Anyway, I am starting to see a real pattern here. So far all the people who prefer chapter 3 over chapter 2 are part of the "younger" generation. People who are in their teens or getting close to being 20.
The people who prefer chapter 2 over chapter 3 are the "older" generation, above 25 and such.

I'm 27 and I prefer Chapter 3 greatly, and not for the reasons you state but for the following:

    1) It seems more polished - there's more attention paid to the moment to moment action with nice touches like the credits sequence to let us know they care.

    2) I think it has more interesting puzzles. Chapter 2 had nothing to equal the chair puzzle in Chapter 1 in my opinion, but 3 has several contenders.

    3) I enjoyed Chapter 2 but it was not very economical in its design. For example, there were those small islands, which only really existed to make the finding-the-chest style puzzle work. And there was the jungle maze, which only really existed to make the turtle puzzle work. This made the game feel more sprawled out than it really needed to be. By contrast the 3rd chapter was very smartly designed, with a few locations. And, for example, this time the tubes that acted as a method of transportation not only facilitated puzzles but also cut down the amount of travelling needed. That's very good design economy, making me feel that everything was where and when it was for a reason. This adds to the 'polished' feel of the game too.

    4) I just prefer the writing, and many other little things.

only one day and three pages allready. Do you write in here during your work hours?

    1) I did not plan to insult anybody, 'mislead sheep' is just a christian methaphore and is the opposite of good, well-behaving sheep, not of a shepherd or any other sort of human being. It was more of a joke, I just wanted to state my opinion, since I was eager to get my hands on ch. 2 and was fairly disappointed. I love Telltale from the bottom of my heart, which is the reason, why I kept my mouth shut. After I peeked at the discussions ch. 2 vs 3, I opened this forum, to state the facts, as I see them. For a sane and reasonable person it is clear, that you don't have to repead in "my opinion", "as I see things", "as it appears to me" and such, if you critisize something. Something is never good or bad to the universe, only to you. So please no more "that is your opinion, but I have an opinion too", I know that allready. Therefore 2).

    2) everyone, who felt insulted is a Caspar Milquetoast.

    3) I'm 25, so I guess I still am part of the younger crowd, but am playing adventure games for the last, don't know, 15 ? years, I've even played Discworld, I even tried to solve it without walkthrough, of course I did not succeed, everyone who can do that is a psychopathological maniac (again not meaning to insult people, that is a plain fact). I'm a guy by the way, can't you see the picture? And I'm a duke, not a dude.

    4) The fact, that a joke refers to an older game, doesn't make it a good joke. Only for the people, that feel proud, they are old enough to have played that game. And by the way, the music of Guybrush descending into the mating grounds in chapter three was the funniest refference to an older MI so far.

    5) What is the "cookie" joke? Seems I have lost the best joke so far...

    6) anything else? I think not. Oh yes Ceterum censeo, that chapter three way better is, that chapter two.

Wasn't the cookie mentioned in both chapter 2 and 3? Guybrush asks for one in chapter 2 and gets refused, then when he finds the seahorse head his response is "oo cookie".

    It's "oo, sea biscuit"

I, for eample, liked much the second, for its huge locations, things that the third chapter doesn't have. And I don't think to be strange, or with bad tastes. Or yes?

I found Chapter 2 the weakest of the 3 so far but its humor appeals to a different sort of person. I certainly wouldn't think of them as "misled sheep." I gotta go with Iron Curtain on this one.

Part of me wonders what the point is in ordering the chapters. At the end of the day, they've all been enjoyable, funny, and brainworking. I don't think anyone could dispute that, so why call one the 'worst'? If you look through all the Faulty Towers episodes, there has to be a 'worst' one, but it feels weird to call it that because they all rocked.
The same thing happens with EMI.
Yes, it was the worst, but also, I cannot think of a more enjoyable game that came out that year?

I agree that Chapter 2 is the weakest yet, but I don't agree with any of your points why. It's simply, for me, that I enjoyed Chapter 3 more. It was the freshest of them all. Chapter 2 copied a little bit of elements from Chapter 1. But even that wasn't bad. I just had a lot more fun interacting and solving puzzles in Chapter 3 than any other yet. It was just really well-done.

Also I guess you're right. Mermaids just don't fit in to the piratey-ness that is Monkey Island do they?
Even though Mermaids are a part of Pirate stories and such.

3-2-1 for me too, which is an excellent sign!

I'm 30 by the way so the Age-related-episode-favouritism theory isn't very accurate.

I take that back. I think Dominic could actually play Guybrush better. They even look kinda similar.

He might have to drop a few times, all that fine cusine over the years has padded our Dom into a cuddly bear :), either way I really couldn't see anyone but Mr Armato giving us the Guybrush we know and love myself

I must say I find this thread very unneccessary. It´s like trying to pick on the people (including me) that do prefer chapter 2 like they were stupid. No reason to open a thread for it when the chapters have their own topics anyway.

So, I repeat why I prefer chapter 2:

-I found it harder than chapter 3. Chapter 3 was a breeze, you got the objects quickly (because of the limited locations) and the solutions were pretty obvious.

-chapter 2 had more excitement, with the siege and all.

-I think the dialogues were funnier in chapter 2, at least for my taste. Seeing LeChuck trying to figure out the puzzle was hilarious.

Chapter 3 was very nice in its own right, but it just didn´t give me the same kick chapter 2 did. And everyone should respect that subjective preferences are not debateable.

Overall, it is quite an accomplishment for ttg, that there seems to be no chapter having the clear lead; obviously each one is attractive to many fans and offers those who felt something was lacking in one chapter in another one. That is just a testament to how great the series really is.

    My list goes 2>3>1
