There may be an embargo on reviews until the day of the release. Can any of our press-type forum friends confirm or deny that?
I remember seeing the first reviews for Spinner Cay one day before the official release date. So that would make TOMORROW for Rise of the Pirate God.
Then again, things were a little messy with Spinner Cay anyway, with that intro-sequence on YouTube suddenly emerging out of nowhere and all....aah, those were the times...
The embargo is 12AM PST on launch day, so they go out a little before launch.
I do want to say though, that the review copy seems a little more rough than usual (they're always slightly incomplete compared to the release copy) so you might want to be a little wary of early reviews. We were told they're missing a scene, missing music in spots, missing some sound effects, lots of little bugs. I'd wager some eager reviewers won't play the complete one before publishing.
Isn't that going to have a negative effect on the reviews, or do most game reviewers take your word for it when you tell them that the final build will be less buggy?

The Spinner Cay embargo lifted on release day at midnight. Reviews usually go up early morning, but you have to remember that morning comes earlier in the east than the west. (I know about the embargo because I reviewed Spinner Cay.)
The press copy went out a little rough this time. We wanted to get something into their hands sooner rather than later, though.
Honestly, I really appreciate it, becuase it's the busy season and the extra time helps. I just mention it because Day One reviews might reflect a bit of that roughness.
