Well, surgery is in 13 hours. Wish me luck!

I hope all is going well with you, divisionten!

I'm not even going to try to run The Witcher 2 on it.
Why? Because I tried running The Witcher 1 on it the other day.
It managed it fine, however, my laptop was over the 80 degree mark.
I was afraid playing it beyond the tutorial part may melt my laptop.

I have much the same problem with my laptop with the first Witcher...to the point where sometimes the whole game just randomly shuts down. What I found is that things run a lot more smoothly if you run it in windowed mode at a lower resolution and then prop your laptop up on something (I use two pens) so that an air current can get underneath your computer. Not perfect, but a whole lot cheaper than buying a new computer.

Of course, if you were going to buy a new computer anyways...that's a perfectly acceptable solution as well.

Of course. They have to under penalty of torture.

They always charged too much for it anyway.

You mean me bitching about it. :D

I thought I had answered that already, sorry.
No, I don't mean you. Plenty of people have complained about post count related issues ever since the thread was moved. I don't see why it's such a big deal that our post counts got smaller, especially when they don't mean anything. I mean, one person can write a long, thoughtful post, and another a one-liner and they're "worth" the same.
Plenty of posts in this thread were pretty much "useless", if we're rating posts, therefore even if we were to count posts it would make sense not to count these (even though a few noteworthy posts were made here and there). But I still think it would be better if they weren't counted at all.
For one thing it would prevent people from posting just to inflate their count, or double posting instead of editing, etc. But also, someone who is new to the forums might base their opinion of other users from a post count, think "oh, this user has lots of post, they must be a reliable member of the community". When the person in question might just be a huge troll or an attention whore, and more quiet but more helpful members would suddenly be considered less "valuable" as far as advice giving goes.

People should be judged by the content of their posts, not how many they have made. I wasn't really bothered by the fact the post count shows because I never look at the thing, and I thought it wasn't really worth changing something I was mostly apathetic about. But if it's starting to cause people to complain, and considering there seems to have been more people trying to inflate their post counts lately than, say, a year ago, I would definitely vote to hide post count if there was a vote about it.

My copy of LA Noire is showing up tomorrow while I'm at the dentist. Doesn't that make it sooo much worse? Now I'll be lying there. "Man, I really wish I was playing that game" ...next they'll tell me the PSN shop is back up 5min before I leave.

Well, I just thought everyone here, especially divisionten, would be interested in some random biochemistry stuff, so I'll just tell you about how palmitoyl-CoA is broken down into an enoyl-CoA and acetyl-CoA. Basically, your palmitoyl-CoA gets converted by acyl-CoA dehydrogenase into trans-delta-two-enoyl-CoA. It then gets hydrated by enoyl-CoA hydratase into Beta-hydroxyacyl-CoA. This gets converted by hydroxyacyl dehydrogenase into Beta-hydroxyacetyl-CoA. Which is then broken by a thiolase into enoyl-CoA and acetyl-CoA.

See? Science can be fun!! Especially when it is used for EVIL!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!

Okay guys, you've had your fun, now that's enough.

Edit: Fawful, I'm serious. Don't do that again.

Awww, and here I was, ready to post this cool ASCII art I just found. Oh, well.

Glad to hear you're doing well, divisionten!

Anyway, I found a neat little easter egg. In Firefox, try searching for "ascii art" using Google in the browser's search box.
It shows the "Google" image in ascii text

    Fact of the day.
Hippopotomonstrosusquipidaliophobia is the fear of long words.

That and only Drew Carey and his improv shows can turn a story about a show salesman to a sing along about men becoming women.

What the hell did I just read.

There were words, and they were vaguely scientific, but they didn't mean what the author thought they meant. For one thing, glycolysis is the MAIN way that your body metabolizes biochemical compounds. Not an alternate way. Also, mitochondria are not cells, they are organelles. And cancer cells are "immortal" due to telemerase, an enzyme that prevents their DNA from degrading with each replication (which is what happens with normal cells' DNA). I can't talk about the validity of the "on/off switch" because I have no idea what they are referring to--there are any number of processes that can be inhibited to kill a cell.

Now, I'm not saying that it's completely impossible for cancer to be cured or even that it hasn't been, in fact, cured by someone in your city, but there is some very key information missing from this article because what I've been reading doesn't make any sense. The link attached is slightly better, but I'm still not entirely sure exactly how this drug works...and I'm not sure they do yet either.

Also, in mildly related news, someone in my city cured cancer as well.
  • edited May 2011
oh i know. It's obvious whoever wrote it was just writing on something they read.

It goes in depth here. The university has released the information that trials of isolated cells have proven effective, but human trials have not gone forward yet....and that's where most "cures" falter.

so emails have been sent out giving subscribers small changes to Madden 12. They touched on Superstar Mode but failed to answer one important question.... Will it actually work this time? I'm going to wait to find out on this one. How can the NHL series be masterpieces and the Madden ones be so glitchy...They ARE an American company right? dumbasses. Good thing I like hockey.

As a mod, I still heard all of those posts, even the deleted ones. Just be glad my dad was in the basement practicing for his next rock concert in the city- he plays the electric guitar. So. Paint. Don't do that again.

My dad [had] a good scare with the Madden football screaming.

why would a TTS program yell just because something is in all caps?

I have a Kindle and TextAloud, and neither of those yell text that's in all caps.

Also your program screaming in all caps reminds me of when someone jumped on me screaming "DO YOU KNOW THE MUFFIN MAN?" Random, scary, and hilarious.
