The Last of Us COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF THIS GAME!

edited July 2013 in The Walking Dead
I made a topic before stating how they were similar (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42047) but now I have even MORE proof. For example, there is a point in the Last of Us where you get to high five ellie. This is one of the few optional moments in the game. Why would they include it? Obviously because they wanted to rip off on Duck and Lee. So there's my proof.

I hope you're joking. That isn't exactly much in the proof department. And the whole forced parent/child relationship and post-apocalyptic scenarios aren't exactly unique to either story, so I would expect some similarity.

Naughty Dogs developed and worked on The Last of Us before Telltale's The Walking Dead was even thought of. Their probably wasn't any copying going on anywhere, the two games are completely different despite the occasional coincidence.

I'm guessing somebody's never heard of The Road.

    i see pewdiepie fan here

I must admit, there are several similarities in the two games, but I doubt Naughty Dog will just go around copying another game which received a lot of recognition knowing that they will get criticized because of that.
  • edited July 2013
Because, you know, the Last of Us wasn't in development since 2009 or anything.
  • edited July 2013
omg then every other zombie game copy all the zombie games before it.
  • edited July 2013
I'm not sure how to even respond to this. It was in development before the walking dead and the walking dead is more or less an interactive story with fighting while Last Of Us is mostly fighting/stealth around a story. Good try though.

The Last Of Us has a very different plot. Walking Dead is all about trying to live another day. The Last Of Us is about a journey towards an objective and telling a great story with a definitive ending. TWD was my GOTY 2012 and TLOU is my GOTY 2013. They're really not that similar.
  • edited July 2013
The Last of Us didnt copy it at all,it was inspired by the road.
  • edited July 2013
Your "evidence" is that you can high-five a kid in both games? Seriously?

Looks like we have PewdiePie's Fleet Squaddron here.

Oh shit! Zombies! This is ripping off Romero!

    Erm... NO!
The Last of Us is completely different from The Walking Dead.
I don't recall The Walking Dead ever mentioning Cordyceps, which is in fact a REAL infection that is the cause of the outbreak in The Last of Us.
The Walking Dead is all shrouded in mystery, which is what makes it unique and different!

I WISH TT would rip of TLOU with the way you move and fight in the game. lol

I hate the way you move and look around in TWD I cant get past it...still. ah well. Aside from the bad with the TWD, it still kicks ass!

But the limited movement makes the game more dialogue driven and situational! Not just another action game!

Nah, I'm sorry, I was wrong.

Totally ripping off the first dead dude to have a death rattle which led to the other cave dwellers to think "OH SHIT ZOMBIE!"

Summing it up. If you think Last Of Us, a masterpiece, is trying to rip off The Walking dead, the best masterpiece. Then you're crazy.. or probably a walker/infected yourself.

You sound as illogical as "The Bro Army" Noone owns rights to high fives.

I haven't finished the game yet, but I did notice that in the "abandoned town" after the sewers/barracks community, you saw on the houses symbols that are very similar to the ones used by Crawford. I don't think they "stole" it though, my guess is it is more of an Easter Egg.

That's a real world thing that's done by FEMA in a large scale disaster. It's called an X Code and it shows that the house has been searched. I think they started using it during Katrina.

One slash indicates that there are rescuers searching the house, a second slash, making an X, shows that it was fully searched. The top of the X indicates the date, the left indicates the team that did the search, the bottom shows the number of injured or dead found, and the right is used for any other important info. The Walking Dead and Last of Us markings may have added additional info like number of rescued or infected, I'm not sure.

Ah well that's a shame. I just thought it was a little Easter Egg from one creative team to another. :p

I've played and beaten The Last of Us and am currently reading through The Road, and i don't see much resemblance other than the world going through an apocalypse and two people heading to a destination. I never did have an attention to detail, though...

The last of us is amazing, you leave it alone ya hear? you dont deserve to bask in its glory

Well I must be the only one who has not read The Road or who liked the Last Of Us, and yes I have a Xbox but I will openly admit we have shit exclusives, The Last Of Us is a good game don't get me wrong, it's just not the coming of God everyone say's it is. I must a asshole but I did not find it emotional as are game, maybe because I got used to it after Walking Dead who knows? I am sorry if this ticks someone off I will not judge anyone for giving it tens but I just personally would give it a 8 or 9.

Spoiler: The Walking Dead totally stole zombies (eww, who uses that word anymore?) from Light Of The Living Dead.

Also, Telltale totally ripped off the comic book and tv show, even with the title. How despicable!
  • edited July 2013
Hell they ripped off the state of Georgia for even being in Macon and Savannah, someone should sue them.
  • edited July 2013
You obviously underestimate the time it takes to make a game...
Do you really think the entire game was made since TWD was released?
It was revealed before TWD was released...
  • edited July 2013
They may have been inspired by a few bits during it's development, but that is as far as I will go.

Both telltale and naughty dogs ripped off COD.
  • edited July 2013
It has to be COD, and COD was a rip off of the beloved fish we eat all the time, there is no originality left in the world.
  • edited July 2013
I'm guessing somebody's never heard of The Road.

Exactly. Last of Us, The Road, and the Walking Dead all deal with the same universal themes that one would find in a story about a post apocalyptic world.

Besides, Ellie and Joel's story is a little more daring in some aspects, considering they found an ending that no one saw coming, and was unique enough to set it apart from those.

It was more happy then Walking Dead, since some people survive.

but The Last of Us was delayed by a month to steal more stuff from telltale. Every model they had was redone to resemble telltale's the walking dead. They originally planned to steal from Beyond: Two Souls but were afraid of Ellen Page suing them so they were like "oh ****" and changed Ellie's model but forgot to change her name,
