So far the end result was always the same in the walking dead only because it otherwise would have been too difficult for them to keep creating more and more different variations of episodes or entire seasons, for each critical choice you've made in the past. But since s4 is the final season, they can easily make a very wide variety of choices for an ending.
Oh she's dead, anyone who says otherwise is deluding themselves. There may be some variations in how she dies but the end result will be the same for everyone.
And the most respectful way to wave goodbye to the end of an era is to end on a good note while giving the lead the respect they deserve. In this case it is Clementine. She doesn't need to be referred as the mascot by us fans to be the company mascot. The company mascot is usually a character who brought the company lots of success and recognition. For Telltale to kill off their Company Mascot, someone who played a major part in their success and rise to the top would be disrespectful to the Story and to Clementine.
Yeah it's clear TT are tired of TWD at this point. They want to move on to the other licenses and in general want to move on as a company. I… moren a way this season is a goodbye letter to a TT era.
They're very adamant about this being the FINAL season.
I don't believe they care that Clem is their so-called "mascot" character, they've had no qualms announcing that after this season Clementine will never appear or exist again. She's effectively dead if she does survive the finale.
It will be up to the player, aka, you cant be mad at telltale for killing cem as you made the decision, kinda like Life is strange episode 5 you chose to kill chloe or sacrifice the town, you can't be mad at the game for killing chloe as you made that choice yourself
I thought so too but this interview by Brodie Anderson about the writing process for TFS is very interesting.

_"We started with the ending and we decided it would take four episodes to get to that," Andersen teased. "There's going to be a variety of avenues throughout the season... [but we] won't ever make the player feel like they got the bad ending to the story, it's your ending."

They started with the ending? What an interesting process. (As opposed to S2 and S3 which were clearly written as they went along.)
Telltale must have no doubts about making sure this is the absolute end for Clementine's story.
Notice, he doesn't specify "we started with multiple endings", just "the" ending. That "they're's going to be a variety of avenues throughout the season" but apparently not for the ending.

The mascots that I have in mind are the mascots due to them being an integral part of the most successful game/series that the company has produced. SEGA don't experiment with hedgehogs to turn its skin colour blue nor does Nintendo specialise in plumbing (Apologies for the bad jokes by the way)
Also watch her facial expressions when she is listening to banter...she rolls her eyes or how she takes praise and flattery. I will say this...they do leave a bit open because unlike say a book...she is your character so they leave it up for your interpretation at times.
So, a Straight Man and a Vanilla Protagonist?
No wonder she wasn't clocking much of anything in to me.
Mm...I suppose you can read that kinda stuff that way, somewhat.
Really, I'm referring to how important and fleshed out she is within the narrative, which outside of maybe the card game(which is mostly irrelevant backstory and trivia), she's just kinda the audience surrogate with little hard characterization right now.

So you need to watch her face...her body language...when Violet came to get the art supplies and they both sat and talked to each other...the look on Clem's face cried out how much she enjoyed talking to someone her own age and how she followed Violet out of the room with her gaze....she did not want that contact to end. Clem is hungry....not just for affection as the horn dogs on the forum love to say...but for genuine conversation from people her own age.
As much as she is a mother figure, Clem is still a child in many ways as well as a hard boiled adult...she needs people and I have to commend the art and animation department for delivering.
Also Sarah deserved better.

That's exactly how I feel. This Season is more of a goodbye season for Clementine so they can focus on other projects with being bothered by people asking for another season

