I think that Lee could have a kid if his wife did not tell him about it. Some women do want the father around the child because they think he could be a bad influence. Lee could've had a kid with his wife and never been told about that is not unbelievable. We do not know when or how long Lee's marriage had been going bad but it's safe to assume his wife was cheating on him for a short while as Lee states that he knew about the affair and also states that he caught them while driving back from work because he felt sick. So maybe Lee got her pregnant and his wife did not want Lee to be the father so she cheated on him to let the senator and Lee think it was the senator's child.
My marriage to my kids' mom was pretty rocky but we'd still fuck somewhat regularly AND she was cheating on me at the same time lol.
