I probably watched too much Rugrats growing up, it's left odd traces in my brain. Like how often when I hear the word "gross", my mind helpfully conjures up this.

Bleh. Work can be soooo boring sometimes.

It wasn't a bad day, but I was uncharacteristically struggling with it.

I shouldn't have been so tired in the morning, but I was.
I almost fell asleep, (or blacking out or some odd thing I do), while I was working.
I haven't done that since I was at uni.
(I think it has something to do with boredom or dehydration)

I was better once I had some cereal to eat.
(Didn't have any cereal this morning since we ran out of milk. Had scrambled egg on toast. Not so bad if the scrambled egg didn't look like it was made by the people who brought you aeroplane food! (I had no milk! Remember! Also no Bacon either. :'())

    Still no overtime either.
Shame, since I could do with some extra dough.
I get paid soon, so its not so bad.

At least I'll have spending money for my holiday.
God I am looking forward to that. Sooooooooo baaadddllllyyyy!!!

I really need to do something.
Maybe play some more Deus Ex: Human Revolution tomorrow.

Still need to beat Mass Effect. But the game can drag on quite a bit.
Plus its still tough actually getting consistant TV access.

Oh, the joys of living with the family.

(Well, I don't think I'd have it any other way! XD)

My brother is turning 30 this weekend so I'm going to my dad's place. People who know me will know that this is stressful, as I don't get along with my family, and considering the circumstances my mother is likely to be there (she's the one I have most trouble with).
On the other hand I don't want to miss it. I get along okay with my brothers, more or less, and this one is the one I get along with the best, and I haven't seen him in years. Plus, I'm going to meet his girlfriend, that everyone else met like two years ago, but I was in another continent at the time so I don't know anything about her, and he probably wants me to meet her as she's an important person in his life.

Anyways, this weekend is going to be stressful for me. I wish there was a way to go there without seeing my mother at all, I managed to avoid her for the most part last time because my youngest brother wants nothing to do with her (he's upset that she left a few months ago) but her son is turning 30 so... yeah, I don't think I can avoid it at all, she's going to want to be there. I'll try to avoid interacting with her I guess.

Today, on The Joys of Being Poor, your hostess Avistew shows you how to cut off the mouldy parts of your vegetables before throwing them in the pan, and explains how buying smaller portions would prevent this problem, but would also be expensive enough that you wouldn't be able to have veggies as often.
    Today's lesson: compromises are fun!

You could also try cooking them all early and then freezing them, to be reheated as necessary. I've done that before and its turned out alright, though it's technically not fresh anymore once you've done it...

    Frozen peas are great.

The other veg, not so much.

And frozen roast potatoes are NOTHING LIKE real roast potatoes.

Aunt Bessie, you may have excellent yorkshire, and pretty good parsnips, but your potatoes are dire!!

I normally cook the roast dinner every sunday, and I can tell you.
Carrots, Potatoes, Swede, Parsnisps keep very well.
(Well a Swede will keep for a good week and a bit in the fridge, same with Parsnips, but Carrots and Potatoes are so damn hardy. (Potatoes grow roots, but you can just pick those off))
Brocolli, and Cauliflour, not very well at all.

Best to get a small cauli and/or brocolli each week, and use them up.
If you got extra, then they both go pretty well with a white sauce, and maybe some cheese (well a cheesy sauce)
    Brocolli mostly with Pasta, yum.
(So making your own version of cheese and brocolli pasta that you find in those packs)
Cauliflour Cheese I'd eat more often, but being a tall, bulky man, it doesn't really fill me up much.

Another veg meal we like to do is get courgettes, parsnips, sweet potato (lovely stuff), carrot, and sometimes roast potato and brocolli (not ideal, as it burns easily, best to steam the softer veg if possible) depending on what needs to be used up, and we part-boil and slowly roast those veg together in some oil.

Very very nice, especially with some sausages.
(Which are pretty cheap here in the UK at least. Richmonds are usually on offer a lot, and I highly recommend them. About £2 a packet of 8 thick, and they cook very well, (unless you have a dodgy frying pan), and are DELICIOUS. I tend to cook a whole pack, eat some ,then use the rest in sandwiches (have to let them cool down first obviously! XD)
Frozen Burgers are just as good as their fresh counterparts.
(Birdseye do great small burgers, but I personally love the Quarter Pounder. Tesco do an excellent 4 pack, thats scrummy in a nice bun, with some lettuce, coleslaw, and a bit of sauce)
In fact, meat almost always freezes well.
Though I recommend that you buy reduced meat from a supermarket, like a pack of mince, then store it in the freezer till needed, then defrost overnight.

Try to avoid already frozen processed meat like Sausages and Mince though. Normally that stuff is just cheap, and not very nice at all.

I guess it all just comes down to trial and error really.

Hey, I might actually try it I was just trying to make you laugh. HAHA, but most important is your own personal achievements, at least you've been self honest and done something with your life. So many people sell their selves short and don't do ANYTHING. I'll have to try your recipe. I was just trying to make you laugh, not so much as poking you or jesting.

