One Year Later: Do you want a return to The Inventory?

I would've made this on the actual anniversary, but I forgot.

So, Poker Night's been out for over a year now. As shallow as the game itself was, my inner crossover fanatic can't help but love the concept. So, do you want Telltale to do another "At the Inventory" game?

I'd like to see it as long as it's something more gameplay-intensive than poker. A point-and-click where you explore the Inventory would be nice.

If it's a good concept for a game in its own right, sure.

Not really the inventory, but I want this exact cast for another genra.

Like an adventure game where you play as the 4 in different moments with their own abilities.

    Or L4D style with them.

L4D with the Heavy wouldn't work.

I'd love to see more Inventory themed adventures. Sure, Poker Night was shallow but for a $5 game I got tremendous value out of it. According to Steam I played 23 hours of it which is more then I get out of most full priced games.

Even if they don't end up making a season out of it it would be cool if they kept it going, maybe a game at a time, like with Puzzle Agent.

I'm hoping that they'll make a multiplayer game out of this series.

I still want Ladies Night at the Inventory.

Or LARPing at the Inventory. With Strong Sad as the host.

Or rather, Strong Sad as every character you'll encounter.

That is, until his untimely demise by a velociraptor.

With...Sybil, Marzipan, Scout's Mother, and Annarchy?

    Not quite an all-star cast.

Personally, I would be happy with another "poker night", but I dont think people would want the same game with new dialog? :P
  • edited December 2011
Yes, yes, emphatically yes. I still play Poker Night when I just want a quick, funny game. The crossover concept was wonderful and Telltale has so many great characters that they could use. I actually don't even want a real adventure game with these characters, I've already seen them in adventure games ('cept for Heavy, of course). I liked seeing them in a more smallscale environment, just interacting with each other. I'd be happy with Poker Night 2 with more players, or a casino game, or if it is something more story-driven, something simple and playful like an Agatha Christie style murder mystery.

Please, Telltale, let us go back to the Inventory some time.

I'd like a different At the Inventory game. I've enough poker with PN and Texas Hold'em, but I'd love to see a new kind of game with the crossover.

I actually just bought it and for me as a real poker player it's ridiculously easy. And that's considering I am not very good at poker, I just sometimes play on Pokerstars and so on. I like the setting and conversations between players, but besides that there's not much to it. I wouldn't mind if they made a new game, but it'd be nice if they expanded on the idea and improved AI, added unlockable characters and multiple environments.

Yes, I would like for another to be made. I loved the original, especially since it featured Texas Hold'em Poker. My favorite, :) .

I was thinking maybe Table Pool.

I actually want Wheatley to be one of the characters if using a Valve character is going to be a tradition of some sort.

oh man, definitely. It's been a while; I miss the old cartoony fun Telltale used to be.

Not that it's no good now, but these newer, more dramatic, bigger-named licenses just don't feel the same, you know?

I say next they do Go-cart Racing @ the Inventory... ... LOL I know its cheap .. but don't act like you wouldn't play that game.

Every regular here knows I'd love another episode of Poker Night with a different set of characters (I even drew up a few combinations), but, based on the Point-and-Click Adventure theme At The Inventory (perhaps with a murder or just a mystery that gets more complex and dark/bizarre/moody with time), I think I'd like a season, using a different character to be the playing character of each episode (like in The Simpsons Hit & Run). There'd be parts of the inventory we haven't seen, a supporting cast and a story that only Telltale could write.

Maybe they'll think about Poker Night 2 between some of these big franchises they're working on at the moment, then perhaps a full season when they've finished and they want to see what money they have still to make with the classics.

One Year Later: Do you want a return to The Inventory?

    Absolutely!
  • edited April 2012
How about trapped in the Inventory an adventure game with Sam & Max where
they must solve the mystery of the Inventory when a new character traps all the Telltale game characters inside.... and there is a unlockable Strong Bad costume for Max or Strong Bad could be a character you can play as in the game.
  • edited April 2012
Definitely! But with some different characters, like maybe Gabriel instead of Tycho, The Engineer from TF2, Sam instead of Max...or perhaps the same cast, but have it so it changes from time to time, like after a tournament, Tycho switches out for another character.

And since pretty much everything Heavy said was non-canon to the TF2 universe, perhaps actually working with some of Valve's writers to set things straight.

Ohh, you know who I'd love to be in a sequel? SAXTON HALE!
  • edited April 2012
Well, Poker Night IS Telltale's highest selling game on Steam... probably because of the TF2 items, but still. :P
And even though it was likely made as a spiritual successor to Telltale Texas Hold'em, with how successful it was, I think a follow-up of some kind would absolutely be worth it. Hey, if there's more new TF2 items in it there's no doubt it'll sell. People love their hats, man.

I once saw a great fan art of a "reverse" Poker Night, with Sam, Homestar, The Medic and Gabe. Maybe something could be done with that... you never know~
But yes, I'd very much be in favor of a "return to the Inventory", and I think it definitely could be a good decision on Telltale's part too. It's the best game I'm sure I've ever gotten for $5, I've played it so much I've unlocked everything (but somehow haven't even heard all the dialogue yet I'm sure!) and it's still one of my favorite little funny time wasters.

Dude, I'd love to play as the T-Rex from Jurassic Park, as I race Guybrush Threepwood and the guy from Law & Order!!!

We need "Murder Mystery at The Inventory" first, as Telltale went so far as to create dialogue between Max and Winslow for it. Maybe it could play like Clue? I'm game for anything though, this is one of the best crossovers ever made.

Is it just me, or does no one else love the idea of the Inventory simply being a gentleman's club, for video game characters. Now I know Telltale probably can't afford the rights to cameos from loads of different game characters. But, if I was in charge of a new Inventory game, I would keep the formula the same, but just add more characters and game modes. The thing I loved about the original was the fact that I could just sit back and relax with a couple of my favorite game characters and listen to them sharing stories and generally chatting amongst each other. If it were down to me, I would want characters such as:
    Guybrush Threepwood!!!!
    More Tf2 characters
Indiana Jones (From the Lucasarts game)
More Lucas arts adventure games characters in general.
    Yahtzee Croshaw
(Telltale should also utilise the indie market to the fullest, I'm sure there are loads of indie devs who would love to see their characters going into a game such as this)
Classic playstation/nintendo characters (although I see the obvious financial, and otherwise, hurdles involved in such an undertaking. But I would love to see Crash Bandicoot. Jak and Daxter. Leon Kennedy all sitting around telling tales and generally enjoying what the inventory has to offer)

I would also love other modes such as:
Pool (imagine shooting pool with Max from Sam and Max, or one of the tentacles from Day of the Tentacle)
    Darts
    Blackjack
    Chess
Also, for those times when you can't be bothered playing any games and you just want to kick back and listen to some quality dialogue. Perhaps you could sit by the fire with some of the characters, order a dram of Whiskey and just listen as they exchanged stories and took part in heated debates about life, philosophy, and whatever else video game characters talk about.

I personally think this would be truly marvelous and I wish my full idea could be realised. Alas it is unlikely to ever come to fruition, but I would love to see something along the lines of what I just described if they ever do manage another outing to the Inventory.
