Fight Kenny or Talk Him Down?

edited September 2012 in The Walking Dead
I am curious to see how people played out this scenario and why.

Personally, I took the talk down approach. Sure, we all want a little action and who better than the guy who prematurely killed an old man having a heart attack right? However, throughout Episode 3 it felt like they gave a lot more logic and reasoning behind his actions. There is clearly something on his mind he can't get past and it might even help him in the long run to deal with it. So I talked to him about it and I think I did the right thing personally.

I never felt Kenny was "a bad man." He can be too impulsive, but at his core I can feel he is a genuinely nice person. I am glad I stuck to that feeling.

That would be cruel to fight him.
"Kenny get the hell in there and kill your walker son!"

Agreed. That's why seeing the scene play out that direction just made me feel bad.

I talked him down, trying to relieve him from the guilt he had for thinking Shaun dying was his fault, and because I could understand where his anger was coming from. And also because I'm not the kind of person who likes to fight, really, so it seemed like a better path to me.

I talked him down too. Kenny is certainly not a bad guy, and what was running through his mind would definitley make him snappy and thoughtless, his son was infected. I like Kenny, but poor guy, he's been through so much crap.

I would explain why I talked him down but I think it's been pretty well described in this thread so far.

not gonna start a fight to try to convince someone to kill his son lol

I fought him, because I didn't pick the right choice to calm him down I guess..... lol

Once he started swinging I just let him beat Lee down and get it out of his system....

So they actually make you push buttons to fight? I figured they would do like they always do and let Lee get knocked down or out.

I had a cursor that I could move. I guess I was supposed to line it up with Kenny's face or something - but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Ah, and so knowing the game no matter who won the fight Kenny stops the train and they both go to Duck with non swollen faces or other bruises from fighting in a tight inclosed space.

I don't remember if Kenny had any injuries... but Lee was messed up.

I did both, talked him down on my first save and I won the fight on my second (I didn't actually pick "fight him", it just escalated). Lee doesn't hit Kenny, he just pins him enthusiastically.

Before episode 3 I hoped the option would come to punch Kenny and follow it up with a knee to the balls. What does Telltale do: Ok,his son is dying and contrary to your belief he has been suffering with the guilt and the feeling of being responsible for leaving Shawn to die. Here you go, enjoy...

Damn you Telltale :( I couldn't do it

I talked him down, and he had some pretty good lines. Like when he called my Lee out on his "College degree and fancy education" or something to that effect, and said that I could never understand him. Plus when he went on about Shawn, and what he did back at Hershel's farm and how he knew this was coming... It really puts his actions in perspective for me.

Man you guys really paid attention that convo...I keep watching his fist :(

That's something I kind of love about Telltale and how they are doing his story. It happened with Larry too. I couldn't wait to rub something in his face for punching my out and trying to kill Duck. What did they do? They made me relate to his behavior because he has nobody but his daughter left to defend. Then they put me in a position where I couldn't possibly justify killing a defenseless old man with a heart attack.

It's sinister and absolutely genius :) I can forgive most of the few shortcomings in the story because of stuff like that.

Exactly. I am spitting fire about Ben right now, but Im sure TTG gonna do something where Ben so fully restores the group's trust in him (right before he dies) that only nazis and satanists could still manage an ounce of ill-will towards him. Hell, I'll probably be the first to write his eulogy on the forums.
    "Why BEN????"

Talk him down. Fighting him when his son is dying in the back car is immoral.

Hahaha! That would be quite something.

It may take a lot more than that to warm me over to Christa and Omid though.

I talked him down, until he tried to punch my face in. I think we two just don't get along too well. :(

Not only I fought him, but I also kicked his ass.
There were lessons to be learned in that scene. Kenny believed himself to be the alpha of the group, now that Lilly was gone. Well, I'm sorry bro, but you aren't, not anymore. I told him to stop the train, I tried to be good and understanding but he needed some kicking...
I did however offer and shoot Duck. It was only appropriate that Batman should finish Robin. :p
In the end I told him that Clem and I would go our own way once we hit Savannah. He wasn't happy about it.

    Talk him down.

Fistfights are always boring and fighting with a person operating a moving train is rather irresponsible in my opinion.

If I recall correctly, when we knew that Larry was going to die, he hesitated about half of a second.... Therefore I had no problem beating some sense in to him.

He came at me with a fist, and I knocked him back and told him how it was a few times before he whimpered and went back to do this.

Can't have it both ways man. I felt bad for the guy but we can't have a walker in the train. Not with Clem back there just a couple feet from Duck. We had to take out the obvious danger that was about to happen. Once I saw the blood on the napkin, I knew I was making Kenny stop this train no matter what. And I did.

I talked him down. I wouldn't hesitate to kick his ass if necessary, but it wasn't for me.

My Lee talked him down, what sort of sicko fights a man to try and make him kill his son?

What are morals when the dead are eating the living.

What are morals when the dead are eating the living.

They're the only things seperating us from the walkers.

The only thing separating the group from the walkers is life.

    Everything else is fair game.

I didn't even know you could fight him until the stats at the end showed that I talked him down.

I chose to fight Kenny, but I didn't have the heart to hit him back when he was yelling at me about his son. So, I ended up taking a beating.

IMO Kenny was pretty keen on letting you die by not bothering to shoot at the helicopter pilot when you were raiding the drug store. I wanted the first opportunity to hit this idiot in the face when the writers finally presented the opportunity.
