Like two other ppl (on page two), I think it's all to do with the monkeys. DeSinge was evil and a villain but not the main one (one written in to play as main villain while LeChuck took human form).
DeSinge is only existent to make the plot last longer.
Also, think like that. We have a zombie pirate guy with awesome abs and a stinky voodoo beard. Okay? Now turn your head over. We have another guy, who is skinnier, older, lacks strength and a sense of fashion, and uses a large quantity of facial make-up. I think we already know which one is the best qualified for being the biggest douche in a fictional pirate tale.
I thought it was possible too. When Guybrush found Morgan dying, I immediately thought it was Elaine who was responsible. But then when you talk to Elaine later in the game, and tell her you think DeSinge did it, I thought she would have admitted to doing it at that point (after all, she is poxed). Either that, or she would have got defensive. Still, even though none of that happened I guess she could have done it.
Or maybe Jacques killed Morgan!
I never thought about Elaine.... That would be a surprise. Does morgan die after LeChuck's put in jail? Unless he kills Morgan and then goes to the courthouse and pulls his little act. And even if Elaine did do it, you could say the pox caused it, which is LeChuck's fault.
