Poker night 2 (Xbox) keeps freezing - 'Press A to deal hand'

It keeps freezing randomly. For example both ash and claptrap busted and claptrap left the table and ash is still stuck at the table. They are all waiting for me to play. They all keep talking but only the start button works. None of the other buttons work, so I cannot continue my game. PLEASE PATCH THIS GAME!! I really want to play uninterrupted.

Having the same issue. its encapsulated in this dude's video ( I am not this dude).

The glitch persists over the save file as after I shut down my system, restarted and selected "continue tournament" the same error is encountered.

Any short term solutions are welcome.

I am having the same problem. I just bought the game this morning and I'm on the first tournament. It's down to me and Ash and it keeps saying, "Press A to deal next hand" but it won't work. I've tried 2 different xbox controllers and exiting and reloading the game several times. Please fix!!

I am currently in the top 10 on the Xbox 360 version of Poker Night 2. Needless to say I have played many games and this time I am fed up with it. You see the game will occasionally (4 times for me) become stuck on the "Press A to Deal the Next Hand" bubble and the only fix for this is to forfeit your game and start a new.
On a side note, you can return to the dashboard on the river and prevent loss by doing so. This basically nerfs the entire point of having leaderboards and puts my competition on the honor system. -_-
I love the game. I love the a.i. I love all the choices and work put in to my new favorite little addiction but these things must be patched. At the very least, the one forcing me to start over.

    Same for me

I'm getting to the point I not going to bother with Telltale games anymore after all the hassle with Walking Dead and now this, Telltale REALLY need better quality control

We are looking into this issue, but based on the when the game saves, you should not see this screen again after continuing the tournament. Have you fully shut down your Xbox and restarted?

To help us try to reproduce this, please provide any details you can. So far it seems that this occurred when Ash busted out on the first tournament. If you experienced this with any other character or during a later tournament, please specify that. Thanks!

I love this neat little XBL game I recently downloaded but I am having a freezing issue as well where it gets stuck on the "Deal next hand"...It's happened three times, once I was able to reset and resume the tourney the other two times I had to start a tourney all over.
I have a slim console with a large memory hardrive. This has happened after one of the AI players is eliminated only.
Love this game, but if you could fix the bug, it's be great.
    Thanks for the work.

I've gotten this error three times. Every time it has been when the last character busts, and it's only Sam and I left. After the last character busts, and walks away, and it tells you to press A to continue, it will never let me press A. I can press start, but that's all. I've tried leaving and coming back, clearing the Xbox cache, and deleting and reinstalling the game. It never lets me continue though. The running theme for me, is it has always been when it comes down to me and Sam.

I've encountered this error 3 or 4 times. The first time I managed to get it to work somehow, I cannot remember what I did. I have been trying to recreate the work around but have been unable. :(

I have tried all sort of restarting the game, restarting the console, power state changes, etc. Nothing seems to work. Every time I continue the tournament, I get back to the same spot. Most recently, today, it was a Texas Hold'em game with Brock and Claptrap. Claptrap had won and when you hit A to continue, you get an audible DONG, all three players scores go white indicating they are back in bot nothing else happens. Not a lock situation because players sit there and look around but nothing else happens.

    >> Have you fully shut down your Xbox and restarted?

MattP, yes that does not change the symptoms at all in my experience.

Please give us some things to try.

    xY

EDIT: DO not recall who busted out but will try to keep an eye on this bit of info.

Im not sure what you meant about "first tournament" but I will recall the occassions. First time it happened was with me and brock remaining. Second time was with sam. Third time was when ash busted out and all other players remained. Fourth time was with me and sam again. I have noticed it only occurs when a player busts out. I am unaware of any other patterns.
Also the first time it occurred was on my third tournament and sam put his banjo up. He was also first out and I had the sam and max theme. Best of luck to you all.

    Exactly the same for me

Claptrap busted and only me and Sam remain, but I've had it with other characters

in my game at least it seems to be when Claptrap busts

turning off the xbox etc doesn't help at all

The first tournament you play, before you unlock bounty challenges and the ability to buy drinks.

