They're 3 seperate games all accessable from the main menu, the first two aren't really shined up at all graphically either, it really does show, but as always the gameplay shines through. Multiplayer in Echoes is still there as well, no online functionality though.
As for the fancy schmancy online features, I honestly couldn't tell you, most of the Wii's online stuff outside of Mario Kart for it's simplicity really doesn't interest me to be honest, there is some sort of vouchery friend thingamabob in there though, sorry couldn't be any more help
Nah, thats allright, you gave me quite the insight. To be honest, I was just as adept at using the Gamecube controller than the controls for Metroid 3. I might just wait for Metroid: Other M instead. (Though its made by Team Ninja so theres still the chance that they'll have Zero Suit Samus with sharp facial features, huge, swaying heaving chest and flat feet.)
This is why I have held off on the wii... always struck me as odd that Twilight Pincess is basically the same game (minus controls) for the wii... I actually preferred the extra camera control on the gamecube. Then I noticed the metroid trilogy in my local shop yesterday(and I gather they havent really reduxed the original 2 cube games for the wii as all). Price for 3 games was great, but still... where are the new exclusive games? I am one of the few people who sadly doesn't think motion control is enough to sell a console to me

Twilight Princess was kindve just.. bad for me, in that respect. I got it on the Gamecube not expecting to get the wii and went right through it, gorgeous. And correct, map-wise. Kakariko was to the East, the desert to the West and a left handed Link. But since more people are right handed they flipped it for the Wii.. I dont mean Link, they flipped the game. Desert to the East, Villiage, Death mountain and graveyard to the West, and I spent twice as long finishing it on the Wii because I was too used to going to the left in the original and forgetting to head right instead. (It also actually gave me a headache sometimes, it made me think that the whole left/right side of the brain was off kilter now, it just didn't seem right.)
As for new releases, its been pretty quiet there. Like I said earlier, Metroid Other M and a later Zelda is coming but so's Christmas. Wii Fit Plus and so on are the market money makers now - Nintendo has successfully turned a games machine into an everyday utility. As for game-games though, im waiting for Ghostbusters for it. (Its the same stylised version from the PS2 but I dig how you need to swing the nunchuck to drop the trap, heh.)
Motion control is fun but not needed. Ive got maybe 3 games on PS3 that use the Sixaxis and I turn that feature off. =/
I think with PS3 and XBox360 bringing out their own motion controllers soon, the wii will be kind of redundant. I ike the concept of the wii, but the execution annoys me. I feel it has dumbed down games whilst maximising profits.
Some of the games look like free games I play online using flash player. The only USP is the actual controls. This allows games that cost hardly anything make a profit and then some. That is why there are so many wii games. I know that suits the casual gamer (or even non-gamer) but for me, when I play a PS3 exclusive, like Metal Gear Solid 4, I never feel ripped off. Same with Uncharted 2, out next week.
My gf would disagree though. Shes a clever girl though, should work for nintendo! The wii is a cheap, clever way to bide your time and make a fortune. I just miss the great 1st party games and innovation though and I still think the gamecube was a far beter 'gamers' console.
The one thing I'll hand the Wii is it still has the classics, those characters and stories that you play as kids and grow up enjoying. Super Mario Galaxy is probably the very best game on the system, no wonder its getting a sequal. Even Mario Kart Wii, Im a guy who doesnt like racing games, I prefer story and content, but that game is just beautiful.
As for 360's motion controls, Im a little iffy on that subject. The whole Project Natal is something that as a kid I wouldve dreamed of, but as an adult I look at now and think "Wow, I really am a Generation away". Things like haviung aboy scan a photo of his skateboard and then sliding his foot back and forth to make the virtual skateboard in the game move struck me as "Hey.. why doesn't he just go skateboarding for real?"
Totally agreed. But then again, this is why I fall out with all my rock band gamer friends. I may be sh*t at guitar... but I'd rather muck about on a real one than spend even MORE money on a fake plastic one, to pretend I can play amazing by following coloured prompts on sceen. Just feels odd to me and not much of a game. But I know I am being a party pooper there!

