    Thank you.

kinsey was a hetero dude interested in the subject of human sexuality. im not sure why he would have skewed the data to make people look more gay.

I agree. This is all getting a little silly.

(I kind of wish I hadn't brought this topic up in the first place now. But it was bugging me and I had to vent a little, but I had no idea it would have lead to this. Come on people! Most of us are adults here. Lets have a reasonably clean conversation here, or just move on to something else. Something random preferably! :D)

    Lets talk about hats!

People are not wearing enough hats!

I don't have to be an expert in the field to have an educated opinion. If that were the case, then no one should be allowed to vote in political races unless they have a degree in political studies, follow every aspect of every race and/or know each candidate personally.
The Kinsey Scale has nothing to do with statistical analysis or third-party observation, and in fact is entirely a matter of self-selection. Saying the things you are saying shows a complete unfamiliarity with the material you are talking about. You can't just rush into judging something without having any idea what that thing is. No matter how you skew it, yes, KNOWING WHAT A THING IS IS VERY HELPFUL.

I'm not sure what it matters as long as we allow each other to live our lives. Whether the opinion arises from religous, personal or scientific reasons. When everyone thinks alike, nobody is thinking. This is America, the marketplace of ideas is all that matters. Live and let live.

Well if you'd asked me three years ago it would have been live and let die. But that was when I hated everything and everyone walking on the face of the planet.

Yeah, I guess I bring it up because I tend to respect those who can at least justify their opinions. Also I legitimately can't see a reason why it could be considered amoral for any reason. That idea baffles me to the core.

    And I mean this in the nicest way possible, I swear! >_>;

So my laptop seems to do this weird static thingie where it blurs specific parts of the screen at random times. Might need to have that checked...

It's not perfectly genetic. In the example of twins, when one is gay, there is a higher chance the twin shall be gay also. However, it's about 50% elevation which, while obviously hugely statistically significant, still leaves a large area where genes are tightly matched but sexuality still produces one heterosexual and one homosexual.

Well, now we're getting into twin studies, which is a fascinating field that nobody knows much about. While the fact that only one identical twin may be gay certainly seems to counter the fact that being gay is completely genetic, there's also the fact that even identical twins aren't exactly identical. Genetics is very complicated here, and even though the genome starts off as an identical copy, genes get turned on and off by processes we don't really understand. This probably is why identical twins have different patterns of freckles and different fingerprints, or why one twin can be very artistic and the other very science oriented.

Now, I'll confess, most of this is going off one paper and a National Geographic article, but I don't think we know enough about twins yet to start making conclusions off of them. I mean, we're still trying to find out if intelligence is genetic (though it really does look like that one is primarily inherited).

Of course not but there's no "gay" gene. It's a cluster of things, and I never said evidence to the contrary was absolute proof. But if homosexuality. Occurs across a spectrum then what degree of genetic influences are synergetic? And if we're going to acknowledge a cluster effect why are we excluding psychology?

This goes pretty deep into eukaryote genetics but the thing is that many if not all aspects of our being is dictated by many, many genes. That's why there is so much variation in what people look like, how they act, how intelligent they are, what allergies they have...

What this means is that as genes are turned on or turned off, or mutated, or if we get two of one gene and none of another, or only inherit a specific gene, we get a different phenotype. This is why eukaryote genetics is so incredibly hard. I mean, sure we've sequenced the human genome, but we don't know what 99% of those genes actually do. And even then, we don't know what combinations of them will create.

So does mean you're going to stop, drop, and animate?
  • edited March 2012
Sadly, no. If I was a stop-motion animator I'd do whatever it took to be on that crew, but I'm not and I doubt I could learn the entire trade and create a compelling portfolio in a week. =P

ALL THE SAME, the BEST TV SERIES EVER MADE has a special and they've recorded the voicework and it's in the animatic stage and they're hiring animators to animate it and it's COMING.

You spend YOUR spring breaks learning entire trades in a week? You must be a very talented woman by now!

I thought that's what spring breaks are for! Why else would they give us an ENTIRE WEEK in the middle of the semester?

You are not very well-versed in this exercise are you?

Also I have to get my state ID at the DMV.
