    no it doesn't.
  • edited September 2009
Yes it does. I wouldn't want a MI game to be like this, but I still think this is a great job by whoever made it.

    ^^what is wrong with you?

    that is absolutely incredible

Lets get this guy hired by telltale for the next season. I wouldn't personally allow the first person look for much if I were them, but I would LOVE for the next MI game / season to have those graphics
  • edited September 2009
I never liked the lighting in the cryengine.

Just one problem: There are even enough people that have problems running ToMI. Guess how many more would not be able to play the game when it has this engine...

    Well it still looks awesome

    wow.

For any other game yes. But I don't want a Monkey Island game to look like this.
I hate the water, I hate the lighting. The models are okayish.
It still doesn't look like Monkey Island or anything I would like to play. Even if I had the PC to run this.

Maybe not the best choice o flook for Monkey Island, but I have to admit that it looks awesome. Great job

The guy who puts this stuff together is a cool guy. He's working at Crytek on one of their upcoming projects, and does all this Monkey 2 stuff to screw around. It looks great.
  • edited September 2009
    Cool! That's very interesting.

I thought it looked very professional.
  • edited September 2009
I hope LA looks at that dude's work and process for re-creating the old art if/when they do Monkey Island 2 SE, so we don't have a repeat of the terrible art in MI:SE
  • edited September 2009
    That looks fantastic.

Makes me want to cry because of its awesomeness..... Obviously the first person aspect would never work in a MI game but those backgrounds are so perfect it melted my eyes.

    Someone's a little over-emotional...

Although I think in this instance it is not altogether unexpected

I'm thinking the Nano Muscle Suit may unbalance the game. Where's the fun in Insult Sword Fighting when you have a stealth kill option?

Looks perfect for it to me. Full of wonderful atmosphere. Its essentially a 3D CMI in style.

Of course, the first person set up wouldn't work but thats surely just for demonstration purposes.
  • edited September 2009
Wow. That was great. The atmosphere was spot on. I liked the little creative touches he added for his own humor, like a chicken for a weapon. Pretty cool.

I'd love to have a multiplayer Monkey Island map in a FPS!
  • edited September 2009
So. Who shall open an account for donations so that TT can afford the CryEngine and hire him? :D If everyone donates like 50000$ I'm sure we can do it!
  • edited September 2009
nice atmosphere but first-person projections makes me dizzy.

never been able to play one without getting real bad motion sickness

Curse was the epitome of Monkey graphics. Excellent. Like to see more of that.

Looks like someone just outdid the super uber edition of Mi2.

    Oh wait same guy.

    Why am I not surprised.

That's pretty awesome. It wouldn't work for MI, but would make an awesome level in a FPS.

I think that's all we can hope for, it would be pwnage.
  • edited September 2009
If only, but obviously it would be a demanding little cookie of a game. And we could kiss those budget price tags for the re-releases away, but a guy can dream can't he?
  • edited September 2009
It does make me wish for a 3D Telltale Tool-based MI2 remake. It's a cool demonstration.
The Cryengine looks like those heavy, high-poly, bloom & bump-mapping eye-candy that makes most computers choke.
  • edited September 2009
Very pretty, but not the way for MI.
  • edited September 2009
    That's amazing!

    1:40. :D

The Crysis demo ran surprisingly well on my machine, and I never had much of a hardcore gaming card... that was two years ago. You can do much better than that with even less money now. A couple years down the road engines like these will be defacto standard anyway - and even bog standard laptops will be able to cope.

Good work this. Was this really put together by one guy alone? Wonder how long it took.

People say this guy is better than Telltale, but I ask you this.

When can we expect to see some character models? Then I'll take this stuff as a serious alternative for MI, but until then I'm not convinced.

He is not under any deadlines or being paid for his work, so he can do as much as he wants in as high of quality as he wants without anyone above him saying "speed it up, deadline's a-comin'"

Given an unlimited amount of time and resources (and CryEngine 2), I'm sure Telltale could come up with something as good as/better than this guy.

However, that's not to say that this isn't some damn fine work, because it is.

I especially like when he throws the frog :D

This is one hell of a great presentation! I hope he'll continue with this project.

As for this being a real MI game- agree with those who say CryEngine lightning is just too "realistic". I much prefer more stylized graphics (in style of The Wind Waker or TMI). Which doesn't mean, I'd complin if there would be even a few more polygons ;)
  • edited September 2009
I'm actually really surprised at how much the CryEngine could be used to make something that looked SO much like Monkey Island. I don't see why people are complaining at all about this, it's a fun art project on the side. Even if it wasn't, it looks impressive enough that I'd sure as hell give it a try. All the locations look absolutely stunning.
  • edited September 2009
That looks great, wow! But then again, my computer is already struggling with running ToMI as it is...
  • edited September 2009
Guys, I think you'r missing the point.
That guy used cryengine coz he works at crytek, MI does not use photorealism, whole charmo of MI games is in thoes hand painted style graphics. I bet that even Blender's game engine would do awsome job... and it's free. This movie looks so cool not becouse of cryengine, it's so cool coz of cool design ang MI style graphics.
  • edited September 2009
It's just cool cos it's 3D Monkey Island, and this video is playable.

It doesn't matter what engine it is, but Crytek makes it look cool. The lighting is cool.

And I am gonna play this map on multiplayer. Once I find my crysis discs again, and hook up some green cordial as coolant to my computer.

I would say that MI 1 and MI 2 had environments that really did remind me of this though. Even CMI which was cartoony with perspective slightly reminded me of this. EMI went off the deep end with cartoony to make up for the limited capabilities of the time, and TMI looks great but is just a little too young for my tastes.
  • edited September 2009
I like it; I'd rather play it than the real MI2, to be honest.

Graphically I would suggest that this was worlds beyond TOMI. However that engine as of yet doesn't work for the application, thus in general can't be considered better.

I really want a revamped MI2, this shows how it CAN be done. the atmosphere was spot on if you ask me, of course 1st person would have to go. Way to make it easy! show them we can have our MI2 cake and eat it too!