Eh, we're just old, hah. I saw abuse on Youtube once when a pink haired punk girl of about 16 went all out on some guitar hero song and someone commented that if she spent as much time on a real guitar, people might just submit movies of her playing a gig than herself with a splitscreen of her tv and webcam. And let me tell you, that 16 year old could swear so well until Youtube deleted her comments.
Meh, I guess as good as all this new stuff is, it does have consequences! I am always glad I got into the adventure game scene from a young age. I think it makes me picky about games, in a good way. For example, Uncharted 2. Great graphics and gameplay. But for me, it will be the storyline. It is giving me the great script and story of an adventure game, but still giving me the childish thrills of shooting baddies and blowing stuff up. The latter without the former is lapped up far too much, and I HATE it.
And THEN my wallet (and Manny Calevera tattoo) tingle upon realising that Brutal Legend is out next week too! I hope they both do very well.
But for me, it will be the storyline. It is giving me the great script and story of an adventure game, but still giving me the childish thrills of shooting baddies and blowing stuff up. The latter without the former is lapped up far too much, and I HATE it.
I hear that. For me, I was sold when I played the Ghostbusters demo for the PS3. (A bit different from the cool Uncharted but bear with me, lol). I was made in the 80's for lack of a better term, and growing up they were what I wanted to be the most. Spiffy uniforms, well known, heroes to their citizens, very slick high tech weapons and backpacks and very catchy, rhythmic theme songs. Of course ghosts wernt real so I wanted to be an actor instead. (Thats a different and much less interesting story.)
The Ghostbusters game, writtain by Dan and Harold, featuring their likenesses, original actors and innovative dialogue, theyre atmospheres and effects were a love letter, a kiss, to fans of the movies. Now, when I feel silly I'll slip an old Evil dead game into my old PS2 and have fun slicing up zombies while hearing Bruce Campbell crack wise, but theres a whole new depth to seeing gangly undead stalking around a cemetary and hearing Dan Akroyd go "Shhh, they think they're clever. Let's flank 'em!"
Ageed again, and when games start getting the same treatment that a good film does, THATS when we take interactive entertaiment to a whole new level.
Then again, games that would have been crap otherwise have sometimes won me over due to licensing :P such as 24 the game (when I USED to like the show) and I prob would still get some fun out of the Sopranos and The Shield games if ever saw them cheap in the bargin bin (even though I know they are crap games.) Ghostbusters looks decent though so it is deffo on my to-play list.
Heavy Rain on PS3 looks like it may the the first game to blur the lines successfully... lets just hope it remembers it is still a GAME. Balance is everything here!
Yeah? I'll have to keep my eye out for that one. I've been fooled sometimes by lisencing though. I bought Quantum of Solace cheaply, thinking it might just be worth a look. At its core, its a decent game: it has a few neat ideas that havn't been seen since Rareware made Goldeneye and gave birth to the legacy every 007 game has had to try and match, but always falls short. QoS falls short early. The old Nightfire on GCN was perhaps even a better standard. Multiplayer itself is kindve hacky: I dont know if its being in Australia but getting matches itself are a hassle unless you play at obscure times. Sometimes you can even find yourself killing time until the peak hour when its easier to play against living players and not bots. But no matter what, you wont kill that time in single player: you'll start browsing the dozen or less levels and thinking "Will I replay this one in the meantime? It had a fun part, but I had to go through alot of sillyness/dullness/obscureness to get there."
I pretty much just steer clear of movie games now.
Sounds like a story for many games my friend! Thanks for the heads up on QoS, was gonna get it cheap but may just give it a miss. On a seperate note, people seemed divided on the film, but I really, really liked it. It just clicked with me and I was pleased with the direction they took it in.
You should take a peek at Heavy Rain, I really think you will be impressed. Several playable characters, and if any of them die, the story continues (even if ALL of them die!). The graphics are amazing and the story looks really interesting. I think it may move adventure games to the consoles in a new way...

I liked the QoS movie, but I wouldn't watch Casino Royal again unless I was paid to. Bond gets beat up, tortured, he doesn't kill the bad guy, loses the girl.. thats not a Bond flick!
But aye, the game is essentially QoS up until the Sinkhole, then it flashes back to Casino Royal, then the last level is the Eco Hotel in QoS again. Looking back I told myself a few times if I had the choice, I wouldn't have worried with that game. Still, you've certainly got me curious over this Heavy Rain now, I'll have to give it a look!
Not to toot the playstation horn, but it WAS originally planned for PC. I honestly don't think 99% of PCs could handle it though. PS3, with the blu-ray disk, is very advanced and has really come into it's own recently. Look at some trailers for the game and you will see exactally why it is a PS3 exclusive! And plus I rekon Sony will have paid some hefty exclusivity rights.

Álot of thigns are coming out exclusive for the PS3 for that very same reason. The MMo Final Fantasy XIV will be PS3 primarily (with Games for Windows possibly) because of the power needed to play it. Bah, so much time and money on FFXI down the drain.
And wow, we really went off topic.. what do you think Dom Armato thinks about the different consoles? lol
We are so ridiculously spoiled to have Dominic voicing Guybrush not only because he does an amazing job but because he keeps in touch with his fellow fans.
Well he said as long as the games come out, he will do interviews with me, so it is nice knowing I will always get to ask him stuff and spread his answers to the fans.
Well I intend to interview Rolf Saxon when I can track him down, but as was mentioned before, Dom is that special case of a voiceactor who is passionate about gaming for real, and knows about his work beyond the paycheck.
It shows in his work. There's always that hint of extra oomph when you give a speech out of want rather than need. But then that can be applied to anything. Theres a massive story thats been sitting on my hard-drive for months that I tinker and add/edit from time to time. Daftly though I actually announced it on my ff.net profile, so now I occasionaly get people sending me emails asking for when it will be out (which just makes me feel hassled to do it and I wind up deleting anything I type, its never up to the same quality as when I take my time).
Anyhow, look forward to reading those interviews when they happen.
With Dom I think it helps that he was a fan of the series before starting to work on them. Getting a chance to work on something you already like is a rare opportunity and it's good to see Dom embrace that.
Definately, I always wonder what the series would be like now if the other person who it had been between had got the role instead of Dom! We might not even be chatting right now...

