PC Controls

edited August 2012 in The Walking Dead
W or up arrow key- move forward
A or left arrow key- move left
S or down arrow key- move back
D or right arrow key- move right
Q - wrestle(tap rapidly)
E - shove
1-4 - dialogue
mouse wheel - scroll for dialogue
left click for choices
right click was only used once, to back out of handling an object

What I wish there was was a cinematic skip function. If anyone can tell me how, please do and i'll edit and add it in.

You may wish to note that the Q key is tapping it repeatedly. At least that is how it seemed to me because it flashes. Holding it didn't seem to do anything but get me killed. Tapping it until the arrows closed and the E appeared for its key press did the trick.

Edit: Also, the mouse wheel will scroll choices for you if you do not want to use the number keys. Scroll to highlight then left click to choose.

Can anyone tell me how to actually fire the shotgun on a PC once I pick it up? I see the icon on the left for it, but cannot seem to find the key to actually use it. I just keep dying over and over as a result.

BTW, love how the PC controls function shows a game controller. Many of us use keyboards, telltale. :) And being able to re-map keys would be very nice, thanks.

You have to grab the shell on the ground to your right.

Thank you, Wabbit. I'm sure once you know that, it's obvious as heck, but I'm used to PC shooters where you don't need to pick up ammo to use the weapon, so that never even crossed my mind. :)

Not a problem :) I understand. Hell, I died the first time because I didn't know to back up from the zombie crawling at me. lol

Hi all, need some help. In the scene on the drugstore, when Lee is blocking the door to avoid zombies enter, the QTE scene say that you have to tap "Q" repetedly. Then i do but zombies always enter and kill me, i'm doing anything wrong or forgot to push any other key?.

    Thanks for help.

Instead of using W,S,A,D you can also use the arrow keys.

When the door open a little scroll your mouse over the opening to close it. I hope that made sense.

    Any controller support?

I do find it strange that Telltale doesn't let you skip dialogue anymore, even if you've already heard it. Every game prior to Jurassic Park let you skip dialogue by right-clicking (and I think pressing Space too, it's been a while).

I guess it's to make things more "cinematic."

If you don't have a mouse wheel, you can also use the number keys. Press 2 for the hand option.

Not on this PC controls thread!

But yes, pretty much exclusive controller support. Xbox 360 controllers specifically. Oh TT and your clear favoritism.

I'm surprised they have yet to move this thread to the Help section of the forums. They created one earlier today.

I don't know how to access the inventory..Celmentine needs a band aid but I can't put it on her finger

Note the scroll/number options in the OP. If you have the bandaid from the kit, mouse on Clem and mousewheel or number choice to the bandaid to apply it

You don't actually access the inventory. It is just noted what you have on the left of the screen.

Any shortcut for saving the game, or is it only autosave?

So what are the PC controls for the game? I can't find them in the settings because the only ones listed are the ones for the 360 controller. Specifically looking for the action keys, because right now Lee is holding the handcuff keys doing nothing like a doofus.

I don't have a controller adapter for my PC, and I would really like to not have to buy one, so help would be greatly appreciated.

wasd to move, left click to start interacting with stuff, mouse wheel to scroll through dialog choices and possible actions, 1 2 3 4 to quickly select dialog options.

Have a good thread for it linked in my signature :)

I lost much of my left arm in Afghanistan and I find this game very difficult to control using the WASD keys. In most games, I prefer to remap the contols to the numpad and use my TrackIR for mouselook.

Is there a way to remap the controls through an .ini file or hex editor?
  • edited April 2012
You can use the arrow keys instead of the wsad. But the keys are not mappable. Check my sig link for all the pc controls.

You may still have difficulty with the Q and E keys required though. No optional ones there, I'm afraid. :/

It is kind of funny that the PC version shows an XBOX controller when you try to see what the controls are. It looks like a big goof where they just ported over the explanation from the console without updating it.
Q is used for wrestling and E for kicking people in the face, i think right mouse backs you out of handling objects occasionally.

Ok, it's really annoying because everybody don't use US keyboard.

I just can't play the game I bought because I don't have the "mandatory" keyboard to enjoy the game.
Let me select my key binding or refund me, thanks

Seems like it's the first time you go to PC release?

By using a french keyboard you have:
W is just above space (meaning that to go forward I click on the lowest key) and A is reversed with your Q (meaning that left is not just on the left on the right key, but a little bit above).
  • edited April 2012
W or up arrow key- move forward
A or left arrow key- move left
S or down arrow key- move back
D or right arrow key- move right
Only in the US, here we are not so lucky and the controls are in the wrong place.
Allow us to change them is really something we can do in every games since previous millenium :p

Huh? What country are you in and in what place are WASD in your country?

/edit: Oh, I see. THAT is a problem.

However, it should be possible to change the layout of your keyboard for the game, it's possibly very simple. Could you try these steps here?

Hardly a satisfying solution of course, but it should enable you to play the game with zero problems. Good luck!!

Yeah cool, I also know the SHIFT+ALT trick to use the US keyboard inside US apps.
But it wasn't my question: I just wan't to use my custom layout.

BTW asking someone to modify his systems for just one single apps is not "cool" (even if its from a MS KB)

Come one, it's not something you haven't already seen in PC games before :)

They are default controls. No key mapping has been programmed in.

  • edited April 2012
All keys are default. Nothing needs to be enabled.

Edit: The game gives you absolutely no control over what keys are used, at this time. I do not think they will be changing that either, but I could be wrong.

The game is already PS3/Xbox 360 controller enabled. Preferred even.

I am curious, do either of you have direction arrows on your keyboards? The arrows can be used in place of the wsad keys. This is a default of the game as well.

Well, our keyboard are not THAT strange :p
But then Q and E and 1-4 will be far away for some scene...

Another nice bug: It say always Q or E, whatever your real keymapping is... and each time I have to hit the wrong key at least once to remember where are the US keys.
What a bizarre place! qwerty is the only way!
Well, the game is not restricted to US zone only, so I assume they will correct it someday now (or just don't care to sell more games copy...)
The game is already PS3/Xbox 360 controller enabled. Preferred even.
Not on PC, nobody use a bloody console controller when they can afford not to (and mouse/touchscreen are so easier)

All I can see is that the console to PC translation need to be finished, but now I'm warned about telltale games and won't do the same mistake twice :)
Is this why you can't buy one chapter after each other because they don't love PC users?
