Why is Snow so terrible at her job?

edited February 2014 in The Wolf Among Us

Can we blame the destituteness of the Fabletown residents on her? I have not read the comics, so I have no idea who turns out to be what kind of person.

Snow White is an odd character in this game. She can be sweet and nice, even joke a bit (Ep 1) and can turn around and be a mean, dumb, and somewhat selfabsorbed (Ep 2).

Besides my short ignorant dalliance with her character, she seems incompetent at her job. I mean, she must to not help anybody but the rich folk. Why is she even helping bigby on the case anyway? It's not her job and while she's helping Bigby, she's abdicating her job even more!

I wish I knew more about how their world worked. It would make it easier to understand the story and some of the inconsistencies. Were things better under King Cole?

PS. How the hell did Toad get Donkeyskin's coat? She didn't live there or take it with her to the Woodsman's.

  • It's not her fault,it's Crane's.He's affiliated with Bluebeard.Bluebeard actually gets most care, along with the more popular and wealthy fables.Snow can't do things on her own,she just does what Crane tells her,she doesn't have a better choice. It's either that,or...What,prostitution?Crane runs things, and Snow only does as he says. She's just tired of doing that, neglecting other fables, and wants to join Bigby on his investigation to prove herself,to prove she's not the bad guy,you know?

At this point, Snow has no actual power. She's not the deputy mayor, Crane is. It's Crane's fault, and Snow hates the way things are.

FYI, Fabletown's government is composed of the following:

    1) The Mayor, who is largely a figurehead for public occasions. King Cole has held the position since Fabletown was founded.

    2) The Deputy Mayor, who takes care of the running of the government and holds the most power.

    3) The Sheriff, who is responsible for protecting the denizens of Fabletown, keeping their existence secret from the Mundys, enforcing the law, investigating crimes, and "keeping his ear to the streets" through espionage and other means. Bigby's held the role for over a hundred years as of TWAU.

    4) The Assistant to the Deputy Mayor, who is responsible for bookkeeping, administrative duties in the Business Office, and generally being a PA.

In the era of The Wolf Among Us, Crane is the one in charge, and Snow is merely his glorified secretary.

  • Snow is kinda of a PR woman, She goes out and talks some PR BS so the poor fables feel that they matter. When she sees that some turn to prostitution to survive she rethinks her role in it and wishes to change things. After this point she might get angry at Bigby if you don't want to take her with you or treat others badly. She actually says that shes sick of being just a helpless secretary. I really like her character, probably my favorite after Bigby and his sarcastic humor.

  • Man.Is it just me,or does Bigby have a shithole of work to do?I mean,it looks as if he actually works more than the others, but is paid less.<--Bigby's rights police gotta do its work ovah here

  • Okay, thanks. This helps me understand.

  • If things were running correctly, the Deputy Mayor would have at least as much to do as the Sheriff. The Deputy Mayor controls the government, and the Sheriff acts as their enforcer. However, under Crane, it's obvious that the civil side of the government is corrupt, disconnected and lackadaisical.

You're right, though. Bigby has a lot on his plate. He's basically the police force, the CIA, the FBI, and the secret service in one. He has some agents, but the majority of it is all on him, and even his superiors aren't privy to everything he does to protect Fabletown.

  • You really begin to understand things when you listen to Snow's opinion on how the town is being run when Bigby and her are on the way to the Trip Trap. She said things like "we have all the time for people like Bluebeard" (because its Crane's orders) and she also says "if you were to come through the proper channels asking for help.....Id turn you away" (again these are Crane's orders). She also says "Crane doesnt want these disenfrachised people wasting his time". What shes trying to say is that its a broken system. For example when Gren went to Snow for help with Lily's going missing she couldnt do anything (Crane's orders). Another example is when Bigby told Beauty to come to Snow and him for help with money instead of the Crooked Man, she said "I tried" (Crane probably told Snow not to bother with it). Its not Snow or Bigby's fault its Crane not running things well and since its Snow and Bigby walking around town trying to do their jobs that people see them and complain about getting no help. Its out of their control.

  • For whatever reason (Crane's fumbling), Snow is just another inefficient cog in the machine. Attempt at social commentary, I think.

  • her change in character is because of her own quest for independence and justice. She sees now how powerless she was and she just wants to have an active role now, snapping at anyone that wants to stop her from doing so.

  • She already explained in episode 1 why her hands are tied and how she hates it. Try paying attention to the dialogue next time.
