Doug instead of Carley

So, when the game bugged after installing episode 2 and it wouldn't detect my saves, i had to roll with random choices. Gladly all choices other than one were the same as i choose already. The only one that was wrong is that i had Doug saved instead of Carley.

Now i got to a point that i tell myself that i tried to save Carley, but couldn't get to her in time, so i had to save Doug instead.... explaining it this way.

Now my question is, why would anyone choose Doug by themselves? What is so appealing about him? For real...

Doug's awesome! Just because he's not an attractive female who's good with guns doesn't mean he isn't worth saving. He's smart and resourceful, and brave.

If you've played episode three with him you'll see that he
gives his life to save Ben from getting shot. Whereas Carley just goes off her head and gets herself killed.

Doug is great. Not to say Carley isn't either, and there are definitely reasons to have her around as well, but don't discount Doug automatically.

I saved Carley, but Doug is still a pretty awesome dude. He makes the alarm system at the motor inn, and is a pretty funny and intelligent guy who gives his life to save someone he's known for less than a week. He's a hero, bro.

Yeah I like Doug. I have two files where I save Carley , then Doug. I think im gonna make my canon file the one where I save Doug cuz I made all my favorite choices on that file anyway.

Now that I've finished ep. 3 I would say that I appreciate Doug's character much more Carley's. However, I think that Lilly's character is better enriched in Carley's version than in Doug's. So I'm sticking with Carley, because she makes Lilly more tragic and I love it :p

I hate to say it, but the one thing I don't like about Doug is his VA..... for some reason he grates on my nerves....

I saved Doug in episode 1 because Carley had a gun and Doug didn't - Carley was plenty able to shoot the walker that had her, Doug was helpless.

You didn't notice her running out of ammo? lol

I guess she could have pointed it at the thing and went "Pew Pew Pew."

Once you get to know Doug you'll see he's a very nice person, and he does try to help Lee when walkers attack him, it's just that his weapon of choice is a wooden plank and that doesn't do much. But yeah, I see him as a hero, he gave his life to protect a person he barely even knew, and was trying to calm Lilly down. Kinda shows how nice he is.

Dunno, but i find him annoying... and he is that typical nerd style of guy and i got enough of those in real life... he is just weird and that stare... ugh.

I have two running saves and played both Carley and Doug. I liked Dougie, but find it interesting that in episode 1, when you save him, he says he wishes you'd saved Carley and by episode 3 he's reinforcing the wall in an effort to feel useful because his area of expertise is obsolete. I liked that Dougie went out the hero.

i saved doug (in my first game) because he had just been useful in a way that Lee couldn't be (programming the remote) but carley had only shot things (if lee had taken carley's gun and not carley to save glenn, lee could have use the pillow and the gun the same way), and also carley knew about Lee's past and even though i said i trusted her i didn't fully trust her.

but i think doug is a wasted character that had no character development, so when he was killed all i thought was that it was a waste but no real loss

I agree that Doug was helpful when he programmed the remote and Lee could have done the pillow thing if he had borrowed Carly's gun but there is still a valid point that tips the scale in Carly's favour. The fact that she saved Lee and co before they even got into the drug store and saved Clementine or Lee when they entered depending on how we dealt with scene where Lee fell over. That was enough to pick Carly for me. I felt like I owed her. It was technically Lee's fault that she ran out of bullets since he persuaded her to let Irene shoot herself. That extra bullet would have atleast enabled her to get free and get her extra clip from her bag.

Well, that's only if you tell her to. In my game everyone refused to give her to the gun but she forced it out of our hands, and so no one was at fault for Carley situation later on.

How was that Lee's fault? Why didn't she reload the clip to full-ammo? Better yet, why didn't she have extra ammo on her? One clip wasn't good enough, it seems.

Well I'm no gun enthusiast, but do people with weapons normally stuff their bags to the brim with extra ammunition? I don't know if Carley was a gun nut or not, but I'm assuming she had the gun simply for protection. In that case, wouldn't she only need a few clips at the most? Unless she expected to be shooting 50 zombies that day, i don't see why she should have had loads of extra ammunition.

In episode 1, Doug even points out that people tried to go get weapons from a store but they all died, so that could show that finding more ammo from the streets simply wasn't viable.

    He has a laser pen...
He makes security systems fixes broken things and honestly Carley is just another person with a gun...

Another person with a gun who saved Lee twice, and helped save the entire group. And that's just episode 1.

I saved Carley first, I think she is better but Doug is still pretty good. Off topic, what is your favorite moment with Carley and or Doug?
  • I prefer Doug as a character but Carley is the only one who knows your secret so without her you are never prompted to tell others in the group which means a bad reaction when it eventually gets out. Other than that neither of them brings anything extra and the story plays out the same regardless (apart from dialogue)

  • Yes but she was out of bullets. That's why she was reaching for her bag

  • I saved Doug in episode 1 because he seemed so helpless. Carley had a gun and a certain level of toughness. I thought if I saved Doug she would be able to hold out long enough for me to get back to her. I was wrong but I don't regret saving Doug. He saved my ass at the St. John's farm.

  • I saved Carley on my first play through....she knew how to use a weapon and was damn good at it

I only chose to save Doug b/c when Carley died and I realized that there was no way I could save her, I went with Doug thinking that maybe he'd live, but no

  • I saved doug in my first playthrough, but after saving Carley in playthrough 2 I never did again. Carley has a more interesting character and I like tha romantic hints between her and Lee.

Still like Doug though. The reason why I like the choice is because you can feel the difference.

  • Doug is funny, he likes pie. He shines a light in Lee's Eye, because he was trying to signal him. I liked him. I really laughed at his shirt with the rabbit with the horns. I hope they make another doug character.

Carley is Lee's love interest until bad things happen. Each are cool in their own way.

  • when i was playing first time i chose Doug and still i cant tell why i did this :D Carley was/is so nice and clever but Doug just got something

  • Carley kissed us in ep 3! <3

  • Doug helped me out by reprogramming the tv remote, Carley couldnt even figure out how to put batteries in a radio. Doug saved Carley in the first place. In a true survival situation, I am taking a Doug over a Carley any time, even if she is a babe with a gun.

  • He was smart enough to know radios need batteries

  • I think people save doug for a varity of reasons.

Some people thought Carley as a threat to knew Lees identity.
He was smart, so maybe they thought he would be more useful in the long run than Carley.
Maybe people thought he was cute.

Does it really matter why they chose him, I liked they didn't put a perfect guy in the game, i wish they would of gave him a bigger role though.
