How would things be different if Javi was here?
I know Telltale told us that the Garcia's won't be in this season, but I can't help but wonder how things would be different if they were. In my game Javi and Gabe were the sole survivors, and to be honest I wouldn't mind them being here. There'd be no Gabentine shit but I feel like they'd pull their weight, especially Javi when it comes to using walkers as batting practice or shooting raiders. I can't even begin to imagine how fun the new combat system would be if we controlled Javi with his bat.
Anyways, I know a lot of people hate the Garcia's but for the sake of discussion how do you think the current events of TFS would be affected by the presence of the Garcia family?

I believe Javi and Gabe would be utilized far better here than presented in ANF for one. In Javier's case, the thing that separates him from Lee and Clementine as TWD MC's is that he's less of a tragic/redemption hero and more of an action hero. I could definitely see Javi putting in work against the raiders. Abel is a tough sonuvabitch, but he couldn't even beat a teenage girl and a small boy. Javi would decimate Abel. If he's with them, I don't even think the raiders get 2 out of the 3 kids they got.
It's hard for me to see what Gabe can do though, only because ANF didn't give a lot to go on in that aspect. But I know he'd be utilized better if only by a little bit.
I'm indifferent towards the Garcias, but Javier I really really liked. To the point where I'm very disappointed we likely won't be seeing him at all. I still feel like it was somewhat of a mistake to move away ENTIRELY from their story.
I'm sorta neutral on Javier in general, but I generally already had a rule/game plan in mind regarding how/if Gabe should be used a recurring character that I don't know if it could be bended.
I know Gabe didn't do much but (in my ending at least) he ended up maturing a lot and it was clear that he wasn't the same stupid boy that he was throughout much of the season. I would trust him to help defend the boarding school and I don't even think he would get salty over Clem getting involved with someone other than him. The kid gets a lot of hate but he ends up redeeming himself in most of the endings.
Care to share that rule/game plan?
Definitely true. Never hated Gabe, but didn't love him. He was fine for most of it. My only true problem with him lies in Thicker Than Water, but other than that, he's fine in my book. I don't exactly see him taking command, and I don't think he's supposed to. But I do believe he'd do a much better job following the instructions given to him now as opposed to Richmond.
By the end of ANF I honestly saw him as the Carl to Javier's Rick. He was still in a position to learn and help but not necessarily a position to lead.
The general idea was that once ANF was over, Gabe and/or the audience would essentially be given a break for a good while(read: at least a good year or so in-universe at the earliest) so things could return to the main story and whatever it brings as expected. Then, should Telltale ever get the idea/incentive to bring him/the Garcias back and/or return to New Richmond in Season 6 or whatever, they would have that grace period and planning stage to go back over what was done with him in ANF, review what the general consensus/criticism was about his character back then, and take that into account while crafting how to reintroduce and adjust his character.
For example, in looking back at just how the "Gabentine" nonsense dominated the climate around his character's view(s) amongst the fanbase, they could take the opportunity to introduce a number of other youths within New Richmond he may befriended over the year(s). One of the more noticeable one would be including a girl around his age that, while [hopefully] not necessarily being intended to be a love interest, could basically act as a visual deterrence from that previous train of thought, making it so the people who were [still] really worried about that old joke for whatever reason could just relax since he's "taken."
Part of this has to do with how [emotionally] obsessed people were with him, but the real reason is simply that Gabe, unlike Clementime, actually has a place and number of people he can call home after completely his initial story/character arc and therefore, makes perfect sense to just put on a bus, at least for a while. That, plus how simply complicated his characer was, is reinforcing the fact that he didn't really need to have that big of a presence/role in regards to the series itself--he could just be a semi-notable supporting character from a glorified spinoff.
Keeping in mind that this was something I thought of before Thicker than Water and/or especially From the Gallows came out, of course.
That's kinda my thought as well.
