Finally bought the rest of the season (got Launch of The Screaming Narwhal on "Talk Like A Pirate Day"). Played Chapters 2-5 nonstop. Couldn't stop playing them Fantastic games Telltale Cannot wait until ToMI Season 2
Thank you SO much Telltale! No more BOOTCAMP!!! You guys just made my week! Can not wait for season 2! Keep up the great work! Now there is just the dvd left:D
Hey everybody, I'm having a problem with Chapter 1. When I start the app, I get to the Launch Game screen, but then it won't start. I keep getting the message that the app unexpectedly quit. I even tried trashing it and reinstalling it, and that worked the first time, but now it won't start up again.
I have a newer iMac, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 4 GB RAM, running OS 10.5.8
I loaded chapter 1 on my mid-2007 2.4GHz iMac using Leopard 10.5.8 and the game also quit on me before start. I removed, redownloaded, trashed prefs, and reinstalled and rebooted and experienced the same quit on launch. I sent the crash log into TellTalegames.
Next I loaded it on a MacBook 2.1GHz, with Snow Leopard (10.6). It plays, but now I have that frustrating mouse problem that lersveen reported on 2/11:
"Using the mouse to move Guybrush around is basically a no-go. Every time I press down the left mouse button to move, the cursor seems to jump to the lower left corner, causing him to move in that direction every time. The mouse also seems to jump across the screen randomly now and then and it's all a bit frustrating." "There's also some weird colory stuff happening when you launch the game and it's transitioning to fullscreen."
--
I had to move the mouse about 2 feet to get Guybrush to move at all. And, it favors the left hand corner.
If this is supposed to be fun, I'm still waiting for the fun. After an hour fighting with the mouse, I gave up.
I repaired permissions, game still wouldn't start. Restarted the Mac, then the game finally launched. Played for a while, saved and quit. Reloaded the game later, and it did launch with no problems. Keeping my fingers crossed for continued success.
I also have that annoying mouse problem. Sure wish we could move him with the arrow keys.
I don't know if this is just me, but I just got TMI1 working on my Macbook (finally), and some of LEChucks lines are still delivered by Adam Harrington, ones that spring to mind are "What?" "As you wish my love" and i think "Arr. The Evil of LeChuck is always evolving in new and terrifying ways, Sheepgood". I might be wrong about the last one, but it was kindof disappointing to finally be able to load up the Mac version and then hear some inconsistent voices. Earl does a great job with his dialogue, especially since the scene wasn't written for his voice and inflections.
No Har Har Har's in the updated one though. That's good!
Actually, I stumbled across a temporary fix for the mouse problems yesterday. If you hit cmd-f to take it out of fullscreen, drag your mouse once, and then cmd-f to go back into it again, it doesn't seem to jump your cursor down to the bottom left corner any more.
It's still not quite as graceful as the PC version, but we are still working on it. Apparently DirectX really is good for something after all!
Also, I'm pretty sure that all of the LeChuck lines were definitely updated. I can go into his voice folder and see that they were all created at the same time. I think his reads are just different sounding for those.
Edit: I went through and listened to all of the uncompressed wav files, and I can see where you are coming from on the What and As you wish lines, though the third is definitely him. But they were definitely created at the same time as the rest, so I can only assume it's him just sounding weird.
Just played the opening again on my Mac, the "Evil of LeChuck" line (at least on the version I have) is definately Harrington's dub. It's the exact same inflection, actor and sound clip as the original PC version. The other two voices I listed are still Harrington. The rest is Boen though. I seem to be the only one who's listed this at all. Maybe I just care too much! Haha!
CGinFL, dunno why it's not working for you today, but I finally got it working by installing all of the updates for my MacBook, then it ran/is running fine.
I fixed my Preferences, rebooted, MonkeyIsland101 crashed upon launch.
I defragmented my disk with DriveGenius, crashed upon launch.
THIS is really annoying!
:::: SIGH:::
I downloaded the demo for TMI, but it's playing at a snail's pace. Even at the lowest graphics setting, it's still playing a little sluggish. This is on my 2008 model Macbook, too.
I'm upgrading to Snow Leopard, though. Hopefully, that'll make it run a bit faster.
I went through and listened to all of the uncompressed wav files,
Soo then, how about making that bad boy an extra download for those who want higher quality voices? Certainly would be nice to hear without the OGG rough compression done in the first two episodes (though fixed in the Mac version, it does sound better with the voices).
Just wanted to echo the others who have said "Thank you, Telltale, for being so awesome in letting Mac users download the Mac version for free after buying the PC version". I have a Vista partition in Boot Camp for stuff like this, but this (and the recent announcement from Valve) gives me one less reason to reboot. And I don't have to pay extra to do this! You rock!
I have a 2GHz Macbook with 2gb RAM. I know it's not a gaming machine, but there's no setting I can find that will run Monkey Island. I've got quality on 1 with 640x480 resolution, and the frame rate is so so slow and choppy. The audio and subtext can't sync with the video, and trying to move Guybrush anywhere is just an exercise in agony.
Is my trusty little black Macbook simply too slow, or is there anything besides the usual advice of repairing permissions that might work for me?
Playing Tales of Monkey Island on my Macs is great. However, telltale needs to come up with an update for the Mac version asap, since it's almost impossible to move the character using the mouse on OS X!
Adding some more optimization for my MacBook (which has the crappy intel on-board GFX) would be great too, but I wouldn't count on it!
Is there an update notification system build-into the game, or should we check the website regularly for an upcoming update?

Checking the website and the forums is the best option as there isn't usually a built-in update notification system in Telltale's games.
In the meantime, Will's temporary fix works nicely.
Just do command-enter after Will's fix to go back to fullscreen.

You want TellTale to magic you a better Graphics Card? On-boards ARE crap for games, even light games, you need at least a decent chip set to provide some form of power!
Haven't been around these parts since the Mac versions came around but for all the bitching I did in the previous months I felt it only right that I stop in and say thanks to everybody at Telltale for making this happen. Starting my way through ToMI now, looking forward to the titles that'll be making the transition in the future as well!
So I come back to lurk the forums after having been away since shortly after Rise of the Pirate God was released to find this Mac release. And only days after I discover that Valve is going to be releasing Steam on the Mac, with Portal 2 planned as the first simultaneous release on both platforms. What is going on? Since when do developers care about releasing their games on Mac? Has the world gone crazy? ... I like it.

The main problem seems to be the graphics memory, which Apple could do something about and won't; and which Telltale could do something about (ship game with multiple texture qualities) but won't
In retrospect, though, it was pretty stupid for Apple to ship systems with those graphics cards, and stupider not to design the drivers to use system memory.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You can't? On Windows WASD or arrow keys can be used.

Once again, I'm having problems. The app won't launch. I played yesterday without too many problems, but today nothing.
Did you do anything special to get it working? Were you having trouble launching it, too?
