That sure blows. Hope you get to download Rise of the Pirate God.
And thanks for some good fun.

If nothing else, I just learned that I can connect my phone to my computer and use it as a modem. It's a bit slow, but it's better than nothing. Probably better that I try taking my laptop to a friend's or something, though. Don't want to risk getting some weird bill or running out of bandwidth on that too.
  • edited December 2009
I would be carefull using the phone to get online unless you have a free data plan on it or something like that.
  • edited December 2009
I do have an unlimited data plan, I just don't know if the phone somehow behaves differently when connecting to the internet for a computer. I probably had better get off here. Hopefully I can call my ISP tomorrow and get things straightened out.

Really, it probably didn't help that I was running Icedhope's and/or my own streams all day today as well as broadcasting. Hindsight, right?
  • edited December 2009
Its the same way as internet on the phone, but your provider might have a limit like you said. On how much you can use it so you dont take over all of the bandwith.

    -huge relieved sigh-

My modem came back up. I got pissed off, quit the game, took a bathroom break, and it was back up upon my return. I'm going to dig up whatever information I can find about my ISP and bandwidth restrictions before I try a stunt like this one again (and I would love to finish this race the way I began, with everyone able to watch), but at least I shouldn't have any problem getting chapter 5 tomorrow.

That sucks quite a lot! Glad you got it (mostly) sorted.

If you guys are still playing before today's release, I'll probably stop by while we're waiting for that Download button to finally turn green. Sleep probably won't happen tonight! :p
  • edited December 2009
In a way this spooks me. I'd love to continue tomorrow (though I've been up for the last 22 hours and almost certainly won't be able to finish playing Tales before release), but I'd be afraid to stream it before getting my download.

On the other hand, could I have possibly used more bandwidth today than the time I torrented the first 13 episodes of a show to catch up mid-season? That's 13 hours of high quality video and I streamed 18 hours of low quality video today. I mean I don't even know that bandwidth had anything to do with what happened to me, it's just an idea in my head that I'm now spooked about.

Maybe I'll do some research this week and finish the race either later this week or next weekend, and I'll include a second run of Rise of the Pirate God on the end of it.

Bwahahaha! I slept for three hours I am now at the end of escape.

Okay, going to figure out my time for the LucasArts games and deal with Tales separately.

The Secret of Monkey Island: 9:00 AM - 12:25 PM (3:25)

    Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge: 12:45 PM - 3:25 PM (2:40)

The Curse of Monkey Island: 4:05 PM - 8:15 PM (4:10)

Escape from Monkey Island: 9:00 PM - 2:45 AM (5:45)

    Total Playing Time: 16 hours

Tales of Monkey Island - Launch of the Screaming Narwhal: 2:45 AM - 4:00 AM, Time so far: 1 hour 15 minutes

And I was strapped down in DeSinge's lab when I had to quit. Do I ever wish I could finish before release...

Aw crap I'm out. Great going guys, maybe someday I'll give it another go. :D

Still have to find an excuse to finish Escape anyway. D:

Okay, so next time (yes, you heard me, Iced and I are crazy enough to try this again) we're doing this on a weekend, we're planning it out further in advance to work out any problems (and maybe scrounge up a prize or two), and if we're doing it in proximity to a release, we're doing it at least two days before instead of one, so we can break it up. I mean, I'm still aiming to finish in under 24 hours for the whole series (and I will be including my second run of Pirate God in that time, and yes I realize that goal may be far-fetched, as it requires me to finish each episode of Tales in under an hour and 36 minutes), but to do it under the rules we set down in under 24 consecutive hours would be a nightmare.

    Gah, I'm going to bed.

Maybe a week-long event would be better. Maybe race Secret and MI2 on the first day, Curse on the second, Escape on the third, and either break up Tales or make the fourth day during the weekend. That way we can also race individual games as well as a total time at the end.

Okay, now I'm really going to bed.

Maybe we could do a Sam and Max -a- thon if Season 3 comes out to celebrate too? :D
  • edited December 2009
Pff, I'd need to own those games first, and that requires money. I'd certainly watch and help officiate, though.

    REALLY going to bed now.

    No you're not :P

See I think that would be awesome. Yes, are we insane. Possibly, did we enjoy ourselves and the all the support hecks yeah.

    No you're not :P

Yeah, I am. I've been up for 23 hours (the first 18 of which contained 16 hours of gameplay) and I want to be conscious when chapter 5 hits. Plus my dad is across the hall getting ready for work and would be pissed if he knew I was still up (as it is I'm typing slowly and softly and have the lights off). Only reason I get away with staying up as late as I do is I have the only basement bedroom.

If only people would stop talking to me before I could get away from the forum...

Yep, I had tons of fun (even during Escape), and I enjoyed the support as much as I know they enjoyed watching us play. It was an even stronger sense of community than we normally get around here, and that's saying something. Yeah, it was absolutely insane of us, but I would do it again next week, dammit.

    So....nice weather we're having today.

