Well, I'm on the 'Ron, just finish it on your own' team, to see what was supposed to be... BUT... what about release a special edition of CMI (not touched, not re-done) just with an... 'alternate' ending?... or an 'alternate' storyline. It would be very similar to what companies do with films when they release them in DVD wih special features, alternate endings and scenes deleted.
You know what I mean?
I think it could be the best option to respect both 'crews'.
Actually making MI3 as originally intended by Ron would be pointless now that the series has moved on. However I would certainly love to see how he would have ended the series. A nice long blog post with a general outline would be all I desire.
The idea of it quite possibly
all taking place through the eyes of a child running around an amusement park letting his imagination run wild
was a great ending for LeChuck's Revenge, and I'd love to see where that storyline would have gone and wrapped up, or what would have happened if it the ending wasn't actually as it seemed (though there are tons of plants throughout the first two games that hint at it). I love Curse, but it always felt strange how they quickly explain away the events of 2 (though that is pretty much what you do when you're picking up a series and taking it in a new direction).
