Meh part of the fun is knowing I'm flooding this place with info only I care about.

WWE 12 is only a few days away!

Hey, Guru. I have a link that'll make you weep. (Zelda completionism related)

Meh. I'm doing just fine on my own. I can finish Ocarina of Time through Spirit Tracks by Christmas, and there's a very good possibility that I can finish Skyward Sword between Christmas and New Year's. The only real snag was Zelda II, and I'm past it now.

You'll be comforted to know, my best friend is equally excited and might actually talk me into trying it. I loved the No Mercy > the "shut your mouth" sequel(get some? or something) games but then they changed mechanics and I stopped caring because it got to complex for once a week, 30min games. Told me they're making this one more casual again.

Yeah that's one of the reasons I rly want this game its returning to the older style I liked and still keeping the new features (like make your own finisher and now ring).

The WWE Smackdown Shut your Mouth sequel was Here Comes the Pain and the developers said the controls are similar to that game.

Conversations about wrist cutting make my wrists hurt. Seriously, they even hurt as I was typing that. The very thought of it makes me uncomfortable to the point where it causes me pain.

Last year in Psychology class at one point we were talking about that and why people doing that, I eventually had to yell at everyone to change the subject, despite asking nicely several times. I nearly had a panic attack.

Neil Gaiman is going to be on the Simpsons tomorrow. Even though I don't normally watch that show...I am the excited.

I've never been much of an anime guy, but there's just so much of it on Netflix that I decided to give some a try. I'm currently watching something called Elfen Lied.

    JESUS CHRIST.

    Is anime usually this brutal!?

Not that much, you just made the mistake of watching Elfen Lied first.

Anime comes in all different flavors. At first, I'll admit, it's sometimes difficult to figure out which ones you'll like the most.

Personally, I tend towards shonen, which are basically action-y type anime, and dramas, though I also like the ones that have a good dose of humor in them as well.

I'd suggest Full Metal Alchemist (the original one...not Brotherhood) or Death Note as they have a good, interesting mix of different genre types.

Elfen Lied is extremely brutal. It's one of the Main Explicit anime that are really strong atmospherically and devastatingly hard to watch. Speaking of anime like that, you should watch Neon Genesis Evangelion and Berserk and Basilisk next.

@Alcore: FMA isn't shounen. Or at least, it's a deconstruction of shounen. SHUT UP JOSH.

Then why was it serialized in Monthly Shōnen Gangan?

Sigh. Here we go. I was talking about the anime directed by Seiji Mizushima. The manga I haven't really studied on this so I can't say either way but my first answer would be that it's pretty shounen in comparison, especially considering halfway through it becomes focused entirely on taking out the bad guys one by one before taking out the big bad. In the first anime, the villains don't serve a shounen setup.

That's why I said it was a mixture of genres.

Shonen is a target audience, not really a "genre", per se. While many tropes are attached to works made for that target demographic, especially from certain publications(Shonen Jump in particular), to call it a "genre" is at the very least slightly disingenuous.

Shrug. All right, a deconstruction of shounen tropes. Many it doesn't even use, or spits in the face of. For instance, the villain has no desire to escape the heroes until the end. However, as soon as she does, she's killed by one of her own creations. This spits in the face of what I'll call the Miraku trope "hahaha you defeated me!? well too bad because I have an airship and I'm getting away wehehehehehe!"

It delves into deeper philosophical questions that most shounen never would, such as questions surrounding Al's existence. Is he human? How does he, and we, know that he's not just a creation of alchemy, made by his brother with false memories to help Edward find the philosopher stone for himself? How can we, and Al, know he's real? And then it throws a lot of uncertainty about Al's memories into the mix, plus uncertainty and suspense surrounding Edward to make us wonder if Edward is really a liar and a villain.

By the end of the show, thousands if not millions of people have fallen because of the villains and the heroes inability to become stronger to save others. They're only children, not gods, and the show constantly enforces the idea that no matter what kind of knowledge the Elrics have, they're still children, and they have human limits like the rest of us. At the end of the day, Edward's military rank can disappear, and he can be thrown in prison or shot. Alphonse could easily become a test subject. Three of the big bads survive, whereabouts unknown. Over a dozen main characters are dead or seriously injured. No one gets exactly what they wanted, and the repercussions of everyone's motivations clashing, mixing, and affecting others are serious and mostly unhappy.

Everyone has well-written motivations, and none of them involve outright wanting to defeat each other.

The fact that I'm losing my ability to play video games during a time where I can't afford to upgrade my computer (or iPod now...) is making me very depressing during a time when my depression is at its worse thanks to the commercial bombardment of the season.

I don't know which I want more now: a job or someone to give me a PS3 and Skyrim so I can play the game all the cool kids have been playing. :(

I would say that that is because the people who act miserable when they are upset get help and support from the people around them...but the people who bottle it up inside and maintain a cheerful exterior have no one to turn to.

Who wants to edit my tourism presentation? Or at least look it over?

Edit, also, Pants is right about FMA being shonen. Those designations in Japan are based on the target demo of the product, and have nothing to do with genre conventions( or any periphery demos that buy said product like bronies).
