Daytime/Nighttime islands
Tales was the first ever Monkey Island game to let you see an Island both during day and night. I'd like to see this more in future games. And I'd especially love to see older islands that were previously night or daytime only at both times.
This topic can be used for both things. You can state which islands you'd want to see in day/nighttime. Then if you want to, describe what you think the island will look like during day or nighttime.
For example, I'd love to see Melee Island during the daytime. And I can imagine it being pretty active, seeing as it's already active at night. The forests would be beautiful and colorful, different shops will be open. Very vaue description, but I may add more later on.

I just imagined them at day time, and, honestly, I don't like it. Other islands, however, it would be interesting to see change thier time.
Right, so we could see it at 10 in the morning
Nice photo shop. This looks good.

Does anyone know which Monkey Island game has the most night time segments in it? Or do they balance out equally?
A location feels a lot more mysterious when shown in the dark. I especially love to look at the dark sea at night. I found Flotsam to look pretty crappy in chapter 1 but, wow, did that change with all the lighting, dark corners and the slightly scary jungle in chapter 4!
Anyone played Black Mirror? This being a totally different game graphicwise, but I've never seen such a fascinating use of changing lighting in a game.
Oh, right - and weather, too! On some days, it rains, on some it doesn't.
What I also found added atmosphere in MI1 were the non-interactive passing pirates in Meléé City occasionally walking by or the lights going on and off in the buildings.
Nah, that's not quite right. There only were always dark clouds over Knuttin' Atoll.
Pfft, fake, where does that lantern come from between the Jail cells? Where's Stan's Neon Sign?
The lantern's always been there afaik. Stan's sign might have burnt out.
Love nightscenes, but it´s really nice with dayscenes when Guybrush is on beaches and similiar areas.
nice:d
You start on Melée Island in the dark, but when you travel to Monkey Island and are on Monkey Island itself, it's daytime (before getting dark again when you travel back).
With MI2 starting on the nighty Scabb Island too, it came quite as a surprise that in MI3, Plunder Island, as the first island we visit, was shown at daytime.
Ahh but it's actually Night when we get to Plunder Island, even if we only see the beach at Night before LeChuck throws Guybrush in the hold, we get out in time to get on the beach again for Sunrise.
Just keep seeing the dark nightsky when GB stands on the bridge.
So typical of EMI to ignore the formula...
Yeah you folks didn't let us down.... Thank you for that.
Erm, technically speaking, it's daytime during MI2 and Curses' opening cutscenes...
Well, I figure it's not about the opening cutscenes, but where you first gain control of the character (ie gameplay starts).
You might as well say the first Island on CMI is Monkey Island (seeing as the island is the first that pops up). Technicaly (visually?) correct, but the game doesn't really start there.
(I know you were only joking, but pretended you weren't )
And the process of sun rising is awesome on that scenes.
Well, you start controlling Guybrush on LeChuck's ship - at night. So technically, the game starts at night.
Er, yes, that's what I was implying.
Is that pic right? Cause in chapter 4 Guybrush doesn't have a right hand while he's on Flotsam and in ch5 he's undead (still with no hand). So where did the night pic come from?
The set is a screenshot taken directly from the game engine. Then I just photoshoped Guybrush from the original image overtop of that (with a little color adjustment). I just wanted to put something up real quick, not spend a lot of time actually recreating the shot perfectly!
Don't you mean he doesn't have a left hand?
Oh I forgot which hand it was.
A nice pixelated sunset.
Not in every version, it's not. Most begin at night. As far as I know, only a few of them begin at sunset.
Booty Islland at night could have been awesome. Purcell has a special talent to make really nice night ambiences and locations.
