention near unlimited weaponry and toughness and tanks,i think this is overlooked in the story sense because i don't think they would sit back in there bases while all this goes on for years, with the army Army being the most likely to survive and kids being probably the weakest chance.........................

  • You know, with at least David, Ava, and possibly Max being actual Soldiers, you'd think there would've been a little more army stuff within the New Frontier's arsenal.

  • They had tons of fully automatic weapons as well as tear gas...

  • Don't most bad guys though?
Tear gas is a frequent tool for the army?

  • Me when I realized keeping the reference line to Navy would've been much more fitting for Kenny

  • I think they avoid it because it's too hard to explain how zombies could defeat the military in the reality created in TWD. It's better they ignore stuff like how the military fell within a couple of weeks of the outbreak because it doesn't really make sense, but it had to happen to create the setting for the show. If small groups of random people with little training can survive then so would the military's of most countries.

I do think it would have made more sense if the virus itself was killing a large percentage of the population in the beginning to explain why everything broke down so fast, but I guess you can't get too logical when it comes to the threat of zombies lol

  • ...Wut?

The US Army is gone lol. By Season 1 the army was getting backed up and were losing. The Army was probably destroyed completely by mid Season 2 at the latest.

I just wanna know how the hell the Army lost. Walkers can die with one pistol shot to the head, and their gonna tell me that an army with helicopters, armored vehicles, assault weapons, and bombs couldn't kill them. To be honest, one group of survivors seem to have done more work than the Army did. All it looks like the Army did was destroy entire cities, taking out power lines, water supplies, and more essential things making it even harder for people to survive.

But to answer the question, the army is gone. There MIGHT be a few sections of the army left, but they have no chance of winning at this point unless they have some serious equipment.

I've heard a theory that the US might be the only country affected by this though. IF that rumor is correct then it's safe to assume that the Army abandoned the US and found shelter in another country.

For all we know, this could just be one gigantic plot hole in the entire Walking Dead universe.

  • I've heard a theory that the US might be the only country affected by this though. IF that rumor is correct then it's safe to assume that the Army abandoned the US and found shelter in another country.

That was something I considered being some exposition to explore when imagining possible plot points past Season 2.

  • I think you’re missing something: we don’t know that there are no military bases currently standing. We’ve just seen that the armed forces couldn’t contain the outbreak. It’s still entirely possible that there are multiple military bases out there in this universe.

  • The thing is that there are so many unanswered questions in the Walking Dead Universe. I'm surprised nobody's capitalized on this and made an open world Walking Dead game.

  • I thought it was noted in S1 that the military eventually collapsed.

Realistically there's not much the military could do when the entire world is technically infected. Not to mention that it is the possibility the military itself collapsed internally from infected.

  • That is the most plausible explanation.

  • in Night Of The Living Dead and Dawn Of The Dead you see the Army taking control, even if it's small pockets of towns, and in the end of NOTLD they completely take back control of the situation, that's what im saying ,there needs to be a end game in all this, a conclusion , BUT i don't think TT would be allowed to write this, because Kirkman will keep milking it( it's not even he's idea, stole it from Romero)

I think the Bossman or someone did a post about this a while back. I'll see if I can track it or a video of this info down.

    EDIT:Aaand here it is:

We've got what looks like a 10-91e (animal, bite) near Peachtree Exit of 285. All cars asked to keep on the lookout for a 91v (animal, vicious) in the area.

Be advised of medical personnel on route to Hartsfield, various 10's and 20's (code 10 and code 20, critical & acute trauma cases) coming in.

Riot in progress. All officers are available for incoming 217's (assault with intent to murder). Rolling calls and dispatches to all locations.

Be advised, we have a 10-55 (coroner case) DUI (driving under influence) reported--

    The Edit button exists.

Anyway, it's not actual animals--just speculation on the Police Officer's part about a walker bite. You know, unless the virus really did originate from an animal.

  • It happens in every goddamn zombie story. Military can't do shit because they only do it when the plot demands it.

  • Every country in the world is affected by the zombie apocalypse. In fact, most other countries falsely assume that America is the least affected and may have a cure and as a result tons of people are trying to immigrate there.

  • This. We all know that in real life zombies would lose very quickly, but you know, the zombies are what make this what it is. The Last of Us is a great example, in my mind, of a more realistic (not too realistic though) scenario of the military in an apocalypse.

On other thoughts, I've been hoping that some Walking Dead story explores a remnant of the military (NOTE: I've only read up to A Certain Doom, so no comic spoilers after it). I think it be cool to have some base up north (kind of like in War for the Planet of the Apes), or maybe a naval warship adrift at sea. Could be some cool stuff done there. Maybe they're the type of group that "cleanses" the Earth by burning everything. And everyone.
