Lechuck

I don't post much on here but I've love all episodes. However, this may be minor but to me it's a big thing, getting Earl Boen back as LeChuck! To me, he is Lechuck and however you got him to do it, THANK YOU! Honestly, thank you.

EDIT: I'm not saying that the recent voice of LeChuck was bad. I actually liked him alot but Earl Boen is LeChuck, to me at least.

I agree. Earl is the man when it comes to LeChuck. I was thrilled to bits when I heard his voice again, I only hope that he continues doing LeChuck even though he has officially retired.

Yes, much love to both Lechucks voices. They both done superbly! I could never tire of Earl Boens voice.

I didnt see that coming but this really needs a spoiler tag

He only said a few lines but I'm glad he's back, the original guy was allright but not as good as Earl.

Wow. They even got Earl Boen back. Man.

Telltale, how the heck did you pull this off?!?
  • edited October 2009
And how about that laugh as the credits rolled. Truly evil and not cheesy at all. I thought the first guy was good but all the "HAR HAR HAR" did get very annoying after a while.
  • edited October 2009
WHAT!? EARL IS BACK!? Hell YES!

Next time he's in (if you haven't already), any chance of getting him to redo the rest of the series? The other guy was okay, but he was no Earl. Especially the "HAR HAR HAR" stuff.

They just need to re-dub his lines from the beginning of Chapter 1. Keep all the Kevin Blackton stuff in, he was a great human LeChuck, but Earl Boen needs to be demon LeChuck. That other guy just didn't pull it off at all. If they have Earl Boen re-dub his lines from LotSN all will be forgiven (and then some!) :)

Those are my sentiments as well.

Did Kevin Blackton did the Demon Lechuck voice in the beginning of the first episode?

No, it was originally a VO artist by the name of Adam Harrington.

Heh, I don't want to offend Mr. Harrington but I really hope they redub those lines with Earl Boen for the DVD version. Boen just sounds like a much much better Lechuck.

Yeah, I don't mean any disrespect to Mr. Harrington but it's Earl Boen's role. I mean he's been LeChuck since CMI. He has made the character his own and when LeChuck is being evil it's just not right unless it's Earl Boens voice.

    Did Earl Boen
do all of Demon LeChuck's voicework at the end?
. I thought they just kept
    human LeChuck's
voice for the dialogue, but it seemed slightly off, and thought it sounded horrible. I'm kind of confused.

I only knew because i saw his name in the credits. I didn;t notice it at the time, but i was in shock.

Yeah, Earl Boen did all of Demon LeChucks lines in this episode. I actually noticed it was him the first time Guybrush picked up the LeChuck doll that Stan is trying to sell. I was shocked and amazed that is was actually him. Then when I got through the ending it all made sense.

Wow, you noticed from that one (rather garbled) line? I didn't twig until I heard him laughing after the cut-to-black and thought "Hang on, that sounded like Earl Boen's LeChuck laugh..." Of course, I was thinking repeatedly in the back of my head in that ending scene that whoever was voicing LeChuck was doing a great job of sounding like Earl Boen too. xD I flipped once I read his name in the credits.

Yeah, I know Earl Boen's voice a little too well, more than would be considered healthy at any rate. You know he was in Baldur's Gate (as Montaron, as well as some NPCs) and appeared in first three Terminator films (as Dr. Silberman) :D

Op, it's ten o'clock, time to go sort through his trash ;)

    Think of Sam and Max.

Redubbing would be great, but I don't think it will happen.
  • edited October 2009
Well it's a bit different. The two guys who did the voice in Sam & Max sounded almost exactly the same (There is even a thread comparing). Here Adam Harrington sounds NOTHING like Earl Boen (down to the accent).

Also while in S&M they would have to redub the whole episode, here it's just the introductory sequence that needs to get redubbed.

IMHO Telltale really really have to do this.

    Ditto

holy shit, that was Earl Boen?

I did think that the Demon LeChuck voice sounded better than in the first chapter but I didn't realise it was him. I'm not actually sure if that's good or bad on my part seeing as he is the definiteive LeChuck voice. I'll have to rewatch the ending again
  • edited October 2009
I could tell as soon as I activated the LeChuck doll that Earl was providing the voice again :)
  • edited October 2009
OK having rewatched it I think it's fair that I didn't notice it. He hasn't got much bass in his voice compared to his previous LeChuck voice work. It doesn't sound quite the same but it was only a couple of lines, having Earl Boen back is brilliant. Good job Telltale.

