If Ben was a female...

  • I saved Carley because she had a a gun. In my mind, I thought I could toss her the gun, she'd shoot free and while she did that I could run save Doug. Tbh, there's no reason why I couldn't have saved both other than story telling. It had nothing to do with gender. As far as Ben goes, I did everything I could to save him. He was doing what he thought was best and making a deal with the bandits by giving them opiates wasn't a terrible idea. It kept us alive for weeks. I also stuck for him against Kenny all the time. I might've sided with him more if he had been a girl, if Kenny was still treating him so badly. Although if Ben was a chick, I doubt Kenny would have been such a jerk about it all.

Overall, I think Ben was a scared kid. I don't think that would have changed had he been born with ovaries.

  • I wouldn't have been more sympathetic towards him. He's the reason for the loss of four of your group in one episode. I couldn't care less if he was a female or male. He was a complete idiot and a detriment to the group and I would have thrown him over the side of the train if it was an option instead of just a threat. Yes he may have been acting out of fear but he never considered how his actions would affect everyone else in the group. He was being selfish and cowardly and it backfired in the worst possible way.

I picked Carley because she was a developed character. She saves you twice, she goes to the motel with you, you interact with her more and she's a great shot. Doug was just... there. He uses the remote to turn on TVs but that is it. I think pretty much anyone in real life in that situation would have immediately gone to Carley first instinctively because you are given more of a chance to make a connection with her than you are with Doug in the first episode.

  • I remember reading a lot of threads that suggested that Carley was chosen over Doug because she was a female (as well as being better with a gun) [...]

Both Doug and Carley were reasonable, wise and charismatic characters. I ended up choosing Carley though because she's pretty. I like having pretty girls in my group. :3
BTW, that is what the new group is really missing, a pretty and sweet adult girl like Carley or Molly. Right now all we have is Rebecca, but I don't like her - at all. If I had to chose between Doug and Rebecca, then Rebecca would be a goner, trust me. lol :D

This got me thinking about whether people would have liked and have been more sympathetic towards Ben if he was a female character. [...] Also another different point is whether you think other characters would have interacted differently with Ben if he was female.

    Slightly, maybe.

  • I have a feeling that Ben felt isolated from a lot of the group besides Clementine and Lee. Personally I think if he had been female he would have connected better with Christa considering that she was the only female in the group at the time, having more than one friend beside Clementine (and sometimes Lee depending on how you played) might have made him feel less suicidal at Crawford.

Absolutely no fucking difference, at all. I can imagine that rule 63 Ben would get along with Clementine and Molly better, but that's it.

  • I guess it depends. If Ben were female but if she was just as fucking stupid, like that girl who screams non stop that you get to shoot (when you're out with Kenny), then she deserves to die. I think the worst part about Ben was that he lied straight up to your face. I never trusted him because of that.
