Melee island or another familiar island?

edited September 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Anybody else hoping for melee island or another island previously in the series? Don't get me wrong I love exploring new islands that are original ideas but I kind of want to see a familiar island for nostalgias sake even if were only there for a short stay. I personally would like to see the return of melee island to see how it would look with more detailed graphics and wondering if the Scummbar came back after what happened to it in Escape from Monkey Island.

I would like to see the return of LeChuck's fortress, not too sure where that is exactly...
    But also Monkey Island :D
    Maybe Scabb too.

I think everyone is cheering for Monkey Island lol.

Yes, I think that would be good! I'd love to see an island from one of the first three games in TOMI graphics!

Other than Monkey Island of course, I want Blood Island the most!

Scabb/Phatt/Booty would be interesting too, but Melee was revisited in detail in EMI so not necessary now.

Please no. The Monkey Island appearance in Escape was a little pointless, but that was nothing compared to what they did to Melee, my favourite island. The mysterious, piratey, eerily quiet Carribean town with its creepy forests and lonely cottages was replaced with a rather dull town filled with politicians, darts players and painters.

The thing is, The Secret of Monkey Island nailed the atmospheres of Melee and Monkey so well that any return would simply not live up to the original. The same applies to Scabb, Plunder, Blood, Dinky, LeChuck's Fortress, the ghost ship, possibly even Booty.

If there's any island I'd like to revisit, it would be Phatt. It was set up as this seedy, corrupt place, a totalitarian dictatorship. But what did we get? After being arrested at the beginning, we see no sign of Phatt's enforcers again, and his only other appearance is when you steal one of his books. Instead we get fishermen and librarians (and the admittedly pretty cool gamblers), and the only other thing on the island is Rum Rogers' cottage. I'd love to return to see a true dictatorship, a place where you really need to watch your back.

Wow, the first person in history to have crtiicisms against Mi-4's Melee island that don't manifest in graphical concerns. AMAZING I'm honored to meet you, I've always been annoyed by the slams because the game had an over all visual style...

Someone should make a poll of "WHICH islands you'd like to see return"! I would but I've already made too many polls.

LOL Don't look towards me, Tales is sick of my polls, they closed a few of them because it limits discussion and puts all the focus on polls. :)

Haha, no, not necessarily yourself. Somebody other than me though because I've posted my fair share of polls in the past few days!

if they are in their original glory then yes (or at least with the same layout and places to visit), but not redone in a way that only the name and color scheme are the same

Only if they were faithful and had a purpose, and by faithful, I mean not like Escape, where half of Melee Island vanished into thin air, which honestly, I'm still questioning to this day where the forests, Captain Smirk's house, the bridge, the lookout points and Half of Melee Town got to. But the music for Melee Island had some nice throwback creepy feeling, espeically Talking with Carla & Otis, that sad song is just calming and fits Melee island so well.

If I'm honest, there's a few islands I'd LIKE to see back but really, deep down, I know it wouldn't be the same, I mean, Blood Island was such a perfect place, the atmosphere, feeling, the history, music and mainly the art style, how could Blood Island be done without Bill Tiller?

As far as I see it, the forests ARE there. I mean, on a mpa, what people can see as simple grass, is pretty much a forest. It's like that on Lucre Island map, for example. After all, EfMI maps ARE much more stylized. And on original Melee Map you don't really recognize forests, also. Now, the lookout point, Smirk's house, all that - if it's not showed on the map doesn't mean it's not there. It's a, well, map. The ONLY real question is (even I, who likes EfMI, asks myself): why Governor's mansion and ex-stan's shipyard changed positions so drastically (alright, governor's mansion - not so drastically, but stan's shipyard - that just is on the other side of the island in EfMI)?

I liked the maps in Escape, they were really cool.

Everyone loves the maps. That's why we all went "Ooooo" when Flotsam island zoomed out, even though it didn't have the fine details of the earlier maps.

Hopefully that will change in later eps, with cooler, more varied maps. Although spinner cay was pretty cool admittedly, I liked the island select map, even though the islands were tiny and had nothing to do on em.

I wonder if they will make a map for Lair of the Leviathan? They probably will.

    Anyway, back on topic.

Monkey Island will return, although I doubt any others will. Still, Guybrush's trial and execution could take place on Melee. And his execution/punishment for unleashing a voodoo plague (as well as him being inevitable tricked/framed by LeChuck, eg Lechuck destroying the sponge or using it for evil..) is banishment to Monkey Island.

Crap, may have just guessed the ending there.

Yeah, banish Guybrush to an Island he's escpaed from many times before, this isn't Pirates of the Caribbean you know! :p

I'd like to see an old island but I'm not sure if they are going to do it, not in this season. I think if any old island pops up it will be good old Monkey. It has been in every game thus far (if you go by the CMI continuity, which states that
LeChuck's Carnival of the Dammed was actually on Monkey and Dinky is connected to Monkey via a series of underground tunnels. That also explains how Herman Toothrot got to Dinky ;))

I'm a little concerned actually. After episode 3 I'm predicting that the rest of the series will be recycled to an extent. I'm pretty sure Ep4 will be back on Flotsam and that court house will be the main new location. Can't say much for the final episode but I'm slighty concerned that we've covered all the islands on ******** map.
  • edited September 2009
Really, I don't think we will have to see many old islands. Flotsam again? maybe. I still think we got at least one new island coming.
  • edited September 2009
There's still the Rock of Gelato.
  • edited September 2009
Yes, but I had enough of Melee.
  • edited September 2009
I wouldn't mind seeing Melee done PROPERLY in the next season that TellTale does.

Frankly I would really like to see Woodtick

    hmm... or Plunder

*sings* Plunder Plunder, how I wonder, how'd ya get so doggone pretty?!

MORE SONGS TELLTALE, best part of CMI was the musiccc

They still have plenty of locations they could go
wherever the Manatee took them, or even still in the Manatee,
The Rock of Gelato, back to Flotsam and maybe even Monkey Island will show up (big maybe though.) That's enough locations for the three remaining Chapters.

I liked the first island in Curse. What was it called?

Also, the one in MI2 where a
    post boat
    should've arrived, a
    spitting contest
occured and where you got an
    outfit for a costume party
.. what was that one called?

I don't think spoilers are really necessary. The game is almost 18 years old now. :D

The islands you are after are Plunder & Booty.

Heheh! Well, I thought, maybe someone who's playing MI2 for the first time will read this post and get very angry with me :P

    Thanks for the facts! :)

I'm sure there are plenty of people playing MI2 for the first time, or haven't yet played it and plan to. ToMI isn't just bringing old fans back, it's introducing new ones.

Blood or Plunder island, please? *angel face*
