    What about Lobo?
Neither seibert (nor you) are Lobo, though.
The Superman I want to see is the kind where the whole world is going to be destroyed but then Superman's here and then we watch as the villain gets his stuff tore up. And then the villain says "Doh, Superman!" and ends up in jail or dead and Superman stands in front of an American flag or something, and there's no point ever where you think he might die. Keep Kryptonite out of it for once.

Here's the thing. Superman isn't supposed to be the one you fear for the safety of. Lois Lane is. Jimmy Olsen is. Superman is the force that comes along to save these characters when no one else can by doing awesome shit. The first movie got this right by KILLING Lois. If she's a compelling character done right, like Peggy Carter or Pepper Potts or such, then you'll fear for them. That's the Superman formula. Villain's gonna kill Lois and Jimmy, and Superman lifts a city and drops it on the bad guy or turns a tornado upside down or freezes a lava flow or whatever. I don't care if it's cliche, it's what I go to Superman for.
And again. Right on the money.

Let me combine these two issues. Superman is a badass. Superman is supposed to be a badass. To make him weak and emotionally vulnerable totally misses the point. also if suprman wrot liek tihs or wahtever and had bad grammer in his reporterings as clarkkent he wood total look like and dumbass a strong dumbass but still an dumbass.

I can't believe they charge you 800 MS Points to change your Gamertag on Games For Windows Live. "Bought" it anyways because those basterds cut my name short when I created my account.

    Rules of Fight Club
    1. You do not talk about FIGHT CLUB.
    2. You DO NOT talk about FIGHT CLUB.
    3. If someone says "stop,"goes limp or taps out the fight is over.
    4. Only two guys to a fight.
    5. One fight at a time.
    6. No shirts, no shoes.
    7. Fights will go on as long as they have to.
    8. If this is your first night at FIGHT CLUB, you HAVE to fight.

The reason is that Fight Club is basically used as a form of catharsis (ie. provides psychological relief through expression of strong emotions). As such, people are allowed to "vent" as much as they need to, and newcomers are prevented from chickening out. However, it is not intended to cause permanent injury, and having only one fight with only two guys at any one time makes Fight Club less likely for fights to get out of control.

As you know, the movie Fight Club is not about fights, but rather about one man's quest for sanity. Only said quest takes some rather bizarre and disturbing turns along the way,

And now my battery grip has arrived! :D

My PSP has finally reached its potential.

(Though I'm uncertain the adapter will last in the long-term. I'm hoping the copying directly from one drive to another was the cause of corruption of some of my MP3's, but I shall test it again later)

    The puzzlebox bag for today:

    Attachment not found.

Everything required to be a good wedding guest and/or sister of the groom!

I'm supposed to be an usher in the church or something... it's going to be difficult to behave. I really want to use this as the signal that the bride is coming.

Oh, and apparently the church is a converted carpet warehouse in an industrial area, next to a smash repairs shop and across the road from the most bogan house I've ever seen. I've compiled a dodgy little panorama from Google streetview to share (the church may be hard to spot at first... it's the one with the wheelie bins out front).

    3nLPkl.jpg

At the very least, it will certainly be a memorable day. :p

Now haul on there just one hot minute! I get how a person can be a bogan, but a house? I'm just imagining Lil' Wayne tracks leaking over the Wedding March in the church...

Probably the best bar I've ever been to is a secret members-only speakeasy in NYC that doesn't even carry vodka. Their reasoning is that good vodka being flavourless, it adds nothing to a drink beyond making it alcoholic. They have no menu, you just describe the kind of thing you want to the bartender (e.g. "something spicy and complicated"), and he'll make you the most amazing cocktail you've ever had in your life. They even hand-crack their ice with an ice pick, so you get a single huge chunk of ice that cools your drink without melting fast and watering it down. I love everything about it.

I like it a lot, the colour scheme's really nice. There's something that's bugging me and I can't put my finger on it, i'm hopeless at critiquing art i'm afraid.

