How I probably would have ended it

TTG took it in the right direction but not far enough, I believe. I probably would have written it the plot out closer to this:

1. Guybrush becomes ghost
2. Guybrush becomes zombie
3. Guybrush becomes demon
4. Guybrush pretends Escape from Monkey Island never happened because its the weakest of the games (writer whistles innocently)
5. Guybrush becomes human again by being stabbed by Lechuck with re-improperly enchanted cutlass
6. Defeats LeChuck
7. Is seen being kidnapped by Ghost Pirate-Hunter Morgan determined to make him her undead groom.
8. As we swing out from Elaine's disbieving sigh, we get a mumbo-jumbo voice-over from the Voodoo lady about repeating cycles.
9. Endless beloved sequals

I don't know, I think it would be fitting to become ALL the forms that LeChuck followed on his way to become mortal again. And Morgan Leflay is just begging to be a Threepwood family foil in the future. They did a good job post credits, but I think they missed some opportunities.

I wish Guybrush tried to find a way to use the Esponja Grande for himself to become the real PIRATE GOD. It would make the title more fitting.

I would have screwed it up, most likely. I would have ended it on a bitter, macabre note. Probably would have ended it right before The Final Puzzle.

Hear that Telltale? Don't ever hire Rather Dashing as a writer. :p

I'd have to concur! I'm not funny or entertaining(or, you know, good at writing). But you wouldn't have to worry even if I was, because LucasArts would never let me do horrible things to the characters I love.

I think after I repeated the end fight sequence on the ship for the fiftieth or sixtieth time looking for a way to grab the damn keys, Guybrush and I would have to disagree with you there =P

I actually agree. When Elaine first killed me with the root beer, I figured that this was the course they were going to take. I think it would have been fun to see Guybrush become a demon, green skin and flaming beard... but I don't agree with you on EMI. It might be the weakest in the series, but it is still part of the story line, no matter how jacked they made it. You can't just pretend it didn't happen. It's like pretending this guy can't dance:

Just ain't right. Just ain't right.

Fine - but you get to write in how they get the small Austrailian Murry to ride and control the 50 foot stone Guybrush.

I honestly thought this is how the ending would have gone, and I'm still debating if this would have been a better ending. While it would have been predicable, it would have felt concluded enough to satisfy me, but open enough to make more. Hmmm... Anyways good post :) I like those ideas.

I don't know if Mark ever considered taking it further, but for me, we had Ghost Guybrush in the afterlife, and we have Guybrush's body in the real world, that gives you Ghost Pirate, and then Zombie Pirate. I guess we could have taken it further and had Guybrush consume energy from the sponge to become Demon Pirate, but it honestly never strongly crossed my mind. I thought that once Guybrush got his body back he'd feel that was enough and go try to mess with LeChuck. Plus, who really wants to see Guybrush with a flaming goatee? His regular one is already lame!

honestly Zombie Guybrush made perfect sense for where to end the cycle of incarnations for me. Guybrush has ALWAYS gone up against LeChuck as an underdog, it's part of his cham and who he is. I don't think Guybrush himself would ver agree to becoming Demonized just for a little bit of an edge, he's always won just by being clever.

Oh jeez. This got me thinking about what would've happened if Guybrush had followed LeChuck's path all the way to present day. Could you imagine what a bunch of pirates under the influence of the "Pox of Threepwood" would be like? There'd be pirates sticking things in their pants and trying to "use _____ with ______" everywhere!

That's an M rating waiting to happen.

For some reason it works out really well in my head. The Demon-pirate Threepwood doesn't need to be any less lame and bumbling than the regular Guybrush. You have to remember the Voodoo lady's gist - LuChuck is always going to be "LuChuckish" in whatever form he takes, and Guybrush is always going to be "Guybrushish" in whatever form he takes. (note to self: Must remember to trademark "Guybrushish" in the near future...)

The 4th iteration of Guybrush from Escape...eh, so hard wrap my head around how much that doesn't work in this context, but I'm sure it could be done.

And the fifth iteration of Guybrush? Think about it. LuChuck stabs Guybrush with a re-improperly enchanted cutlass, Guybrush becomes mortal again and LeChuck picks up the Pox of Guybrush! Now THERE'S an equally matched battle I'd have loved to have seen! =D

(BTW, is it too early to start complaining about the lack of Sam & Max 2010 headway yet? I'm jonesing something awful since I finished ToMI =P)

Ugh, now that I reread it, all I can picture is LuChuck's Guybrushed hand reaching into his pants all the time looking for stuff at inopportune moments. Damn you Guru!

I thought that was going to happen as well (especially after Guybrush makes reference to all the incarnations of Lechuck earlier). And it would have made more sense for Guybrush to become human by being stabbed by the sword, just like what happened with Lechuck at the start. Actually that never made sense to me in the first place, but it would still be more logical than how Guybrush actually does get his body back with the ring and all that.

And about MI4: don't forget that huge statue isn't the only form that LeChuck took in that game. He also took one of his most terrifying forms in that game: a politician.