Say it aint so! (I've enjoyed these chats.)
Sometimes you can stop and think "I wonder how different it would have been with option number 2" but it can be really hard to imagine. Oh well, some things just arn't meant to be.
I do think what corruptbiggins said is true: it helps when you know Dom loves these games as much, if not more than, you and I. He really is in many ways the ultimate Monkey Island fan. And he is also one lucky sonofabitch haha. But I really cannot imagine anyone else doing Guybrush. It is a shame LucasArts didn't ever use him in other adventure games.

I agree completely about the lucky SOB bit, heh. And its a little bit of a shame, but not too much I think. You get some voice actors who throw in a few lines to any and every game and show that offers them a cheque, and it doesn't make them much more than profesionals. Then take Peter Cullen: while he was known for Eeore on the old Whinnie the Pooh, I think iconically he'll always be known as the original Optimus Prime. (I remember casting him in these new Bay movies was one of the saving graces of them, really.)
I can go to Gary Chalk whose got alot of things up his sleeve but I'll always think of Cullen in front of a mic getting rumbly and into the role. (Which is hard when your a 4 ton semi.)
Yeh exactally. I kind of like how Dom for example hasn't voiced any other MAJOR game characters. It makes him feel like he actually is Guybrush. Like say they had asked him to do Manny Calavera. I bet he could have done it well... but Tony Plana just nailed it and I cannot imagine another voice.
Tony is similar to Dom... he did 3 games and only Grim was a major role. Kind of sad but then cool to keep it exclusive and special as a performance.
I cant wait to read the interview on AMO for the 4th chapter: it sounds like he'd have some pretty in depth responses to that chapter. Maybe he could be an on-screen pirate in this 4th Pirates of the Carribbean movie theyre making? (If nothing else, the toyline might be the closest thing to a Guybrush Threepwood collectable, aside from the expensive Guybrush and his Voodoo Rootbeer Vs Ghost LeChuck statue theyve brought out.)
I think he HAS success. He admits he was the ultimate Monkey Island fan...then he voiced Guybrush... AND was positively received! I think he is living the dream, he always seems so happy talking about Monkey Island :-) And plus he works in the family business and loves to cook... he DOES do other voicework, but I think it had been nothing too heavy until the Monkey Island revival.
And yeh Takun, me too. I think he is going to give some great answers next month, and at the very end I am going to do another massive in depth one to pick his brains to the limit!

If you can enjoy your work, it makes a lot of difference, but if you love it then you can face the world head on, I think. I imagine for the ultimate monkey island fan, being able to be recognised as the voice of Guybrush Threepgood and just having a simple life or voicing the character and playing him afterwards would be all the success someone like him would want. (James Coburn started out pretty happy to just get any role, and that energy made him put everything into it. Look how he took off over time.)
And do me a favour and let me know when you do? I can't wait to read that one!
Haha of course, I always post it here, and on the twitter.
I just wish the people here who checked the site for my interview would follow the twitter and check the site for other stuff I think they would find other stuff they'd like! They usually jus read the interviews and dissappear! Although I do get some really good chats here in the forums with people.

I got noooo idea how to even use Twitter tbh. Once or twice ive gotten some sign up email but I usually ignore them. I heard it was like facebook but uploaded by your mobile, and my friends just arnt interesting enough to know every bleeding detail of their lives. (My best mate was 31 when he had his first time. His facebook is all about the application games progresses and chanting some footy star. Im very close to drunkenly telling him to "Stop right there!... now go away.")
I used to hate twitter, but it works really well to follow sites such as my own, and others. Lets you know when that latest review is up etc etc. I just wish I could get more people to revisit my site rather than do hit and runs :P Bit depressing sometimes but I know its just human nature... you read the article then close the page and forget the site :P

Hintity hint hint mate? Just kidding. I know you can comment on the articles on your site, but I didn't know you could do more than that, wouldn't a revist/hit and close be all you could do afterwards?
Haha I dont mean I want people refreshing the pages or anything to boost my stats :P

Irishmile, twitter is pretty easy to get to grips with. Send a pm if you need a hand, its pretty neat once you get into it!
