Would a point and click adventure game of Roger Rabbit work?

edited August 2010 in General Chat
I would like to bring this up to everyone, seeing how Telltale games is bringing back Back to the future with a point and click game would it work for Roger? I know that the only thing that the two movies had in common was that they both had games that stunked on the NES.

It's possible but I think they'd have a hard time doing the graphics justice. It would be very entertaining to see how they approached it.

Half the fun is the live action melded with cartoons in the movie. In a game it would be cartoony graphics interacting with realistic graphics, and would lose a lot in translation, IMO.

But. y'know, if someone made it, I'd probably buy it...

Im sure it would work pretty well...... but I would not really be interested in it... unless it was in the bargain bin.

You know what, I was posting a million reasons about why it wouldn't work but I'd love to see Valiant & Roger banters, Baby Herman's duality as a baby and a grown up and a full musical act by Jessica.

Plus if Telltale can get Christopher Lloyd for BTTF* then why not for Judge Doom?

*I'm not saying that Telltale hired Christopher Lloyd

If it's a game done by Telltale then It's a pre-order to me.

Also both movies were directed by Robert Zemeckis.

what? They were practically the same movie! Oh, wrong topic. I thought we were talking BTTF, haha.

There was a game, and it was ok. There was a bit in it where someone gives you a phone number and you have to ring it, but you can't find a phone anywhere in the game.

Roger Rabbit in Toon Town, no problem. But regarding Roger Rabbit in real life Hollywood, the cartoon and live action blend would indeed lose its impact when both are animated; you'd need some decent CG human characters to make that work, not to mention photorealistic environments. Think of the "Pirates" characters in "Kingdom Hearts 2" - only in a "Heavy Rain" style.

Or you'd have to go back to FMV, which I don't think is going to happen.

I had that "Hare Raising Havoc" game for a while; funny but I hated that it was timed. I don't think I ever finished it more than once.

I wouldn't mind it if they went back to FMV if they did it with a technological upgrade of some sort and made it work. They could be revolutionary in blending FMV with rendered in game 3D graphics, environments.

The only thing is that all the characters from the movie are just about too old to be able to reprise their roles.

Why am I suddenly thinking of James Cameron? Get out of my head, you!

Well, since cartoon characters don't really age (except for flashbacks and flashforwards) you could have a new story taking place in a different timeframe with a new human cast.

If Hollywood can apply the same principal to movies like "The Mask" and "Ace Ventura", why not here? (Of course the quality of those examples I'm leaving undiscussed for now :D)

They are actually making a sequel, you know. Third paragraph.

I didn't know that. I wonder whether they're keeping it old-school, or going the 3D CGI way.

Mm, perhaps the new story could be about some kind of dispute between the classic 2D characters and the 3D newcomers. Might be fun if handled well.

After all, Judge Doom eventually turned out to be a 3D toon ... I just hope they don't go the offspring way.

EDIT: Did some research. So apparently the original 2D characters will stay that way, but the humans will be replaced my mo-capped 3D-CG counterparts? No live action anywhere. Not what I'd expect from a sequel ...

Please don't make it, the first movie has charm even though it's technological, modern movies have no charm and I don't want a CGI bunny shoved up my ass!
  • edited August 2010
If it happens and it's CGI I'll be very upset.

It will if Jessica is in it.

Good sir, are you suggesting that a Rogger Rabbit game could exist without Jessica?

I'm with you. Don't mess with the classics!

(Although... That new Tron movie is looking mighty delicious. :-)

For whatever reason Tron doesn't seem as bad.

I'd like to see Valiant (is that's the detective's name) being a live action character, visiting Toon Town with Roger Rabbit (on a vacation from the case they just worked on?), then stumbling into a new case they need to solve while there. It'll be a bit like Toon Struck.

I have thought about it for awhile now, I think it would work. I did think of other ways besides Point and click for a new Roger game but Point and click seems the only way for this to fly.

    No, because RR sucks.
