So this paper is 85 pages, probably the longest I've ever written. Guess that's why it's my thesis.

Anyway, super stressed about getting this in next week.

You only need to write roughly the equivalent of 1/7 this thread though!

Dashing? Oh, that's easy. He's in a torrid affair with a woman who loves his best friend. I live nearby, I can confirm it.

Is she TEARING HIM APART, Lisa? I mean, Pants?

Crap. The NJ Blind Library will no longer carry large print reading material- only books in Braille.

Big NOOOOOOOOO! I wanted to read Howl's Moving Castle next! I started it and had to return it!

I live in New Jersey, and the two nearest libraries near me both have relatively decently sized large print sections. Just search for nearby ones and call up and see.

Darn it! I'm depressed! I hate my life! I hate having feelings, but hey my life is pretty damn good. But these feelings, these choices, and all this think think think think think THINK!!!!

Some times, I just don't know how to unwind and calm down and everything is so twisted and warped within manifestation that as everything unfolds it's like what, why, when, who, how, what the hell is going on!? WHY IS IT GOING ON!? This is reality? This is what I sought out, deserve, this but then maybe there's more and then i can't achieve more and then I can't achieve more! Choices! Choices! Decisions and out comes and am I hindered am I not!?

    What is going on!?

IS there more or is this all there is!? Is this a bit of fantasy or is this ALL reality?

How do I know? How do I make sense of it!? HOW!?

Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.

Yeah, I know, not the right beginning, but I take them where I can.

And I honestly don't know if we are even real, Are the stuff we do a show within a show? Are we lampshading something as people watch us? I don't know. This occasionally keeps me up at night. If I assume that nothing is real, will I poof out of existence?

DAMMIT, RIBS. I read that and my first thought was Gabe Newell and Half-Life 2 Episode 3. Penny Arcade Adventures is such old news, I think that Tycho's already finished posting all of episode 3 as prose.

I'm much happier now that I've got my computer working again. Had to do a clean re-install of Windows but at least I was able just about to get what stuff I wanted to keep onto my 2nd hard drive even though I could only use command prompt to access my stuff. Now it'll take ages to get my computer near to what it was when it last worked, but ain't gonna rush off and re-install everything else I had on here.

I was right. Here's the prose version of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode Three.

I refuse to read the Episode 3 story on the grounds that I haven't given up believing that they'll make another game.

.... even though everyone involved said it won't happen.

    But I refuse to surrender!

Well, I suppose everyone needs something to believe in. I'd quote Terry Pratchett here, but I don't feel like looking up a quote right now. So just go read The Hogfather and all will be fine.

I guess you know what the conclusion to that is, right?
You have to learn Braille now!

Joking aside, I've tried to learn it. It's really hard when you can see and your fingers aren't superhuman and able to differentiate between bumps. I wonder if I would have a better chance learning if I wore a blindfold 24/7 until I mastered it :P

But I CAN read Braille, actually. I used to work at a school for the blind and I often was the one to type out signs on the Braille typewriter. (those things are a ton of fun to mess with, by the way- you can make some awesome touch art that can be seen with the hands)

Anyway, when I want to read a book, I want to READ it- not listen to the ahe audiobook or read a Braille copy. I like those too, but sOmetimes I just want a book.
  • edited April 2011
I can relate to that, I guess. Cool that you do know Braille, it would come in handy.
As a teenager, I wanted to learn Braille so I could take my meds without turning the lights on >.> (Meds in France have their name in Braille "over" ("under") the written name of them).

Here, actually, an example, although I'm not sure how well one can tell since the picture is small (and you even less so that your average person).

    levothyrox.jpg

It's a rather selfish and silly reason for learning a new alphabet/way of reading, I realise.
I also had a blind teacher in high school (Spanish teacher) and there was a blind student who had a Braille computer to take notes with in high school, although we never shared classes.

Incidentally, although I'm not sure anyone other than me cares about that kind of stuff, Braille is not capitalized in French, only in English.

I bought Mass Effect for PC from Steam for $20. It may have been available retail in-store elsewhere for cheaper, but tbh I didn't really check. I've grown to like being able to download purchased games at will from the net. I do like Steam, but not for the chat community. In fact, I currently only have 2 Steam friends.

[EDIT:] Also, I found Mass Effect available for download from GameStop for $10, but I decided against it so as to keep more of my games together on Steam, and because GameStop is reportedly killing the supply side of the game industry.[/edit]

I dislike CD-checking DRM (which I usually crack) as well I seem to be amassing disc-ripped .iso's (which I made myself, btw) of programs I own anyway just to keep from ever having to bother with using an actual disc. I suppose it then follows that I would eventually grow to like having my game installs stored in the cloud.

Oh... about Mass Effect. It's great. Is this game supposed to be included among the glut of shooters that old-school gamers are annoyed about having flooded the market? If so, I'm not sure why since it's not like any other normal shooter I've played. tbh, the dialogue wheel in Mass Effect greatly reminds me of Sam&Max S3, (and playing any game that reminds me of Sam & Max is a plus. :))
