There was a big speech on your campus today about protests in the 1960s.

I missed it. But we did talk about previous protests in my history class and how the Occupy movement doesn't seem to have quite as much organization as the Civil Rights movement.

And then, when people started ranting about the police brutality last week on campus, my professor (who originally came from Lebanon) started laughing. I totally hear him...we really haven't had anything much happen yet.

Yes I had a few friends in Iran during the crackdown on the Green Movement. So there's nothing comparable to what's happened in the Near East.

Well, I am moderately worried that it might start to get worse. There's been some people talking about violence. Luckily, they are in the extreme minority, but it really only takes one idiot to ruin things for everyone.
  • edited November 2011
I wouldn't worry about it. It's highly unlikely that someone who isn't even involved and does their best not to be involved would be first in line to be a victim of violence.

I'm more worried about the more radical members bursting into the science buildings and dragging us off to be in the front line. Because...that's sorta happened. Well, they pulled the fire alarms so that the "apathetic science majors" would feel inspired to go protest. It did not create any sympathy to their cause, let me tell you...especially among those who were in the middle of a midterm.

I thought you knew martial arts. Rig a trap on the doors so that if they open them they're sprayed with skin melting acid.
  • edited November 2011
I do, but my experience with the zombie horde drill taught me very quickly that martial arts are not quite as effective once you get to over three people. Unless you're Jackie Chan, in which case they're more effective.

Hurt as many people as you can then. If necessary, kill them all. The double dealing pilfering parasites! Kidnappers! Marauders! Aztecs! Babysnatchers! Baby-faced assassins!

But are they trained in Tae Kwon Leap? This is the real question.

I really think my strategy at that point would be opting for the whole "discretion is the better part of valor" thing and legging it.

The Bat Credit Card has a few things over the horrendous Roger Rabbit sequence, including:

-It has proper shot flow, editing, and framing, so you can understand what the fuck is going on without going frame-by-frame
-It doesn't disobey all the rules set up by the cinematography of the scenes directly before and after it, or all the rules of proper cinematography *period*
-It is part of an already shitty movie, so it doesn't drag down an existing quality experience
    -It's shorter
-It does not toss out over 50 years' worth of characterization in order to shit in the faces of cultural icons.
-It isn't the result of giving Chuck Jones the finger

If you have a degree not needed for the job you're applying for, don't mention you have one.

I just downgraded to Firefox 7.

I installed Firefox 8 when it came out, but it forced me to also update the version of the theme I use (FXChrome). The FF8 compatible versions of FXChrome make my installed game toolbar too tall in Windows 7, so I downgraded to Firefox 7 on my desktop pc so that I can have FXChrome v5, which sizes the toolbar correctly.

I did try using the Shine Bright Skin theme with FF8 instead as it is similar, but it only swaps one issue for another in that my game toolbar is the right size, but is aero glass transparent when Firefox is maximized (ie. hard to read with a dark wallpaper).

I love the practices that are completely applications based. No endless throw repetitions or lines of kicking or getting sat on in groundwork. Just someone attacking and I get to do what comes naturally...scream like a girl and run away.

    I've had lots of practice.:D

Well, great. Why did I go to college in the first place if having a degree won't help me get a job, but not having one will help me get one?

Soooo, any good GOG reccomendation? I'm one of the ten winners of the first day of the GOG week(end) contest, so I need a good suggestion.

Some games I have in consideration, and why I'm doubting:

Beyond Good & Evil - I already have this game a countless amount of times

Capitalism 2 - After a while it gets boring, also, I feel like a cheapskate for picking a $9,99 game

Creatures Exodus / Village - I actually found out the Creatures series are boring, only want it for completion

Dungeon Keeper - Already have Dungeon Keeper 2, and that game already works

Little Big Adventure - Never really played the original, so I don't have any nostalgic feeling with it, also, in comparison to Little Big Adventure 2, which I did play, it might look aged

Messiah - I never played it past the first few rooms, mostly because I just suck in the game

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - I loved the game because I could mod it, but for the rest I lost interest in Civilization and this spin-off

I'll be making my choice tonight.

Adventure: The Last Express. This one is easily one of my favorite adventure games ever, and you'll never find another game like it. The world is beautiful, captivating, and LIVING. Things happen in real-time around you, and while some things trigger based on where you are in the world, for the most part time matters. Puzzles have multiple solutions, many of them with different consequences and that open up different paths. This is the game that exemplifies what I always thought adventure games would evolve into, and they never did.

I'm not even going to recommend other adventure games. Fuck the entire rest of the GOG catalog, hell, fuck the entire rest of the genre. People have to play this.

Western RPGs: Fallout 1 & 2, Arcanm: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Planescape: Torment. Lionheart is also INCREDIBLY underrated and deserves a look if you enjoyed Fallout and Arcanum.

Strategy: Desperadoes: Wanted Dead or Alive. Essentially Commandos in a Wild West setting. The hand-painted backgrounds are gorgeous, the gameplay feels more open to other possible approaches than Commandos to me, the story is more enjoyable than in the Commandos series, and honestly this game really is a forgotten gem of its era.

This or Sacrifice, which is another one of those "You'll never see a game like this again" games. It's less well-refined, but has a lot of interesting ideas and presentation.