Thank You! Honestly people complain about predictable if she's dead. Honestly its more predictable if she lives. That's so unrealistic like no one can escape death during apocalypse. You either die sooner or later.
The Walking Dead is a grim series not a happy one. Everyone is not going to end happily. Their time will come eventually.
Keeping her alive wouldn't make sense since its not like they'll find a permanent home and it would leave the series open. There would be no end.
I can't lie I think it's about time for Clem to die. She's more than pushed her luck for so long for her age. It's the most real story endin… moreg they can do. Her surviving yet again is what's most predictable since that has already happened three times. And here would be a fourth. Why couldn't Lee get multiple endings where he lives and dies if that's the case? I would of liked seeing Lee in some plauthroughs atleast for an episode or two season two. Folks are just attached to Clem and any irrational survival fear she does is perfectly normal for her age and can live up to age 60 in that world apparently. I'm not indenial and I can accept a Clementine death ? but not really another happy picnic on the beach ? type of surviving ending which only creates more open ended story breaches for her to come back. And if so may as well do another fifth season with her.
Well personally, I’m under the assumption that because this is the FINAL SEASON that there will be multiple endings, to an extent— because they don’t have to have our choices transfer over to anywhere after this, they don’t need to continue the story and account for different outcomes because there IS no after this story.
People making the argument that if Clem dies it will be a conclusion to the story for good are not accounting for AJ, who’s to say we can’t continue the story with HIS story, like we did with Clem!
The truth is there is NO way to end the story for good unless Clem and AJ both die, or outlive the apocalypse and everything gets cured— but the latter won’t happen. So therefore the ending has to be open-ended to some degree, and I think the best way will be for Clem and/or AJ to join a thriving society— where their safety will be guaranteed, for now, and leave what happens after up for the player to decide in their mind.
Your welcome! Happily ever after type of endings only work for normal worlds with minimal danger without horrors witnessed weekly. How can grownups that are stronger and smarter than Clem get killed off, yet she does not? Likewise for almost every other child near her age always dying. Walking Dead is a horror show first then everything else after. Horror isn't suppose to have happy endings that often. Clem is supposed to get the most fucked type of scenario to deal with at the end that they can come up with.

Exactly! I felt like that she's been escaping death for too long. There have been some cases where she honestly should have died (Remember when she got shot by Arvo and somehow, she miraculously survived a bullet shot?) Like you said, How is it that the adults get killed off that quick but yet a child seems to always make it out as the sole survivor? That makes no sense and its pretty unrealistic.

Story-wise, I don't mind her dying in the last episode. I just don't want her to die for the wrong reasons, like for example, just for the sake of having a Lee parallel or just wrapping up her story in the easiest way possible.
If her death serves a greater purpose and is really well done and with reason, then fuck it. Go for it. Just make sure it's the correct course of action. If her staying alive is the better course of action story-wise, then go for that instead.
Regardless of what they do, I'm just hoping they don't generally fuck up the finale.
I'll be mad as hell if they kill her off, straight up. Not a very good way to end things after nearly 6 years of investment in this story on my end. I'd prefer something that feels rewarding with emotional pay off, it doesn't need to be a happily ever after, but it also doesn't need to end with her dying to be a good story, find a good in between.
I was scared on how they could end Clementines story, because i was affraid that they would do the easiest thing and just kill her off. TV-Show writers have the tendency to kill off characters whose character-arcs just concluded, because they don't know what to do with these characters anymore. Sometimes they even do it before the end of an arc, to shock the audience. The TWD TV-Show had and still has that kind of problem.
But i'm feeling really optimistic about it after I finished the second season of Batman yesterday. Both seasons are written by the same team, which are James Windeler as the season lead-writer, Michael Kirkbride as the season lead designer and Kent Mudle as the creative director. There are obviously many more awesome people who make the games that we love, but i'm just going to limit it to the season leads who may have direct influence on the story. All three of them were also the season leads of Batman: Season Two.
The thing I absolutely love about Batman: Season Two - specifically - is the way the whole season was plotted. They set up characters, locations, motivations and storylines in the first episode that get huge pay-offs in the later episodes. It feels like one cohesive vision; from beginning to end. It didn't just felt like a "good videogame story", but like a legitimate great story for a tv show. Set-up, build-up and pay-off was key and it culminated in one my favorite final episodes(villain) ever, right there with Borderlands and TWD:S1. It just felt super satisfying because it was envisioned from the beginning and i don't feel like that after many of Telltale's games. Even their arguably best game - Tales from the Borderlands - suffered a little from dropped ideas and sudden changes of storylines. (It's still the best.)
With these creative leads being now in charge of the ending of Clementines story makes me really excited. Batman S2 was a slow burn and TFS seems to be similar. It starts off rather slow but it sets up a lot of things for future episodes. With them also saying, that they actually started plotting with the ending in mind makes me even more optimistic that they could pull it off.

It also explains why Brody and most of the other characters are incredibly underdeveloped--wait.
Mind linking this in the details thread or wherever else it'd go as well?
I thought a Mascot is typically just the character that a company likes to show off as a representation of what they do?

I think you just like to nitpik
Eh, not really, but if it's easier to look at it that way for the moment, go ahead.
Either way, it partially comes down to me not caring too much and thus just going by what I see and think.

No proof but it's a much stronger theory.
there is no proof, most here are going by logic, rehashing S1s ending is a weak move
Plenty of stories have ended by doing a thematic callback.
