Guybrush Fandango (Ch.4 spoiler, ahoy)

edited November 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Thar be Chapter 4 spoiler here!

So Guybrush and Morgan are "dead", right? And where do the dead go? They go to the Land of the Dead! I had this crazy image in my head last night of paper mache skeleton versions of Guybrush and Morgan in the Land of the Dead, teaming up with a big orange demon (summoned from the Land of the Dead itself and given one purpose, one desire, to DRIVE) in order to get back to the land of the living to stop LeChuck.

I think there's gonna be some sort of resurrection with a little help of SCIENCE in the form Jus De Vie (there must be a dose left somewhere around the wind machine).

Yeah, that's the most logical course for the story to take. I wonder if the resurrection will happen right away in the opening cutscene, or maybe we'll play as Elaine in the beginning of the chapter.

My wildest guess: Play as Elaine to defeat LeChuck in swordfight (or at least hold him back for a while), play one short scene as the hand maybe looking for a vial of Jus De Vie (it might still be poxed if it somehow escaped the effect of Esponja) and of course play a while (or half of the chapter whatever) as Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Ghost Pirate until body and spirit reunite.

    Science? Really?

    Voodoo!

Well, we know that the dead have a habit of not staying dead in the Monkey Island universe. I could definitely see playing part of episode 5 as a ghost.

This is pretty much what I thought, that we'll be starting the next chapter as Elaine and trying to bring back Guybrush (and most likely Morgan and LeSinge as well).

Almost feels like a bit of a cop out, Morgans death was really unexpected, it caught me totally off guard and was more emotional because of that. Simply bringing her back would feel a bit cheap.. On the other hand, I think she's a great character and I would like to see her again in future games.

Maybe Manny will be there? :D

I don't want to dig up the Nintendo Power links again, so here's the jist of it.
It's not the Land of the Dead, it's the Land of the Undead, and yes, Guybrush does appear there. So unless it's part of the puzzle to get back, I doubt the Jus de Vie will have anything to do with it.

If anyone who hasn't already seen the Nintendo Power article wants it, I'll dig up the links and re-post them here.

I have a feeling Morgan is gonna show up while Elaine is fighting LeChuck. She brings Guybrush back, and they all manage to drive LeChuck back. Or not, I love the fact that the Telltale guys have managed to surprise me more than a few times during the series. :)

I want to play as Guybrush's hand, that would be cool. I think His Hand is the Pirate GOD
  • edited November 2009
Hahaha, it would be really cool to see a combination of Grim fandango, MI and the devil (or hell) from Sam and Max.

I have to say, having seen the first one again, I'm slightly disappointed that his tongue isn't flopped out in the second.

I wonder if Elaine's reaction would've been as touching if she'd been present for the first time he "died". And I mean that as would her reaction to the first time he died have been as touching, not would her reaction to his most recent death have been as touching if she'd seen the first one.

In any case, I'm sure she would've cared a lot more than Mort and Goodsoup. Heartless jerks.

GuruGuru, you really need to resize that image.

EDIT: Also, while the tongue flopping out in CoMI was funny, I don't think 'funny' was what TellTale was going for in this scene. :P

hmm, that reminds me of a bit of fanart I still haven't finished with Manny finally taking LeChuck in and reading him a long list of violations against the Land of the Dead - stuff like 'multiple counts of evading reaping' - and finishing with welcoming him to a long career of working at the DoD.

Just as long as somewhere, anywhere, in the Land of the Undead, there's a skeleton wearing a button that says "Ask me about Bone".

I didn't resize it because the only image I could find like that was in the wallpaper thread, so it's hosted by the person who made it. I went back and changed it to a link to the image instead.

And yeah, I know his actual death was supposed to be more serious, I just felt like making a joke about it when I reached Guybrush's death in Curse.
