Game is better than the show

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

This is my opinion, I have no right to force it upon you, you do what yer wanna do :P

Okay, I loved this game (I'm not going to go into it...again)

But the show...

Season one was great, but as they progress, it gets more and more...hmm...sh*t. Season 3 was dreadful. Just massive drama with zombies coming out of no-where. Not even any tension anymore. The story seems to be revolving around the governer, a crappy protagonist. I really feel like the show has run its course, but like almost every other good show, they try and keep it alive and fail miserably. This is the same as season 4 aswell. No ground is being covered, it's the same thing over and over and over and over and over and ove - You get my point.

What do you think of the show?

Some people might think that I have the... "Skyrim is crap because Morrowind is good" mentality, I am many things, but I am not Biased.

Maybe it has its up´s and down´s but everything has. I like the Game and the TV Show equally.

I don't hate-watch the show like I did with latter-day Dexter--it's nowhere near that bad--but it's often a mixed experience and I find it more or less getting progressively uninteresting (although so far it seems like the second half of S3 remains the show's absolute nadir. As redundant as the last few episodes of S4 have been, the new season is on a relative upswing in the writing. I mean, Jesus, what could be more pointless and frustrating than Andrea in S3?). I know it's a different animal, but the TTG game... if the show could make me respect and care about the characters and the dangers they get into half as much as the game (even 400 Days alone), I'd have a much higher opinion of it.

  • Season 4 has been great this year, The end of season 3 kind of ruined peoples opinions however I really liked this season; the new showrunner finally seems to get the walking dead so it feels more action packed than season 2 and more character driven than season 3.

  • I'm a fan of all three. Love the comic, the show, and the game.

  • The show is still very good. But i think TTG story is much more interesting.

  • Personally I like the game more than the show. When a character I like in the show dies, I'm pissed off. The game has actually made me cry. A lot of the reason why the game feels more immersive is because you are part of what goes on, but both are good.

Also, the show is much better this year than last year.

You're entitled to your opinion of course but I disagree with everything you said. I love the show and think its gets better every season. The last episode had me a wreck, it was phenomenal. I just dont understand why people keep coming here to bash the show as if they were in competition with each other.

  • People just hated the ending of season 3 because they were expecting something they didnt get which I understand. That can be disappointing. I still very much enjoyed season 3 but I agree with you about Scott Gimple. I think he is really steering the show in the right direction, striking a good balance between action, horror and drama that the show is known for.

  • there doing a good job with show. They follow the comics pretty close WHILE spicing things up and making there own twists. If you read the comics and you are a true walking dead fan you like the show and the game equally.

  • What if you're a true Scotsman?

I think that season 1 was an amazing season, granted it had 6 episodes (if I remember correctly). Season 2 and 3 were mediocre in my opinion. The second half of season 3 was bad but the season was, in a way, saved by the first half. Season 4 so far is amazing! It's not quite as amazing as Season 1 but it is really close. (SPOILER AHEAD) The mid-season finale for season 4 was the best episode they have made. It had character progression, story progression, and a lot of action. The Governor finally died and the prison destroyed. The group is all separated and they all have moved on from the prison. I hope the second half of season 4 is just as amazing as the first half.

Back to the game though, season 1 was amazing just like the first season of the TV show. I hope that season 2 is just as good if not better than season 1. Telltale, please don't screw up season 2. I believe you will make an amazing season 2 of The Walking Dead and cannot wait to play it!

  • I really like the game simply because You can take part in the events that are happening and make your own decisions to influence the game and what's going to happen next which creates a really unique experience. Where as in the TV show you are just an observer

  • THANK you! I wholeheartedly agree! Less time, smaller budget and had a delay or two, but five episodes of the games managed to keep my interest more than the last three seasons of that soap-box, watered down, nigh-Hollywood production levels piece of crap the show is.

  • I agree, I kinda lost track of the series when the godly Dale died ( Coincidentally that happened with the comics too ). It starts getting a bit continuance and boring, I must say it can have it's moments but there is nothing anymore that has that "Wow" factor. The writing is like the comics, it tries to hang on to the audiences attention but tries to hard and then ends up fucking itself over and starts making the story drag on and on and on. The game kinda leaves them both in the dirt, It also gives you that factor of gripping to the characters and interacting with them and shifting the story how you want it to go. So yeah, I have the same kinda view on this as you do.

  • Hollywood production levels is a bad thing? Lol

  • I do enjoy the show but I much rather prefer the game.

The game remains my first and favorite version of The Walking Dead. I've poked fun at the show, but I still think it has its enjoyable aspects.

It's taken some things in a more interesting direction than the comics anyway; even if it hasn't had the same impact as the characters in Telltale's story.

  • I would agree with you on that all though I not watched it since season 2 mid season break

  • Glitzy and glamorous, but the substance is supported by chopsticks made out of paper mache. The writing is made so that Cletus from Nowhere, Alabama can wrap his teency little brain around it. Where the game (and the comic, sometimes) have ambiguity, the show is made simple by comparison. That's what I mean by ''Holywood production levels''.

  • I think their both about equal

  • The game was the single driving factor that got me to watch the show. I didn't care much for all the hype that surrounded it at first, but then I decided if the game can get me this engaged, what can the show do? The show kept me in for a while, but couldn't hold me as tightly as the game did. I agree the show had been losing its traction for a while, but the season 4 mid-season finale really changed it up and got me back to being excited about the show.

  • I agree with everything you said up until "Cletus from Nowhere, Alabama". Not everyone in the south is a hillbilly. There are stupid people everywhere.

  • No offense meant. Two of my best friends are from the south. It's just that Cletus is a good shorthand to describe a dumb person.

  • I love both of them equally! Stop hating on the TV series!

  • Oh and by the way, the governor died, so the story isn't revolving around him anymore.

  • I'll stop hating on it when it gets better.

  • You're really underestimating the writing which is a problem I have with a lot of fans that bash it. They dont give the show enough credit for being as good as it is. Is it perfect? No, no show is, but its better than a lot of people think.

  • It's not better in the writing department.

  • I found season 2 and 3 really good but I agree season 4 hasn't been that good. Also I found the plot and overall experience of the game better then the show

  • I watch the TV-show mainly to kill time, not because I enjoy it. The game can't be compared to the TV-show. In my opinion the game is 101% better.

  • Stop comparing them and you'll start to enjoy all of them. As a fan of every The Walking Dead media, it is one of the only ways to fully enjoy each mode of the theme of TWD.

Just, watch the show without expecting it to be anything like the game or the comics, then read the comics without expecting it to be anything like the game or the show then do the same with the game. You'll see that you'll start enjoying them much more. I treat the show and the comics as if they were alternative versions of each other and I treat the game as if it was another story set in the same universe, that's all.

  • Thats how I think of it too and I enjoy all three.

  • The show is good. Arguably not as good as is could be, but i think Season 4 has been a big improvement so far. I agree that it's not as good as the game or comics, but that's hardly an insult.

  • O RLY??!!

  • And my opinion is objective law, so sayeth Xenu.

My Response: No. I'm not hating on the show because the game is better than the show. I mean, they're both great(season 1 and the game), but as they progress they run out of things to write about and it gets tedious. Season 2 was okay, season 3 and 4 are repetetive. Same thing, People argue, someone dies, zombies show up and cant get past a fence, In my opinion.

  • I honestly think the show is a little better than the game because it shows more than just 1 or 2 main people it shows the whole group and I can't wait for the second half of the fourth season
