Your (one) favorite Chapter

edited December 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Okay, I've quickly searched the forum for the polls but have only found a "Favorite episode(s) in order" thread on the first page so I thought it might be nice to actually have us all vote for our one favorite chapter, now that all five have been released.

I go for chapter 4, and, just having replayed it, wish TOMI would have ended like this and the coming-back-to-life-part would have been Guybrush's objective in season 2. But chapter 5, naturally, spoiled that...

Anyway, go vote!

Lair of the Leviathan. The pacing is perfect, the opening puzzle is brilliant, it's got Murray, the environments are all great...I could go on.

Pretty much what I was going to say. I thought LotL was the most interesting and well laid out of all of them. We got to know Morgan a bit more with this one which was interesting, and I liked the development of Voodoo Lady's past with DeCava. And Murray's character was spot on, and had me laughing the most out of the entire series.

Tough choice between Chapters 3 and 4 for me. Leviathan (3) was definitely the pinnacle in terms of puzzles, but Trial (4) had so much pathos and plot development.

    Whaaaaaaat a question!!!
Very difficult. I have to think a while.
is a very strong battle between "Trial ..." and "Lair ...". I love them both equally and for different reasons! I think the end I'ill choose Trial, I prefer to think about still some time.

You know, I intended to make you think that way by using this poll. :D
I think each chapter comes up with a strength of its own, putting the emphasis on either puzzle or plot. Of course, in the end each chapter is a mixture of both, but the percentage varied:

    Narwhal: Puzzle over Plot
Siege: Puzzle & Plot being 50:50
    Lair: Puzzle over Plot
    Trial: Plot over Puzzle
    Rise:.... d'uh...I'm having my difficulties with this last one...maybe Puzzle-Plot 60:40 ?

Depending on how this vote will look like when it's closed, TTG might use it as a little help for creating season 2, knowing what the majority of us REALLY wants to see in a game.

You know, I would have liked that. Chapter 4 would have been a great finale.

Chapter 4, hands down. The only time a Monkey Island game made me feel all emotional.

Chapter 4 is my favourite. I loved the courtroom drama and the chapter had probably the best puzzles in the series. It even made the kind of bland first chapter better by suddenly making Flotsam Island seem a much deeper and more dramatic setting.

Mainly the reason for why I loved it so much, too.
Though the finale had its moments too (I got teary-eyed when Guybrush uses his last strength to throw his shred of life into the rip, Morgan begging him in a breaking voice not to).

It's a toss up between 3 and four. Three was probably the funniest, and it had Murray in it. Chapter four had Stan, an awesome plot, and some ingenious puzzles (the sponge recipe i loved)

chapter 4 or 5... chapters 1 and 3 made me feel so limited to certain places... it was a real let down from older monkey island games where your "adventuring around" wasn't limited to one place.

I disagree. The first four cases were just about puzzles, because those cases do not have any significant place in the actual plot, and they were there just to let player solve them all. They were fillers. Then the pox part came in and...

    ...ooouugh you're right.

Overall, Leviathan has the best overall everything. Characterization, drama, puzzles, story, humor, the whole thing just does really well. The other episodes have "great aspects" and "weak" to "really, really annoying or groan-inducing" aspects, but Lair of the Leviathan gets two big thumbs up from me as an overall product.

hmmm i think im probably only one here whos going to mention that i thought the finale chapter was my favourite, due how dark it looked,i mean your right if chapter 4 ended the season then that would be great and chapter 5 opened season 2...but i loved guybrushs different forms, i.e his ghost and zombie...but i do like the whole of the series in general, i felt that this season gave alot of character development,it seems as if the voodoo lady has more of a role to play, then just sitting in her chair and giving direction to guybrush

    Chapter 3: writing
    Chapter 4: puzzles
    Chapter 5: story

So I think what I need is an episode which has the story by Mark Darin, all the puzzles designed by Mike Stemmle and all the dialogue wrriten by Sean Vanaman heh

Definetly Trial and Execution it did everything I felt was needed (which is part of the reason I dislike 5)

T&E showed that Elaine cared about Guybrush. That Morgan while guilty wasn't THAT guilty, but still would risk her reputation for Guybrush. And LeChuck was once again a viable threat.

As expected, I thought, and I voted Trial.
is undoubtedly the most engaging chapter, combining good story and puzzles.

    Murray or Death.... Death!
    Episode 4.

I voted Rise. It had Galeb and Bugeye, which alone is enough for me to love it the most. Trial and Lair tie as second. The first two tie as third.
