When do you think the Earl Boen "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal" be released

Don't worry guys, this is just a joke, I'm taking the mickey out of all of the other threads similar to this one that we saw all throughout the season.
But you can take it seriously if you like.

I vote for tomorrow (Saturday!) :D

but really, I hope it's asap, and I also hope it's available as downloadable because I really do prefer playing without inserting a disc.

You should add another option: "When pigs will fly". If you vote for it the game comes out the next day.

    I'm liking the "20th of March 21st".

Haha, yeah. I always manage to make some sort of mistake when doing a poll, then I can't edit the damn thing .

They already said that's possible. And if you wish to keep the original you have to lock it up tight, burn it for savekeeping on a DVD and all. :p

I voted 21st of Feb because it's my birthday. Otherwise I have no clue. I'll wait for the DVD even if they update the episode online, anyways.

16th of march. I'm sure something is happening around then (GDC perhaps) and seeing as TTG did the mac version to tie in with the Macworld event, i thought they may do a similair thing with the PC version.

Yes, but the PC one hasn't been updated, and that's what we're talking about.

    Oh yes.

You can hear some of Boen's performance in this video, although it stops short of Guybrush crossing over to Elaine's ship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_duIF6nh_mI

Wow! It feels much more like Monkey Island by having Earl as LeChuck! That's FANTASTIC!

Yeah, I thought it was nice and everything when they first said they were going to do this, but wow. The execution is awesome.

EDIT: Ewww, that "It's a good thing that Cutlass" line from Elaine sounds...hokey.

Is it wrong that I'm more or less indifferent when actually watching it? It even feels "wrong" in places. Maybe that's because I'm used to the earlier performance, but I'm just not wowed. I know I'm supposed to be, but...I dunno.

Hate to admit, but I think you're right. Old verse sounds much more villainy. In this, it's like Earl Boen's trying to finish it as soon as he can.

I'm not wowed but I still like it. I think people were so "oh no, it's not Earl Boen, we want Earl Boen, we want Earl Boen" that they set themselves up for disappointment. He's still human, you know. But I like it.

I didn't feel it was "off"... But I'm wondering if they re-synched the opening scene to the new voice or if he had to try and keep the same rhythm, like in dubbing.

The "Arr arr" is much more natural now. I prefer it that way.

    EPIC WIN!

I love Earl Boen. He sounds so much better.

edit: TTG, release it for PC already!

*checks game list* Nope, still purple 3d Guybrush. I hope they've got something today now that they're back at work.

I have to say, I like the new Icon, it fits in now, also the loading screen looks better for some reason, could of sworn it used to be at an angle?

    Now then...

YES, Earl Boen is soo much better, it just feels right, especially certain lines such as "Soon the dread mysteries of these ancient simians will be mine!", no offence to Adam, but that screech he done when saying Mine was just terrible, yet here Earl says it normal without stressing any words, can't wait for this version on the DVD.

edit: Also, Elaine sounds better too, less compression on her voice.

Yeah, his accent came through too much on the "Mine!".

Yep! Arr Arr is way better now but the pace of speech feels a little off sometimes. Or maybe this is because we have been playing Narwhal too often hearing the "other" voice. Wow. One character, three voice actors. LeChuck sure is a god.

You think so? I thought that actually sounded really cool.

I think it's the combination of Earl Boen, Alexandra Boyd and Dominic Armato that really makes it. It reminds of the introduction to Curse, and it just feels more like the introduction of a Monkey Island game. The other version was good, but the consistency in this version just feels like something special.

So, wait, is the PC update out yet?
  • edited February 2010
Nope. only for Mac as yet :(
  • edited February 2010
You know what? I'm actually growing quite proud of that 20th of March 21st.

    It got my vote! :)

There's most of his performance aside from the dialogue tree in these gameplay videos I found, too bad this guy's version of the game runs so slowly, so we shouldn't judge the pacing of Boen's performance on these videos:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOl-PF3ClDM
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbZDjkTEI1s

The only thing that seems off to me is the "doily dipper" line, it seems kindof empty without the laugh at the end, but then, that may just be because I'm used to the original guy. Aside from that, Boen is so much better than the original voice, and I'm so glad that Telltale have decided to do this. Months ago I jokingly thought, oh, maybe they'll surprise us and bring back Earl Boen for the finale, and guess what they did! Then I thought, maybe they could update the 1st Episode with Boen's voice. Nah, they probably won't take the time to do that. BUT THEY DID!!! You guys are AMAZING!!!

EDIT: I realise that those who own the Mac may already have seen all of this! Haha! I was merely pointing it out for our unlucky PC Guys (myself included). When do you think we're gonna get the update Telltale?
  • edited March 2010
Is there no more official clarification on this yet? I mean, if they have it all up and running in the mac version then surely most of the work is done.
  • edited March 2010
They probably want to fix a lot of bugs as well before releasing it.
Or they got the Pox and have turned really, really evil.
  • edited March 2010
So umm... any word on this yet?

I'm concerned about whether the PC version of the Chapter 1 download will be updated with Earl Boen. I want it. I don't want to have to insert a disc to hear his voice in Chapter 1.
  • edited March 2010
    They said they'll do it.

    They'll get around to it.
  • edited March 2010
Damn, I really wanted it to actually be released on the 20th or 21st of March, it would've made the error even funnier.
  • edited March 2010
Well, "20th of March 21st" could also mean 19 days after March 21st.
  • edited March 2010
    Yes, there's still a chance!

I just noticed everyone has an eye for their avatars. Did I miss something again?

A pity the voice files are not exchangeable. I tried just copying the Mac's voice file over the PC version, but then, the game crashes immediately.
I'm surprised that no one actually tried this before.