If I learn to use my words i'll let you know. Keep up the good work DishyDashi. ;)

Ooh, very nice. I like how the mountains look more distant in this version. It gives the impression that the house is on the edge of a cliff.

That was what you're going for, right?

Though I would like to know why it seems bathed in shadow. Is there another mountain on the other side, or is just an overcast day in this scene?

The entire area takes place in a far north setting with muted light and overcast weather.

And yes this continues the pursuit to perfect the painting style that will be used in the game.

Have you been thinking about accents and things for the different characters/regions at all perchance?

I always notice that sort of thing in games, particularly adventures and RPGs.
VA'ing to me can be very make or break in slower paced games as the story's a far larger catalyst to your enjoyment.

When's your kickstarter going live? I reckon with the resources you could make us something pretty durned interesting.
  • edited March 2012
I am actually very wary of accents. I would rather have good voice acting than mediocre because I am trying to have people do accents, given that my funds will continue to be limited and VA's will be a tricky proposition.

As far as the kick starter, working on it again this weekend and then sending it live.

While it looks nicer than before, there's a problem in that it looks too hazy, like the viewer is not feeling well. The coloration of the back wall (near the tree) is wrong, causing it to seem to blend into the background. The tree seems half hazy and half not. Everything nearby should be non-hazy, unless the haze is an effect you're going for, in which case everything nearby should be equally hazy.

The lawn and bush on the right seem a bit too green for a wintery mountain landscape. I'd make them yellower or grayer.

I'm only making these remarks because I know you're aiming for perfection. Most people would probably think this is fine for a small-team effort.

It should be noted this was a speed paint done as a test painting. The artist in question did this in a super brief shot of time, on only a super brief amount of input and refinements yet.

Is Birth by Sleep the side game where you get to play as Donald and Goofy, serving the king before they meet Sora? ;p
  • edited March 2012
    What.
  • edited March 2012
    What.

What? Can't ya take a joke man! ;p

Lets be honest here, there are loads of spin offs, and most of them suck.

Storywise they are alright, but gameplay-wise they are pretty dull, mostly because they re-use the same assets from Kingdom Hearts 1 (and a few from 2 I think...).

That being said, Birth by Sleep so far has been interesting, (though the voice acting has been pretty bizarrely done, considering the first two games, and Days had some good voice acting), mostly due to new characters and locations, and admittadely I've already pre-ordered the 3DS game.

(I definately want to play 3 and FINALLY see some conclusion. Its driving me crazy, making me halucinate spin-offs that might not actually exist! XD)

Ahem. I take offense when people call non-numbered titles "spin-offs" or "side games". They're all important, dammit.

That's what Kingdom Hearts 3D is building up to. It's putting all the pieces in place to set up a conclusion to the series so far (what will likely be called the "Xehanort Saga" if the series continues beyond Kingdom Hearts III).

What... really? You'll let me? All right. ;)

The wall structures are really nicely done. The pictures' color scheme is restricted/muted, which is also good, but I find my eye to be a little drawn to the green patch on the right. Visible shadows are not to be seen, so I can not determine from which direction the light comes. Can't say whether this is good or bad in this case, as hazy lighting conditions have a similar effect, and this could be intended here. The "dirt" part has a really great texture, I hope you can continue to improve this.

There's no perspective besides the "aerial perspective" (yet that one is executed with skill). No converging perspective lines means no real three-dimensional impression. I'd have a lot of other perspective ideas also, but many can not applied to adventure games with fixed character animation frames (top down perspectives, for example, could not be applied, because the character wouldn't fit in the picture then).

Composition could be improved also. At the time, the mountains in the background effectively mimic the prominence of tree and house in the foreground. That is a strange effect (but I do like the mountains themselves very much). The house is in the exact middle of the picture - which works fine to "present" it, but central composition is a little frowned upon. Maybe other pictures could have a more off-center composition. If all the parts you need for the game are shown, you could frame the picture in many ways, cutting off quite some portions of the house.

Make more pictures, I want to see them!! ;)