Also the first time it occurred was on my third tournament and sam put his banjo up. He was also first out and I had the sam and max theme. Best of luck to you all.

Thanks for this info. Were you using all 3 Sam and Max items (deck, felt, chips)?

For anyone else experiencing this issue, can you recall the chips, deck and felt you were using?

I had the sam and max complete set on my last lock up.

I tried equiping the whole Army of Darkness set to see if the scenary change would unfreeze the game but no luck

Yes I was, I skipped the Borderlands deck, felt, chips, and went straight for the Sam and Max stuff. I also had no problems in the first tournament.

This glitch just happened to me while playing Omaha and using the complete Venture Brothers theme. Sam busted out only leaving Claptrap and the game is stuck on Press A to Deal Next Hand.

Something that I also noticed was that normally the camera is zoomed out before you press A to deal the hand. When the game froze like that, it zoomed in on Claptrap before it stopped responding. Perhaps this bug comes from pressing A too quickly to start the hand in that situation.

Since you were using the Venture Bros theme, it may not be related to that.

Did someone else bust out Sam or did you do it yourself? If it was someone else, who? Were you in or had you folded? If this happened more than once, can you provide the same information for thos occurrences?

If we can determine what the overlapping conditions are, we may have a better chance at recreating and then resolving this issue. So any details you can recall are welcomed.

I believe I busted Sam and Claptrap had folded. The other two characters had already been knocked out.

We do believe this to be a very rare issue, however based on the way the game save system works, you should be able to fully exit the game and when reloading your current tournament, a new hand should be dealt. Since continuing a tournament returns to this screen and progression cannot be made without starting a new tournament, we understand the impact this has on players and are actively trying to reproduce this issue with the hope of finding a quick solution. Until that time, I recommend backing up your save game on a memory stick after each tournament and exiting the game every so often.

Since it appears that the deck/felt/chips, and the player who busts out are different for all affected players, there may be another underlying issue. Does anyone recall if they were rapidly pressing 'B' to move on to the next hand faster when this issue occurred? We included some safeguards to avoid issues such as this caused by mashing buttons (such as a half second delay between registered button presses), but perhaps this is the cause. Alternatively, this may be related to extended gameplay. Do you recall how long you were playing before encountering the unresponsive screen?

B button? Don't think so. I only "mash" A when it offers to skip/continue to the next hand once I've folded. B only shows your cards IIRC?

When I first got the error, it was within a couple hours of gameplay at most. The very first evening it came out. I average one every couple of days or every 5-8 hours of playing if I had to guess?

Thanks for the info, will continue to try to provide info as it happens.

This happened to me 3 times today. The first two times I was up going into a heads up to win it. All three times involved different players busting out. This is so very broken. I am just going to save the game, quit playing, and hope that this gets patched. Not worth playing right now.
  • edited April 2013
same for me no more than a couple of hours and it locked

don't think I was pressing the buttons lots I'd just won a big hand so wasn't really trying to skip anything

    I'm experiencing this same glitch.

I just bought Poker Night 2 on X-Box 360, and the game freezes all the time. It usually happens when someone Busts Out (so far, Ash and Claptrap consistently) and even though the pause menu recognizes the A button, the game doesn't, making it impossible to finish a Tournament at all.

A few times, the game has just frozen in the middle of dialogue.

PLEASE PATCH THIS SOON! I otherwise love this game!

Also, I have tried both rebooting my X-box AND just returning to the title screen. The glitch persists. If I can't move on to the next hand, backing out and trying again with a fresh reload doesn't help- it remembers the glitch.

No button mashing when these glitches occurred for me. I did that the first time, and thought it might be the cause, but it persists- even if I fold haven't touched the controller.

I started playing again today, and this glitch happened within my first hand. I have restarted the game over a dozen times, and I've had this game less than 24 hours.

It happens frequently enough that about 25-40% of my attempted Tournaments (Texas Holdem) are affected, and I have to start a brand new tournament to move forward. I've had as many as 4 tournaments in a row have this glitch.