This is beautiful. He was very human, more human than some people will ever know how to be. He left the Beatles, he said, because he didn't want to pretend to always be happy and felt like he was selling his soul. This man knew everything about being balanced, human, this man was at inner peace.

Dude. I was just using that comment as a set-up to continue to talk about food! XD

Besides, I work at a supermarket, am a student, and have quite prudent parents.

    Good upbringing I would say.

They always encouraged, and helped me to be as independant as possible.

They were quite strict sometimes, but mostly fair.

I mean even now, I will NEVER open or eat anything I haven't bought yet.
And I see how parents give in and bribe kids these days, and it makes me worried.

I see a lot of people my age act impulsive, impatient, and at times pretty rude and disrespectful, and I wonder if it will get even worse next generation.

    GOD! I FEEL OLD!!

(And I'm only bloody 20... I'm such a bizarre mix of old fashioned and outlandish
I mean, my idea of a good night would involve one or more of these:

    - Restuarant
    - Cinema
    - Theatre
    - A walk and talk
    - Pub
    - A stay in. Talk, Play videogames, watch videos on youtube or maybe a funny DVD

Most people I see go to those nightclubs with the rubbish, too-loud-to-think music, bar crawls (I couldn't have more than 2 or 3 drinks in a night. Think of the cost man!), or hanging around somewhere inconvenient)

That implies I have a freezer, though.

EDIT: Okay, I'm not being quite honest here. The top part of my fridge does have an under freezing temperature section. However I would need to have storage stuff that closes. As it is, I put opened canned in my fridge the way they are because I don't have anything else to put them in. The problem is that as useful as they are, tupperware and the like require an original investment to acquire. I'm gathering jars though, by keeping the ones food comes in. But jars are too high to fit in the freezing section, which is obviously meant for making icecubes and not much more.

Anyways, I appreciate the advice, everyone :)

If it isn't too liquid-y, you can use freezer bags, which don't cost quite as much as those containers. Or aluminum foil.

In the U.S., you can buy really cheap containers that work like Tupperware but without the brand name expense. KFC (sorry, Cockerel!) even now gives out reusable containers with its side-items, so you could theoretically take them home and reuse them for something. I usually just throw them out, though. I hate leftovers.

I'm assuming the accident wasn't actually your fault, just the six-inch heels. (How could she dance in those, anyway?) Make her a homemade sorry-you-took-a-spill card and say you hope she's feeling better, and maybe that will make you feel better, too (even if there isn't a second date).

Tupperware isn't necessary for freezing things. I've found that you can get similar results with some sturdy gallon ziplock plastic bags. Maybe use two for extra protection. But they can be reused with a quick wash and are a whole lot less expensive. You get more per pack as well.

Edit: Ack! Ninja'd. What Warpspeed said.
  • edited August 2011
I'm probably not going to buy freezer bags or aluminium foil, however I had cream cheese this week so I'm going to be keeping that, and as I was saying there was also a jar of pasta sauce from last week that I can use. Honestly, I'd rather use stuff I already do have than make a special purchase, although if I end up buying something I'll make sure to consider the bags as a cheaper alternative.

If I eat out sometime I'll consider that too, although I don't think there is a KFC in this town, but quite honestly, I can eat for a at least week with what a single fast food meal costs so I don't really eat out at all.
  • edited August 2011
I'd save some KFC containers and ship them to you, except for what the postage would cost, it would probably be cheaper for me to just pay your food bill for a couple of weeks! The cream cheese container sounds like a good idea, as long as you don't put anything extremely hot into it. Good luck!

edit: on a different topic, I find that certain mods (like Guru) can be a bit... erm, thread-lock happy at times. I was just now catching up on the Video Game Crushes thread in General Chat, and it seems to me that Guru locked the thread just because various people had stopped being serious and had instead carried the topic to the point of high hilarity.

Pong was funny. The rest was starting to get depraved. Cracking a joke is one thing, but derailing it into a forum game is annoying. And we've already done the joke crushes thing. And that thread is already a sore subject for me, after I had that fight with Lonnie (which I deleted before reopening it to avoid bringing the argument back up).

Without order, balance, there is chaos, with too much balance, order, there is protest. With too little balance, order, there is protest. But the all these things with a healthy balance make for happy mods and happy users.

So, have your say, and even disagree, but over all he does a great job. Even if he makes some personal calls he or you may consider a fault worthy decision.

I can't imagine I'm saying anything worth while right now as I had a side of lust today and I'm usually punished for that by god (s)...

Yeah, Lonnie, he was different, but we all know you for a better person, and Lonnie too, because he's gone now and has something to think about.

Where the hell is Davies...a few members just disappeared.

The reason why I was thinking about it to the point of posting was because I find my recent forays into the TTG forums have been... well, uneventful. Then I stumbled again upon the aforementioned thread and, though it was very funny (to me), it had also been locked, thus bringing further visits to what I thought was an amusing thread to an unceremonious halt.