Where abouts are you? Australia/Asia? It's 1AM here in Sydney :P

Me? I think I summed it up pretty good under location, over there on the left. I live in Colorado. I woke up at 8 yesterday and started playing at 9. I quit at 4:15 AM today, so over the past 23:15, I played for 15:15, spent 3 hours screwing around after I quit, and apparently took 5 hours in breaks (which so does not add up) during the 15:15.

Okay, I broke it somehow. In the 19 hours between 9 AM and 4 AM, if you add my play time you get 15:15, but if you add my breaks you only get 1:45. I lost two hours somewhere. I'll chart this out tomorrow and really figure out how I spent this day.
I added badly. I played for 17:15. But what I can say is that for the last 30 minutes of the 24 hours since I woke up at 8 am on race day, I'll be asleep.
    So....nice weather we're having today.

Bullcrap, it's freezing and snowy outside. I keep having to warm up my hands so I can type because my room is the only one in the house with no heat vent.

Next time you try this, I think I'll join in too. If I get get Livstream to work, that is.
  • edited December 2009
In a week the winter holidays start, wouldn't that be the perfect time to do the next incarnation of this?
  • edited December 2009
I had considered it, but it also seems pretty soon. Well, soon for Iced, Fawful, and I. On the other hand, maybe... I'm just foolish enough that I'll jump in if everyone else is up for it. Iced? Fawful? Everyone else who was interested? What do you guys think about it?

Okay, Iced and I have decided that we're going to finish our race on Wednesday at 4 PM GMT (8 AM PST). We're both finished with the series up through Escape, so we'll both be running through all five episodes of Tales. We'll be streaming it again, so hopefully we'll see you all there!
  • edited December 2009
    I'll be watching!
  • edited December 2009
aw, crap! I don't own a copy of EMI! Or I might have considered doing something this dumb. I haven't made my quota for this year.
  • edited December 2009
Has it started yet? What are the rules regarding Speeding up the text. Actually, it doesn't matter to me, i don't own LR, so i can't Join.:(
  • edited December 2009
We actually never discussed that. I sped up the text in Secret so that the spoken dialogue would sound more natural, but I played LeChuck's Revenge with the default speed. And the first race was last Monday but we didn't manage to fit Tales in, so we're finishing that tomorrow, and there's talk of doing a second race soon.
  • edited December 2009
Well, something came up for both Iced and I, so we won't be finishing tomorrow. We'll let you guys know when we get another day worked out.
  • edited December 2009
Hah, you people are cool. I'd have joined if I had seen this before it started, and if I didn't have finals on Friday. If you're going to do anything similar during the winter holidays (Sam & Max anyone?), you can count me in. Even though it's insane.
  • edited December 2009
Well, there's talk of doing a MI race again over the holidays, and I've never played Sam and Max and don't own any of the games (but will likely be attempting to fix that before my free episode/discounted season codes expire) but Iced wants to do a Sam and Max race sometime, which I will absolutely watch/help out with, even if I can't participate.
  • edited December 2009
So let's pick a date for the second edition of this race. Any day in the holidays suits me, but I imagine other people here have a life and don't want it on Christmas or New Year. So what about December 27th? It's a sunday, so even people who don't have holiday will be able to join.
  • edited December 2009
We sort of decided that a single-day event isn't such a good idea. I had the fastest time and it still took me 16 hours to run through the four LucasArts games, 17 hours and 45 minutes including breaks. So the next race is going to be split over a weekend. Secret and LeChuck's Revenge on Friday, Curse and Escape on Saturday, and Tales on Sunday. The single-day race was a lot of fun, but it was also exhausting and not many people had time enough to participate.

And...Christmas and New Year's both fall on Friday this year. Anyone up for a Saturday-Sunday-Monday race on the 26th-28th?
  • edited December 2009
    I think that's a great idea.

EDIT: So are we gonna do Secret and Revenge on Saurday, Curse and Escape on Sunday, and Tales on Monday? I replayed Tales in a single day a week ago, and it took me 10 (!) hours.
  • edited December 2009
Yeah, that's pretty much how it would go. I know it would be better if we could play Tales on a weekend, but a two day race would mean cramming the first four games into one day, and that took me 16 hours. Even if we bumped Escape to the second day, we'd have about 16 hours that day. If we want to do it while the most people are on break, this is pretty much our best shot. If you think it would work better, we could make it a four day race and split Tales into two parts.

But we really should be discussing this all over here.

Now, I believe that the strangely silent-in-this-thread Icedhope is supposed to be finishing his race over Twitter at some point today, but I don't know when and he said he was making a new Twitter. And I'm supposed to finish it on Livestream later today, but it's already getting late to start a 10 hour run if I don't want to be up playing as late as last time. I have plans this weekend, so I think I'm going to hold off for Monday and try to get at it early.

Sorry, today hasn't been nearly so good for finishing the race as I would've thought. I'll be able to do it Monday at the earliest, so if you've got time this weekend and want to finish without me, that's fine.