I just ran into the issue with the game unable to progress past the "Press A To Deal Next Hand" prompt. Before it, Sam busted out, though now it shows them still in the game at $0, even though they're no longer at the table. Now, regardless how many times the game is reset and the console restarted, it will not advance beyond the prompt. The tournament is essentially lost.

I have the save on an Xbox360 formatted USB Flash Drive. I'm not sure if you guys would be able to use it for debugging, but please let me know if it might be of some help in figuring out why it's been happening.

have you noticed that the girl that usually stands at the bar is missing when this problem/glitch happens
  • edited May 2013
I have had this happen with Brock, Ash and Claptrap. I am currently in this situation. Last time it happened, I had to start an entirely new save game.

Now that you mention it, yes, I do NOT see the gal at the bar.

I do hear a "GONG" when I hit "A to Deal Next Hand" and nothing happens.

I'm getting the same issue I love this game and find it very entertaining but this is getting ridiculous I haven't won a game yet but everytime I get set up to win and knock someone out it freezes with this press a BS it's happened like 3 times to me
I hope u fix this sometime in the next few days otherswise Ill never bother purchasing another tell tale game

I am experiencing this issue too. I am playing on the PC version, using an XBox360 controller. I have quit the game, gone back in using either M+K or controller to navigate and my tournament is stuck on the "Click/Press A to continue" screen of the poker table.

This has just happened to me when ash was knocked out on a all inventory set. I was not pressing just waiting. The game doesnt freeze for me but the only working button is Esc/Start. I can not continue the tournament just like Harrier77
  • edited July 2013
I have also run into it freezing up while in game. It has happened when betting or when showing "press a for next hand" It happens off and on during game play and I notice if I exit out sometimes it will let me continue the tournament but others it makes me start over. Also just a suggestion and it may seem insignificant but it would be nice for the players to refer to our character as something other then gentleman since I am a woman. So maybe just refer to us as player or xbox live player. I noticed GlaDOS says "welcome gentleman and claptrap" also Brock and Ash have made comments that refer only to men. Again just a suggestion and love the avatar unlocks. Thank you for your time.

We still believe this to be a very rare issue. The way the in-game saves work, if you close the game and reopen it, then reload the tournament, a new hand should be dealt. We understand the impact this has on players and are actively trying to reproduce this issue with the hope of finding a quick solution. Until that time, we recommend backing up your save game on a memory stick after each tournament and exiting the game every so often.

We are always looking for more information in order to help create a solution to this issue If you can provide any more information about what was happening right before the freeze, what deck/felt/chips you were using, and how long you were playing before the freeze, it may aid in finding a solution. Apologies for the inconvenience.

  • Just had this happen to me on a PC using a 360 controller twice in one day, both playing Hold em with the sam and max table set. The weird thing is I've played the game for like, 12 hours with no issue, and now today it keeps happening. :( I have to exit the game and start a new tournament to get it to start again, which is of course annoying because you lose the game you were playing. Kind of depressing to find a thread that's this old and still no solution. :/

  • Months of this happening and all we have gotten so far is a copy n past excuse from a previous response.

This can't be that rare if a lot of people are having the problem cross platform. I alone had it happen three games in a row and once before so far.

The only way around it is to start a new tournament.

I have tried changing skins, settings, and game play style, getting no correlation. I have not played excessively, It has happened on the first game I played today. The only thing that seems to be consistent is having one or more players bust out.

I would like to be more help and try to find more of a correlation but I am to the point where I don't want to even play this game that I paid money for. Which makes me very, very upset.

not happy and telling everyone, DrKnowMaD

  • This has happens to me on two different PCs I own. One with a 360 controller, the other using the mouse. It's happened four times, each during different scenarios, and once when it was just me and Brock. Closing the game and reopening it does not fix the problem. If that was the fix I wouldn't mind the bug. But as of now I'm forced to lose the tournament and ruin my score. It makes the game unplayable for me.