Also I love the Human LeChuck voice, I think the guy did a great job. Only one that sucked was the Demon voice from the first chapter.
  • edited October 2009
What was the difficulty in getting Earl Boen originally?
  • edited October 2009
He's retired, I think. Regarding what I said before - I think human LeChuck is great, but Demon Lechuck's lines should be redubbed by Earl.
  • edited October 2009
Maybe Earl played the first three episodes on his computer for himself and decided that Tales of Monkey Island was so good that he just had to be a part of it!
  • edited October 2009
I agree, I was astounded to hear Earl Boen's voice again - I'm guessing this means he's back for the entire final chapter? = )

Although Earl Boen is THE LeChuck, I'm kinda sad to see the end of Kevin Blackton's human Lechuck. He did an awesome job as a jollier, less gravelly LeChuck, which I think was perfect for the supposedly "good" human version of the character.

I agree with those who are hoping that the Telltale team managed to get Earl Boen to record LeChuck's episode 1 lines alongside his episode 4 (and assumedly 5) contributions though; I'm sure Adam Harrington is a fine voice actor, but he wasn't quite right for LeChuck. If not though, I'm fine with it - after all, having Earl Boen on board for the end is good enough. I don't mind the inconsistancy with Chapter 1 if it means getting back THE voice of LeChuck for the finalé. = )
  • edited October 2009
wow, at first I just thought the new voice actor just got better, thats all. Didn't realise it was Earl
  • edited October 2009
I admit I didn't realize until the laugh at the very end... at which point I thought "Wait, was that Earl Boen?" and made sure to watch the end credits... and sure enough, it was.
  • edited October 2009
I'll admit, Kevin, he did a GREAT job as Human LeChuck, no offence to Adam, but the LeChuck from Episode 1 was terrible, cheesy and just not like LeChuck at all and that was my main complaint with the episode. Human LeChuck is his own character so for Kevin to come in and keep that LeChuck style but also making it different, bug thumbs up to him.

As for the end of the episode, I could see the return of Demon LeChuck and in the back of my mind I just kept thinking "Please let Kevin keep doing the voice, Please let Kevin keep doing the voice, please no Episode 1 LeChuck!" and when he turned around I was shocked and confused "Wow, Kevin is really doing a great Earl Boen impression I can't tell the difference!" and the exact moment LeChuck said that comment about Guybrush, no doubt about it, that style, THAT WAS EARL BOEN. So whatever you did Telltale, THANK YOU!

I feel a bit bad for the voice-actor of human LeChuck.
Maybe he was planned as voice of demon LeChuck for the whole series at first, but the plans were changed because of the lukewarm reaction? Telltales are developers to listen to the fans after all...

So, I just wanna say that I loved his human LeChuck, and also had no complaints about the demon LeChuck from episode 1, not being biased because I never got to hear a MI-game with english voice-overs before.

It´s hard to take over a role strongly associated with a different actor, but Mr. Harrington proved to be a great voice-actor and did a very good job. I hope to hear him again in some role. :)

I didn't actually notice the change of voice actor (given demon LeChuck only has one line), I only noticed in the credits.

I don't think redubbing is off the menu; didn't William Kasten re-record Andy Chaiken's lines as Max for the DVD version of Culture Shock? So Earl Boen redoing demon LeChuck for LotSN isn't an impossibility.

See, I only noticed that LeChuck sounded different at the start of LotSN. When it returned to the original voice at the end of TaEoGT I didn't even bat an eyelid. Probably because I'm used to Boen's voice enough that I didn't notice any difference to how he sounded in my mind.

Which is to say, I only notice it when it's different, not when it's the same.

I didn't notice at first, I just though Kevin was doing a VERY GOOD Earl Boen impression, but Boen has certain mannerisms that he brings to the character and it kicked me in the face as soon as he said his second sentence about Guybrush, that was just Earl Boen down to a T.

Nothing against Kevin's work but his HAR HAR HAR from the first part, was something, that I really needed to get used to - it simply didn't feel right but except that he did quite a good job. :)

However...Earl simply has that special something that makes LeChuck the character he is. It's the same with Michael Ironside as Sam Fisher or David Hayter as Snake. :)

Adam Harrington was LeChuck's voice in Narwhal. Kevin Blackton only came in as Human LeChuck in Spinner Cay.

My very first post on this forum was asking if we'd hear Earl Boen back as LeChuck... It's like things have come full circle!

Earl Boen probably didn't want to do numerous sessions since he's retired, but was willing to reprise the role as a one time deal (IE Episode 5.)

Kevin Blackton was a great Human LeChuck, but it's good to have the Ultimate LeChuck back in business!

TMI should get a diffrent LeChuck each week XD in tonights episode the role of Lechuck will be played by Samual L Jackson

Did Earl Boen not actually give a human LeChuck in EMI (as Charles L. Charles)?
