    Yes, being stuck could be made more tolerable if there were more interesting (but inconsequential) things to discover while you were stuck. I'm under the impression most people go back for all the 'play it again' moments, so if there were enough sufficiently interesting responses to fruitless attempts at puzzle-solving, it seems everyone would enjoy it a lot more - after all, it would just be 'play it again', but for the first time! If there were a unique response for every semi-logical interaction, then even if that period of the game were reduced to a matter of trial and error there'd still be something new all the time.
