My guess is nothing's happening until MI2:SE comes out....which could be anytime....probably July like SMI:SE was.

What is it that everyone has against Friends anyway? I mean, it's not any worse than any other sitcom...
  • edited April 2010
I blame the horrible theme song, since I don't think the show itself wasn't too bad.
  • edited April 2010

Nah, that's more Joey than Friends.
I can watch an episode of Friends, but only when there's nothing else on.
The jokes aren't that bad, it's just the huggy, happy, emo thing that comes up about every episode (especially in the later seasons.)
A friend of mine corrected the title to "Softies in New York".

If it's his nephew, it's probably his brother/sister's kid or his wife's brother/sister's kid or something (unless it's a further-related nephew).

His uncle and aunt's kid would be his cousin.

Chandeleur is a French (worked) holiday, the 2nd of February, and it's celebrated by eating crepes.

So you eat the cast of friends?

Crepes, not creeps. Don't try to put words (or famous actors) into my mouth.

My sister and brother-in-law just named him Chandler Sean. They didn't name him after Chandler Bing from Friends.

Also their younger son's name is Logan Wade, and no he's not named after Wolverine.

Well, it turns out that we're having his birthday party on May 1st together with other family whose birthdays are in May (for reasons which would make this post rather long for me to explain.)

I want to buy the game for my nephew, and include the fixes available from LordTrilobyte's mod/fix post on this forum.

    So, should I:

    1) Buy the game from Steam and burn it (and a folder with the fixes) to a disc to give on May 1st.

    2) Buy the game from Steam, burn a folder with the fixes onto a disc, having his family download the game from Steam (though I'd rather gift a hard copy even if it's burned) and give it to him on May 1st at the party.

    3) Buy the game from Direct2Drive and and burn it (and a folder with the fixes) to a disc to give on May 1st.

    4) Buy the game from Direct2Drive, burn a folder with the fixes onto a disc, having his family download the game from Direct2Drive (though I'd rather gift a hard copy even if it's burned) and give it to him on May 1st at the party

    5) Hope and pray that the TTG Store will start selling SMI:SE by early June and give it to him then, on his actual birthday.

Also, do you guys know if the Steam or Direct2Drive versions of the game are easily modded or burnable? Which versions to you all have?
  • edited April 2010
I have the Steam version and have no problems modding it. I'm not sure what to suggest for how you should proceed, though.

    Yeah, I always confuse those.
In the Netherlands we just have one word for both of them: Neef.

Interesting, considering one is technically one generation "under" you and the other the same as yours (of course your nephew can be older than you are if you have a big age difference with your sibling, but you know what mean).

In French stepmother and mother-in-law (or stepfather/father-in-law) are the same.

Hehe, silly French. Actually, to make it even more complicated. My Neice has 2 children whom I also refer to as Neefjes (Nephews.)

It makes SOME sense though. One is your parent's spouse, the other is your spouse's parent.

Kinda like your brother/sister-in-law can be your sibling's spouse or your spouse's sibling.

Wow... Either it's really late or you've given this a LOT of thought...
    Or both...

Also, in English, "cousin" is the only family word that doesn't have a female and a male version. You have (grand)mother/(grand)father, (grand)daughter/(grand)son, sister/brother, aunt/uncle, niece/nephew... but only cousin.

You have other gender neutral words ((grand)parent, (grand)child, sibling) but cousin is the other one for which gendered versions don't even exist.

I would assume both are modded similarly, since it just involves adding files to the folder where you installed the game, or where Steam installs the game.

Steam supports making backups of your games, this page explains how to do that. If you've got the game on Steam, you could burn a backup of it on a DVD and give that to your nephew. That way you've got a hardcopy to give, and your nephew won't have to wait for it to download.
I'm not entirely sure backups made with one account are usable on another, but since they're just copies of files, I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be. Especially since SoMI:SE is installed in 'steamapps\common', and not in 'steamapps\[username]', so the install is not connected to any specific user.
And since the backup of the game is only 1.34GB (I just tried it), there's plenty of room on a DVD-R to add LordTrilobyte's fixes in a separate folder.

    I hope that helps!

Mind you that the fixes aren't done yet, burning those on a rewritable is probably best.

I'f like to know this aswell. As much as steam fits it's purpose, i hate the way the steam client automatically goes to the shop page, and does an advertisement pop-up screen. I want to play games i've already bought, not by more! If i wanted to buy more, i'd go on the website!

I don't mind TTG's client as much, as It's just one game, usually with some nice artwork on diplay, and ties in with the "play now" thing. It would have been wasted space otherwise.

im with you on that one,ive bought mine off steam aswell, but what would be a bonus if buying it off telltales if they released both on DVD, so i can finally have a hard copy of the special editions :) (so i soooo hope that happens)

If you launch Steam games using their individual desktop or start menu icons, you never have to open the Steam client unless you want to. It doesn't stop the pop-up when you exit, however.

Also, if you right click the Steam icon in the taskbar you can go straight to your "My Games" page without having to see the store.

ETA: I wouldn't hold my breath about a DVD version ever happening.

That's really easily fixed, to be honest:

    steamfixed.jpg

That way, my games list opens exactly where it was when I shut down the Steam client (i.e. in small mode on my second screen) and there's no sign of the store or upgrade notifications, although I leave the latter turned on since I do like getting informed what's newly available on Steam...

Is it me, or is the Monkey Island Bundle completly redundant.
I all ready own both games and I feel ripped off seeing the current offer.
Maybe Telltale can ship my DVD for free as a special offer, which I haven't ordered yet since telltale seems to ask a rediculous amount for shipping... The price is like the DVD must weigh a ton.
When I ship a bigger and heavier package to the states it will only cost me $ 7,- or $ 8,-, Telltale asks double that amount....
This and the current Monkey-Deal made a pretty huge dent in the love I had for this company and it's games.

Are you kidding me? Is complaining all you can do? They're always giving out bundle deals for everything. It's just the way things are. Too bad we missed this sweet deal, but you pay for getting it when you wanted it in that case. All those people who waited to pay are lucky now. It's just too bad for us. Get over it. Stop acting like a baby.

No complaining is not all I do... But if I order the complete set now it will cost me about $ 37,- ($ 19,99 + $16,99) including shipping... and that is with the actual gamedisc still on back order.

while I paid $ 34,99 + $ 9,99 for the games allready and have to pay $ 17,- for the shipping to be in the exact same situation. that is over $ 60,- for something that is on backorder and hasn't been shipped yet... I think I have a right to complain. And I fail to see how this is acting like a baby.
I don't know how it is in the states, but in europe telltale would be legally obligated to give a refund in some way in this situation.

Only for a product that hasn't been released yet. And it has. For months. You can play it, just because you don't have the physical DVD doesn't meant it's "not out". Compare with SE which doesn't have a DVD to begin with, does that mean they'll have to refund everyone if they ever change the price, because it's a product that's "not out yet"?
