Marquis DeSinge Appreciation Thread (Possible spoilers)

edited December 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Really, I felt like I had to make a thread like this. Maybe it was done back when Launch of the Screaming Narwhal was released, I dunno, but I felt like it could be done again now in a restrospect looking at Tales of Monkey Island as a whole.

Who here loves the marquis? I sure do love the marquis.

I really hated the character when I first ran into him in ep 1, but he grew so darn much on me throughout the course of playing through each new episode that was released. After finishing ep 5 I realised I really missed him. The over the top french accent, the hysteric plots and schemes, the zany laboratory and the amazing theme tune written by Michael Land. De Singe, along with the brotherhood living inside of the manatee in Lair of the Leviathan, really take me back to the old LucasArts days with all oddball whacky stuff that would get thrown into the game. I don't know if it's just me, but everytime I see De Singe speak on-screen I imagine all the characters and dialouge the pixel-ish style of MI2. (If you haven't you should try. He could might aswell be character from that game!) Alot of De Singe moments really felt like old-school adventure game antics.

I was suprised both in a good and bad way when De Singe turned out to just be a minor villian in the end of all things (I missed him, but I do love LeChuck quite a bit more after all) :P But still, he feels so 'mazingly memorable, and I think everyone at Telltale did a really great job at creating him. He kicks Largo LeGrande, Rottingham and Ozzy Mandrills butt fo sure if there was ever a minor-monkey-villian contest.

So, this thread here is for everyone who loves the crazy Marquis De Singe.
May he rest in peace.

    Amen, brother.

This topic just isn't perfect without...

    SCIENCE!

Indeed, one of the greatest characters on ToMI, and ever on Monkey Island games. :)

I loved him! Episode 5 really wasn't the same without him. A fantastic villian.

Let me just say that his theme music has been stuck in my head ever since Launch of the Screaming Narwhal. If that's not respect for a character, what is?!

He's my favorite character out of the whole season. I'll miss his crazyness. And I concur, he had a wonderful theme song.

I like how he claims that he 'isn't french' LOL

He crossed over to the multiverse ...

I just liked giving the Marquis wedgies. That was... kinda awesome. :D

    Pieces is more like it.
    :p

He was a very amusing character, indeed.

I think that was my favourite line of his. It felt like a throwaway joke but at the same time it completely turned the tables and proved that he was just an insane character.

He was my favourite character. It's nice to see I'm not the only one.

He was a great character to think back to.

I like having good characters in games that don't return. Just as a random example, I liked the governor of Phatt, he's one of the first characters I think of when someone says MI2.

I just hope TTG can continue making interesting, and different, characters if they carry on the series. :)

De Singe was a great, strong character. I would have imagined him having another big part in episode 5 and was hence surprised / dissapointed to see him go at the end of EP 4.

I still can't get that ruddy song he sang in chapter four out of my head...
    Alouette i will live forever...

DeSinge was absolutely hilarious, definitely a character. I think my mouth hung open when he was so definitively... er... ground up.

It's the little things I really love. Like how his name (Singe) is french for Monkey, and the only one to actually pronounce it correctly (i.e. as the actual french word) is the Voodoo Lady. That just seems... fitting to me. Like she would be the only one to know French. I don't know why that amuses me so much.

My favorite line of him was "I could literally taste my pants" or something like that, but that's a good one too.

I also love how Jared Emerson-Johnson (dang he's got a long name) really threw himself into the role. His complete commitment to De Singe's manic, over-the-top loonyness really made the character. It's also made me a little afraid of meeting him in real life, but still, I really admire him as an actor.

I think my favorite DeSinge line was "I am as happy as a penguin sliding on his bellly!" I laughed so hard I missed the rest of the cutscene... hahaha

I grew to like him more as the series continued. Didn't think he was anything special in chapter 1, but I liked him much more by chapter 4. He was never one of my very favourites, but definitely a really entertaining character and worthy to the MI universe! Very different to all the other MI characters too; it's good to see some variety.

I was hoping we'd see him in chapter 5 somewhere.
Actually, I was surprised they killed him off. Maybe they thought they'd run out of use for the character. But then again, I suppose for all we know he could return to the land of the living someday! (hey, everyone's doing it)

That was the DeSinge line I remembered more than any of the others. It's so random it's awesome.

He was the best new character! Episode 3 was my favorite but number 4 when he dies was quite cathartic.

Along with Winslow, he's my favorite new character! And his voice actor really is good.
